Title Measurement of prompt D+ and Ds+ production in pPb collisions at √s_NN=5.02 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2024 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 01 Issue 1 Pages 070 - 43pp
Keywords Heavy Quark Production; Relativistic Heavy Ion Physics; QCD; Heavy Ion Experiments
Abstract The production of prompt D+ and D-s(+) mesons is studied in proton-lead collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of root s(NN) = 5.02TeV. The data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of (1.58 +/- 0.02)nb(-1) is collected by the LHCb experiment at the LHC. The differential production cross-sections are measured using D+ and D-s(+) candidates with transverse momentum in the range of 0 < p(T) < 14 GeV/c and rapidities in the ranges of 1.5 < y* < 4.0 and -5.0 < y* < -2.5 in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass system. For both particles, the nuclear modification factor and the forward-backward production ratio are determined. These results are compared with theoretical models that include initial-state nuclear effects. In addition, measurements of the cross-section ratios between D+, D-s(+) and D-0 mesons are presented, providing a baseline for studying the charm hadronization in lead-lead collisions at LHC energies.

Title Enhancing resonant circular-section haloscopes for dark matter axion detection: approaches and limitations in volume expansion Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 11 Issue 11 Pages 159 - 30pp
Keywords Axions and ALPs; Particle Nature of Dark Matter
Abstract Haloscopes, microwave resonant cavities utilized in detecting dark matter axions within powerful static magnetic fields, are pivotal in modern astrophysical research. This paper delves into the realm of cylindrical geometries, investigating techniques to augment volume and enhance compatibility with dipole or solenoid magnets. The study explores volume constraints in two categories of haloscope designs: those reliant on single cavities and those employing multicavities. In both categories, strategies to increase the expanse of elongated structures are elucidated. For multicavities, the optimization of space within magnets is explored through 1D configurations. Three subcavity stacking approaches are investigated, while the foray into 2D and 3D geometries lays the groundwork for future topological developments. The results underscore the efficacy of these methods, revealing substantial room for progress in cylindrical haloscope design. Notably, an elongated single cavity design attains a three-order magnitude increase in volume compared to a WC-109 standard waveguide-based single cavity. Diverse prototypes featuring single cavities, 1D, 2D, and 3D multicavities highlight the feasibility of leveraging these geometries to magnify the volume of tangible haloscope implementations.

Title Search for flavour-changing neutral tqH interactions with H → γγ in pp collisions at √s=13 TeV using the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 12 Issue 12 Pages 195 - 53pp
Keywords Flavour Changing Neutral Currents; Hadron-Hadron Scattering; Higgs Physics; Top Physics
Abstract A search for flavour-changing neutral interactions involving the top quark, the Higgs boson and an up-type quark q ( q = c, u) is presented. The proton-proton collision data set used, with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1), was collected at root s = 13TeV by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Both the decay process t -> qH in tt production and the production process pp. tH, with the Higgs boson decaying into two photons, are investigated. No significant excess is observed and upper limits are set on the t. cH and the t. uH branching ratios of 4.3x10(-4) and 3.8x10(-4), respectively, at the 95% confidence level, while the expected limits in the absence of signal are 4.7x10(-4) and 3.9x10(-4). Combining this search with ATLAS searches in the H. t+ t- and H. b <overline> b final states yields observed (expected) upper limits on the t -> cH branching ratio of 5.8 x 10(-4) (3.0 x 10(-4)) at the 95% confidence level. The corresponding observed (expected) upper limit on the t -> uH branching ratio is 4.0 x 10(-4) (2.4 x 10(-4)).

Title Searches for Neutrinos in the Direction of Radio-bright Blazars with the ANTARES Telescope Type Journal Article
Year 2024 Publication Astrophysical Journal Abbreviated Journal Astrophys. J.
  Volume 964 Issue 1 Pages 3 - 13pp
  Keywords
Abstract Active galaxies, especially blazars, are among the most promising extragalactic candidates for high-energy neutrino sources. To date, ANTARES searches included these objects and used GeV-TeV gamma-ray flux to select blazars. Here, a statistically complete blazar sample selected by their bright radio emission is used as the target for searches of origins of neutrinos collected by the ANTARES neutrino telescope over 13 yr of operation. The hypothesis of a neutrino-blazar directional correlation is tested by pair counting and a complementary likelihood-based approach. The resulting posttrial p-value is 3.0% (2.2 sigma in the two-sided convention). Additionally, a time-dependent analysis is performed to search for temporal clustering of neutrino candidates as a means of detecting neutrino flares in blazars. None of the investigated sources alone reaches a significant flare detection level. However, the presence of 18 sources with a pretrial significance above 3 sigma indicates a p = 1.4% (2.5 sigma in the two-sided convention) detection of a time-variable neutrino flux. An a posteriori investigation reveals an intriguing temporal coincidence of neutrino, radio, and gamma-ray flares of the J0242+1101 blazar at a p = 0.5% (2.9 sigma in the two-sided convention) level. Altogether, the results presented here suggest a possible connection of neutrino candidates detected by the ANTARES telescope with radio-bright blazars.

