Abstract |
An observation of the Lambda(0)(b) -> Psi (2S) Lambda(0) decay and a comparison of its branching fraction with that of the Lambda(0)(b) -> Psi (2S) Lambda(0) decay has been made with the ATLAS detector in proton-proton collisions at root s = 8 TeVat the LHC using an integrated luminosity of 20.6fb(-1). The J/Psi and Psi(2S) mesons are reconstructed in their decays to a muon pair, while the Lambda(0) -> p pi(-) decay is exploited for the Lambda(0) 0baryon reconstruction. The Lambda(0)(b) baryons are reconstructed with transverse momentum p(T)> 10 GeVand pseudorapidity vertical bar eta vertical bar < 2.1. The measured branching ratio of the Lambda(0)(b) -> Psi (2S) Lambda(0) and Lambda(0)(b) -> Psi (2S) Lambda(0) decays is Gamma(Lambda(0)(b) -> Psi (2S) Lambda(0)) / Gamma(Lambda(0)(b) -> Psi (2S) Lambda(0)) = 0.501 +/- 0.033(stat) +/- 0.019(syst), lower than the expectation from the covariant quark model. |

Abstract |
The integrated elliptic flow of charged particles produced in Pb+Pb collisions at root S-NN = 2.76 TeV has been measured with the ATLAS detector using data collected at the Large Hadron Collider. The anisotropy parameter, upsilon(2), was measured in the pseudorapidity range |eta| <= 2.5 with the event-plane method. In order to include tracks with very low transverse momentum p(T), thus reducing the uncertainty in upsilon(2) integrated over p(T), a 1 μb(-1) data sample recorded without a magnetic field in the tracking detectors is used. The centrality dependence of the integrated upsilon(2) is compared to other measurements obtained with higher PT thresholds. The integrated elliptic flow is weakly decreasing with |eta|. The integrated upsilon 2 transformed to the rest frame of one of the colliding nuclei is compared to the lower-energy RHIC data. |

Abstract |
Using the ATLAS detector, a centrality-dependent suppression has been observed in the yield of J/psi mesons produced in the collisions of lead ions at the Large Hadron Collider. In a sample of minimum-bias lead-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre of mass energy root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 6.7 μb(-1), J/psi mesons are reconstructed via their decays to mu(+)mu(-) pairs. The measured J/psi yield, normalized to the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions, is found to significantly decrease from peripheral to central collisions. The centrality dependence is found to be qualitatively similar to the trends observed at previous, lower energy experiments. The same sample is used to reconstruct Z bosons in the mu(+)mu(-) final state, and a total of 38 candidates are selected in the mass window of 66 to 116 GeV. The relative Z yields as a function of centrality are also presented, although no conclusion can be inferred about their scaling with the number of binary collisions, because of limited statistics. This analysis provides the first results on J/psi and Z production in lead-lead collisions at the LHC. |

Abstract |
The ATLAS experiment at the LHC has measured the centrality dependence of charged particle pseudorapidity distributions over vertical bar eta vertical bar < 2 in lead-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV. In order to include particles with transverse momentum as low as 30 MeV, the data were recorded with the central solenoid magnet off. Charged particles were reconstructed with two algorithms (2-point “tracklets” and full tracks) using information from the pixel detector only. The lead-lead collision centrality was characterized by the total transverse energy in the forward calorimeter in the range 3.2 < vertical bar eta vertical bar< 4.9. Measurements are presented of the per-event charged particle pseudorapidity distribution, dN(ch)/d eta, and the average charged particle multiplicity in the pseudorapidity interval vertical bar eta vertical bar < 0.5 in several intervals of collision centrality. The results are compared to previous mid-rapidity measurements at the LHC and RHIC. The variation of the mid-rapidity charged particle yield per colliding nucleon pair with the number of participants is consistent with lower root s(NN) results. The shape of the dN(ch)/d eta distribution is found to be independent of centrality within the systematic uncertainties of the measurement. |

Abstract |
The centrality dependence of the mean charged-particle multiplicity as a function of pseudorapidity is measured in approximately 1 μb(-1) of proton-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Charged particles with absolute pseudorapidity less than 2.7 are reconstructed using the ATLAS pixel detector. The p + Pb collision centrality is characterised by the total transverse energy measured in the Pb-going direction of the forward calorimeter. The charged-particle pseudorapidity distributions are found to vary strongly with centrality, with an increasing asymmetry between the proton-going and Pb-going directions as the collisions become more central. Three different estimations of the number of nucleons participating in the p + Pb collision have been carried out using the Glauber model as well as two Glauber-Gribov inspired extensions to the Glauber model. Charged-particle multiplicities per participant pair are found to vary differently for these three models, highlighting the importance of including colour fluctuations in nucleon-nucleon collisions in the modelling of the initial state of p + Pb collisions. |

