Title Bottom-quark mass from finite energy QCD sum rules Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 85 Issue 3 Pages 034003 - 5pp
  Keywords
Abstract Finite energy QCD sum rules involving both inverse-and positive-moment integration kernels are employed to determine the bottom-quark mass. The result obtained in the (MS) over bar scheme at a reference scale of 10 GeV is m (m) over bar (b)(10 GeV) = 3623(9) MeV. This value translates into a scale-invariant mass (m) over bar (b)((m) over bar (b)) = 4171(9) MeV. This result has the lowest total uncertainty of any method, and is less sensitive to a number of systematic uncertainties that affect other QCD sum rule determinations.

Title Search for New Phenomena in t(t)overbar Events with Large Missing Transverse Momentum in Proton-Proton Collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS Detector Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
  Volume 108 Issue 4 Pages 041805 - 18pp
  Keywords
Abstract A search for new phenomena in t (t) over bar events with large missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is presented. The measurement is based on 1: 04 fb(-1) of data collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Contributions to this final state may arise from a number of standard model extensions. The results are interpreted in terms of a model where new top-quark partners are pair produced and each decay to an on-shell top (or antitop) quark and a long-lived undetected neutral particle. The data are found to be consistent with standard model expectations. A limit at 95% confidence level is set excluding a cross section times branching ratio of 1.1 pb for a top-partner mass of 420 GeVand a neutral particle mass less than 10 GeV. In a model of exotic fourth generation quarks, toppartner masses are excluded up to 420 GeV and neutral particle masses up to 140 GeV.

Title KD, eta Ds interaction in finite volume and the Ds*0(2317) resonance Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 85 Issue 1 Pages 014027 - 11pp
  Keywords
Abstract An SU(4) extrapolation of the chiral unitary theory in coupled channels done to study the scalar mesons in the charm sector is extended to produce results in finite volume. The theory in the infinite volume produces dynamically the D-s*0(2317) resonance by means of the coupled channels KD, eta D-s. Energy levels in the finite box are evaluated and, assuming that they would correspond to lattice results, the inverse problem of determining the bound states and phase shifts in the infinite volume from the lattice data is addressed. We observe that it is possible to obtain accurate KD phase shifts and the position of the D-s*0(2317) state, but it requires the explicit consideration of the two coupled channels in the analysis if one goes close to the eta D-s threshold. We also show that the finite volume spectra look rather different in case the D-s*0(2317) is a composite state of the two mesons, or if it corresponds to a non molecular state with a small overlap with the two meson system. We then show that a careful analysis of the finite volume data can shed some light on the nature of the D-s*0(2317) resonance as a KD molecule or otherwise.

Title Gravitino dark matter and neutrino masses with bilinear R-parity violation Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 85 Issue 2 Pages 023523 - 7pp
  Keywords
Abstract Bilinear R-parity violation provides an attractive origin for neutrino masses and mixings. In such schemes the gravitino is a viable decaying dark matter particle whose R-parity violating decays lead to monochromatic photons with rates accessible to astrophysical observations. We determine the parameter region allowed by gamma-ray line searches, dark matter relic abundance, and neutrino oscillation data, obtaining a limit on the gravitino mass m((G) over tilde) less than or similar to 1-10 GeV corresponding to a relatively low reheat temperature T-R less than or similar to few x 10(7)-10(8) GeV. Neutrino mass and mixing parameters may be reconstructed at accelerator experiments like the Large Hadron Collider.

Title Conservative upper limits on WIMP annihilation cross section from Fermi-LAT gamma rays Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 85 Issue 2 Pages 023004 - 9pp
  Keywords
Abstract The spectrum of an isotropic extragalactic gamma-ray background (EGB) has been measured by the Fermi-LAT telescope at high latitudes. Two new models for the EGB are derived from the subtraction of unresolved point sources and extragalactic diffuse processes, which could explain from 30% to 70% of the Fermi-LAT EGB. Within the hypothesis that the two residual EGBs are entirely due to the annihilation of dark matter (DM) particles in the Galactic halo, we obtain stringent upper limits on their annihilation cross section. Severe bounds on a possible Sommerfeld enhancement of the annihilation cross section are set as well. Finally, we consider models for DM annihilation depending on the inverse of the velocity and associate the EGBs to photons arising from the annihilation of DM in primordial halos. Given our choices for the EGB and the minimal DM modeling, the derived upper bounds are claimed to be conservative.