Title Discovering long-lived particles at DUNE Type Journal Article
Year 2024 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 109 Issue 3 Pages 035013 - 24pp
  Keywords
Abstract Long-lived particles (LLPs) arise in many theories beyond the Standard Model. These may be copiously produced from meson decays (or through their mixing with the LLPs) at neutrino facilities and leave a visible decay signal in nearby neutrino detectors. We compute the expected sensitivity of the DUNE liquid argon (LAr) and gaseous argon near detectors (NDs) to light LLP decays. In doing so, we determine the expected backgrounds for both detectors, which have been largely overlooked in the literature, taking into account their angular and energy resolution. We show that searches for LLP decays into muon pairs, or into three pions, would be extremely clean. Conversely, decays into two photons would be affected by large backgrounds from neutrino interactions for both near detectors; finally, the reduced signal efficiency for e thorn e- pairs leads to a reduced sensitivity for ND-LAr. Our results are first presented in a model -independent way, as a function of the mass of the new state and its lifetime. We also provide detailed calculations for several phenomenological models with axionlike particles (coupled to gluons, electroweak bosons, or quark currents). Some of our results may also be of interest for other neutrino facilities using a similar detector technology (e.g., MicroBooNE, SBND, ICARUS, or the T2K near detector).

Abstract We propose a generalized Kim-Shifman-Vainshtein-Zakharov-type axion framework in which colored fermions and scalars act as two -loop Majorana neutrino -mass mediators. The global Peccei-Quinn symmetry under which exotic fermions are charged solves the strong CP problem. Within our general proposal, various setups can be distinguished by probing the axion-to-photon coupling at helioscopes and haloscopes. We also comment on axion dark -matter production in the early Universe.

Title Direct bounds on Left-Right gauge boson masses at LHC Run 2 Type Journal Article
Year 2024 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 02 Issue 2 Pages 027 - 39pp
Keywords Left-Right Models; Grand Unification; New Gauge Interactions
Abstract While the third run of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is ongoing, the underlying theory that extends the Standard Model remains so far unknown. Left-Right Models (LRMs) introduce a new gauge sector, and can restore parity symmetry at high enough energies. If LRMs are indeed realized in nature, the mediators of the new weak force can be searched for in colliders via their direct production. We recast existing experimental limits from the LHC Run 2 and derive generic bounds on the masses of the heavy LRM gauge bosons. As a novelty, we discuss the dependence of the WR and ZR total width on the LRM scalar content, obtaining model-independent bounds within the specific realizations of the LRM scalar sectors analysed here. These bounds avoid the need to detail the spectrum of the scalar sector, and apply in the general case where no discrete symmetry is enforced. Moreover, we emphasize the impact on the WR production at LHC of general textures of the right-handed quark mixing matrix without manifest left-right symmetry. We find that the WR and ZR masses are constrained to lie above 2 TeV and 4 TeV, respectively.

Abstract A model-independent study of CP violation in B-0 -> DK (*0) decays is presented using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of v s = 7, 8 and 13TeV. The CKM angle. is determined by examining the distributions of signal decays in phase-space bins of the self-conjugate D. K(S)(0)h(+) h(-) decays, where h = p, K. Observables related to CP violation are measured and the angle. is determined to be = (49+22 -19). Measurements of the amplitude ratio and strong-phase difference between the favoured and suppressed B-0 decays are also presented.

Keywords Calorimeter methods; Pattern recognition; cluster finding; calibration and fitting methods; Performance of High Energy Physics Detectors
Abstract This paper presents the electron and photon energy calibration obtained with the ATLAS detector using 140 fb-1 of LHC proton -proton collision data recorded at -Js = 13 TeV between 2015 and 2018. Methods for the measurement of electron and photon energies are outlined, along with the current knowledge of the passive material in front of the ATLAS electromagnetic calorimeter. The energy calibration steps are discussed in detail, with emphasis on the improvements introduced in this paper. The absolute energy scale is set using a large sample of Z -boson decays into electron -positron pairs, and its residual dependence on the electron energy is used for the first time to further constrain systematic uncertainties. The achieved calibration uncertainties are typically 0.05% for electrons from resonant Z -boson decays, 0.4% at ET – 10 GeV, and 0.3% at ET – 1 TeV; for photons at ET <^>' 60 GeV, they are 0.2% on average. This is more than twice as precise as the previous calibration. The new energy calibration is validated using .11tfr -, ee and radiative Z -boson decays.

Abstract This letter presents a search for narrow, high-mass resonances in the Zy final state with the Z boson decaying into a pair of electrons or muons. The root s = 13 TeV pp collision data were recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider and have an integrated luminosity of 140 fb-1. The data are found to be in agreement with the Standard Model background expectation. Upper limits are set on the resonance production cross section times the decay branching ratio into Zy. For spin-0 resonances produced via gluon-gluon fusion, the observed limits at 95% confidence level vary between 65.5 fb and 0.6 fb, while for spin-2 resonances produced via gluon-gluon fusion (or quark-antiquark initial states) limits vary between 77.4 (76.1) fb and 0.6 (0.5) fb, for the mass range from 220 GeV to 3400 GeV.