Abstract |
A measurement of the top-antitop (t (t) over bar) charge asymmetry is presented using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb(-1) of LHC pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector. Events with two charged leptons, at least two jets and large missing transverse momentum are selected. Two observables are studied: A(C)(ll) based on the identified charged leptons, and A(C)(t (t) over bar), based on the reconstructed t (t) over bar final state. The asymmetries are measured to be A(C)(ll) =0.024 +/- 0.015 (stat.) +/- 0.009 (syst.), A(C)(t (t) over bar) = 0.021 +/- 0.025 (stat.) +/- 0.017 (syst.). The measured values are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions. |

Abstract |
A measurement of the top-antitop production charge asymmetry A(C) is presented using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.04 fb(-1) of pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Events are selected with a single lepton (electron or muon), missing transverse momentum and at least four jets of which at least one jet is identified as coming from a b-quark. A kinematic fit is used to reconstruct the t (t) over bar event topology. After background subtraction, a Bayesian unfolding procedure is performed to correct for acceptance and detector effects. The measured value of A(C) is A(C) =-0.019+/-0.028 (stat.)+/-0.024 (syst.), consistent with the prediction from the MC@NLO Monte Carlo generator of A(C) = 0.006+/-0.002. Measurements of AC in two ranges of invariant mass of the top-antitop pair are also shown. |

Abstract |
Correlations between the elliptic or triangular flow coefficients v(m) (m = 2 or 3) and other flow harmonics v(n) (n = 2 to 5) are measured using root S-NN = 2.76 TeV Pb + Pb collision data collected in 2010 by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7 μb(-1). The v(m)-v(n) correlations aremeasured in midrapidity as a function of centrality, and, for events within the same centrality interval, as a function of event ellipticity or triangularity defined in a forward rapidity region. For events within the same centrality interval, v(3) is found to be anticorrelated with v(2) and this anticorrelation is consistent with similar anticorrelations between the corresponding eccentricities, epsilon(2) and epsilon(3). However, it is observed that v(4) increases strongly with v(2), and v(5) increases strongly with both v(2) and v(3). The trend and strength of the v(m) -v(n) correlations for n = 4 and 5 are found to disagree with epsilon(m)-epsilon(n) correlations predicted by initial-geometry models. Instead, these correlations are found to be consistent with the combined effects of a linear contribution to v(n) and a nonlinear term that is a function of v(2)(2) or of v(2)v(3), as predicted by hydrodynamic models. A simple two-component fit is used to separate these two contributions. The extracted linear and nonlinear contributions to v(4) and v(5) are found to be consistent with previously measured event-plane correlations. |

Abstract |
A measurement of the B-s(0) decay parameters in the B-s(0) -> J/psi/phi channel using an integrated luminosity of 14.3 fb(-1) collected by the ATLAS detector from 8TeV pp collisions at the LHC is presented. The measured parameters include the CP-violating phase phi(s), the decay width Gamma(s) and the width di ff erence between the mass eigenstates Delta Gamma(s). The values measured for the physical parameters are statistically combined with those from 4.9 fb-1 of 7TeV data, leading to the following: phi(s) = -0.090 +/- 0.078 (stat.) +/- 0.041 (syst.) rad Delta Gamma s = 0.085 +/- 0.011 (stat.) +/- 0.007 (syst.) ps(-1) Gamma(s) = 0.675 +/- 0.003 (stat.) +/- 0.003 (syst:) ps(-1). In the analysis the parameter Delta Gamma(s) is constrained to be positive. Results for phi(s) and Delta Gamma(s) are also presented as 68% and 95% likelihood contours in the phi(s)-Delta Gamma(s) plane. Also measured in this decay channel are the transversity amplitudes and corresponding strong phases. All measurements are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions. |

Abstract |
A measurement is presented of the cross section for the production of a W boson with one or two jets, of which at least one must be a b-jet, in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV. Production via top decay is not included in the signal definition. The measurement is based on 35 pb(-1) of data collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The W + b-jet cross section is defined for jets reconstructed with the anti-k(t) clustering algorithm with transverse momentum above 25 GeV and rapidity within +/-2.1. The b-jets are identified by reconstructing secondary vertices. The fiducial cross section is measured both for the electron and muon decay channel of the W boson and is found to be 10.2 +/- 1.9(stat) +/- 2.6(syst) pb for one lepton flavour. The results are compared with next-to-leading order QCD calculations, which predict a cross section smaller than, though consistent with, the measured value. |
