Abstract |
It is assumed that the current cosmic acceleration is driven by a scalar field, the Lagrangian of which is a function of the kinetic term only, and that the luminosity distance is a given function of the red-shift. Upon comparison with baryon acoustic oscillations and cosmic microwave background data the parameters of the models are determined, and then the time evolution of the scalar field is determined by the dynamics using the cosmological equations. We find that the solution is very different than the corresponding solution when the non-relativistic matter is ignored, and that the universe enters the acceleration era at larger red-shift compared to the standard I > CDM model. |

Abstract |
We study the eta'N interaction within a chiral unitary approach which includes pi N, eta N and related pseudoscalar meson-baryon coupled channels. Since the SU(3) singlet does not contribute to the standard interaction and the eta' is mostly a singlet, the resulting scattering amplitude is very small and inconsistent with the experimental scattering length. The additional consideration of vector meson-baryon states into the coupled channel scheme, via normal and anomalous couplings of pseudoscalar to vector mesons, enhances substantially the eta'N amplitude. We also exploit the freedom of adding to the Lagrangian a new term, allowed by the symmetries of QCD, which couples baryons to the singlet meson of SU(3). Adjusting the unknown strength to the eta'N scattering length, we obtain predictions for the elastic eta'N -> eta'N and inelastic eta'N -> eta N, pi N, K Lambda, K Sigma cross sections at low eta' energies, and discuss their significance. |

Abstract |
We study theoretically the formation spectra of deeply bound pionic atoms expected to be observed by experiments with high energy resolution at RIBF/RIKEN, and we discuss in detail the possibilities to extract new information on the pion properties at finite density from the observed spectra, which may provide information on partial restoration of chiral symmetry in medium. We find that the non-yrast pionic states such as 2s are expected to be seen in the (d,(3)He) spectra, which will be helpful to reduce uncertainties of the theoretical calculations in the neutron wave functions in nucleus. The observation of the 2s state with the ground is state is also helpful to reduce the experimental uncertainties associated in the calibration of the absolute excitation energy. We find that the nuclear densities probed by atomic pions are quite stable and almost constant for various atomic states and various nuclei. Effects of the pion wave function renormalization to the formation spectra are also evaluated. |

Abstract |
A search for the Standard Model Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) running at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is reported, based on a total integrated luminosity of up to 40 pb(-1) collected by the ATLAS detector in 2010. Several Higgs boson decay channels: H -> gamma gamma, H -> ZZ(()*()) -> llll, H -> ZZ -> LL nu nu, H -> ZZ -> llqq, H -> WW(()*()) -> l nu l nu and H -> WW -> l nu qq (l is e, mu) are combined in a mass range from 110 GeV to 600 GeV. The highest sensitivity is achieved in the mass range between 160 GeV and 170 GeV, where the expected 95% CL exclusion sensitivity is at Higgs boson production cross sections 2.3 times the Standard Model prediction. Upper limits on the cross section for its production are determined. Models with a fourth generation of heavy leptons and quarks with Standard Model-like couplings to the Higgs boson are also investigated and are excluded at 95% CL for a Higgs boson mass in the range from 140 GeV to 185 GeV. |

Abstract |
We develop a model to evaluate the formation rate of the heavy mesic nuclei in two-nucleon pick-up reactions and apply it to the (6)Li target cases for the formation of heavy meson-alpha bound states, as examples. The existence of the quasideuteron in the target nucleus is assumed in this model. It is found that mesic nuclei formation in recoilless kinematics is possible even for heavier mesons than the nucleon in two-nucleon pick-up reactions. We find the formation rate of the meson-alpha bound states can be around half of the elementary cross sections at the recoilless kinematics with small distortions. |

Abstract |
We report the first observation of the baryonic flavor-changing neutral current decay Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda mu(+)mu(-) with 24 signal events and a statistical significance of 5.8 Gaussian standard deviations. This measurement uses a p (p) over bar collisions data sample corresponding to 6.8 fb(-1) at root s = 1.96 TeV collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron collider. The total and differential branching ratios for Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda mu(+)mu(-) are measured. We find B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda mu(+)mu(-)) = [1.73 +/- 0.42(stat) +/- (syst)] x 10(-6). We also report the first measurement of the differential branching ratio of B(s)(0) -> phi mu(+)mu(-), using 49 signal events. In addition, we report branching ratios for B(+) -> K(+)mu(+)mu(-), B(0) -> K(0)mu(+)mu(-), and B -> K*(892)mu(+)mu(-) decays. |

Abstract |
Two methods are employed to measure the neutrino flux of the antineutrino-mode beam observed by the MiniBooNE detector. The first method compares data to simulated event rates in a high-purity nu(mu)-induced charged-current single pi(+) (CC1 pi(+)) sample while the second exploits the difference between the angular distributions of muons created in nu(mu) and nu(mu) charged-current quasielastic (CCQE) interactions. The results from both analyses indicate the prediction of the neutrino flux component of the predominately antineutrino beam is overestimated-the CC1 pi(+) analysis indicates the predicted nu(mu) flux should be scaled by 0: 76 +/- 0: 11, while the CCQE angular fit yields 0: 65 +/- 0: 23. The energy spectrum of the flux prediction is checked by repeating the analyses in bins of reconstructed neutrino energy, and the results show that the spectral shape is well-modeled. These analyses are a demonstration of techniques for measuring the neutrino contamination of antineutrino beams observed by future nonmagnetized detectors. |

Abstract |
We present searches for rare or forbidden charm decays of the form X(c)(+) -> h(+/-)l(+/-)l((l)+), where X(c)(+) is a charm hadron (D(+), D(s)(+), or A(c)(+)), h +/- is a pion, kaon, or proton, and l((l)+/-) is an electron or muon. The analysis is based on 384 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) annihilation data collected at or close to the gamma(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. No significant signal is observed for any of the 35 decay modes that are investigated. We establish 90% confidence-level upper limits on the branching fractions between 1 x 10(-6) and 44 x 10(-6) depending on the channel. In most cases, these results represent either the first limits or significant improvements on existing limits for the decay modes studied. |

Abstract |
We construct pi pi amplitudes that fulfill exact elastic unitarity, account for one-loop chiral perturbation theory contributions and include all 1/N(C) leading terms, with the only limitation of considering just the lowest-lying nonet of exchanged resonances. Within such a scheme, the N(C) dependence of sigma and rho masses and widths is discussed. Robust conclusions are drawn in the case of the rho resonance, confirming that it is a stable meson in the limit of a large number of QCD colors, N(C). Less definitive conclusions are reached in the scalar-isoscalar sector. With the present quality of data, we cannot firmly conclude whether or not the N(C) = 3 f(0)(600) resonance completely disappears at large N(C) or if it has a subdominant component in its structure, which would become dominant for a number of quark colors sufficiently large. |