Title Absence of a day-night asymmetry in the Be-7 solar neutrino rate in Borexino Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
  Volume 707 Issue 1 Pages 22-26
Keywords Solar neutrinos; Day-night effect; CPT violation; Neutrino oscillations
Abstract We report the result of a search for a day-night asymmetry in the Be-7 solar neutrino interaction rate in the Borexino detector at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS) in Italy. The measured asymmetry is A(dn) = 0.001 +/- 0.012 (stat) +/- 0.007 (syst), in agreement with the prediction of MSW-LMA solution for neutrino oscillations. This result disfavors MSW oscillations with mixing parameters in the LOW region at more than 8.5 sigma. This region is, for the first time, strongly disfavored without the use of reactor anti-neutrino data and therefore the assumption of CPT symmetry. The result can also be used to constrain some neutrino oscillation scenarios involving new physics.

Title Search for a heavy Standard Model Higgs boson in the channel H -> ZZ -> l(+)l(-) q(q)over-bar using the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
  Volume 707 Issue 1 Pages 27-45
Keywords Standard Model Higgs boson; ATLAS
Abstract A search for a heavy Standard Model Higgs boson decaying via H -> ZZ -> l(+)l(-)q (q) over bar, where l = e, mu, is presented. The search is performed using a data set of pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.04 fb(-1) collected in 2011 by the ATLAS detector at the CERN LHC collider. No significant excess of events above the estimated background is found. Upper limits at 95% confidence level on the production cross section (relative to that expected from the Standard Model) of a Higgs boson with a mass in the range between 200 and 600 GeV are derived. Within this mass range, there is at present insufficient sensitivity to exclude a Standard Model Higgs boson. For a Higgs boson with a mass of 360 GeV, where the sensitivity is maximal, the observed and expected cross section upper limits are factors of 1.7 and 2.7, respectively, larger than the Standard Model prediction.

Title The nucleon axial mass and the MiniBooNE quasielastic neutrino-nucleus scattering problem Type Journal Article

Abstract The charged-current double differential neutrino cross section, measured by the MiniBooNE Collaboration, has been analyzed using a microscopical model that accounts for, among other nuclear effects, long range nuclear (RPA) correlations and multinucleon scattering. We find that MiniBooNE data are fully compatible with the world average of the nucleon axial mass in contrast with several previous analyses which have suggested an anomalously large value. We also discuss the reliability of the algorithm used to estimate the neutrino energy.

Title The reactor mixing angle and CP violation with two texture zeros in the light of T2K Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Nuclear Physics B Abbreviated Journal Nucl. Phys. B
  Volume 857 Issue 3 Pages 411-423

Abstract We reconsider the phenomenological implications of two texture zeros in symmetric neutrino mass matrices in the light of the recent T2K results for the reactor angle and the new global analysis which gives also best fit values for the Dirac CP phase delta. The most important results of the analysis are: Among the viable cases classified by Frampton etal, only A(1) and A(2) predict theta(13) to be different from zero at 3 sigma. Furthermore these two cases are compatible only with a normal mass spectrum in the allowed region for the reactor angle. At the best fit value A(1) and A(2) predict 0.024 >= sin(2)theta(13) >= 0.012 and 0.014 <= sin(2)theta(13) <= 0.032, respectively, where the bounds on the right and the left correspond to cos delta = -1 and cos delta = 1, respectively. The cases B-1, B-2, B-3 and B-4 predict nearly maximal CP violation, i.e. cos delta approximate to 0.

Title Search for anomalous production of prompt like-sign muon pairs and constraints on physics beyond the standard model with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 85 Issue 3 Pages 032004 - 23pp
  Keywords
Abstract An inclusive search for anomalous production of two prompt, isolated muons with the same electric charge is presented. The search is performed in a data sample corresponding to 1.6 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected in 2011 at root s = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Muon pairs are selected by requiring two isolated muons of the same electric charge with p(T) > 20 GeV and vertical bar eta vertical bar < 2.5. Minimal requirements are placed on the rest of the event activity. The distribution of the invariant mass of the muon pair m(mu mu) is found to agree well with the background expectation. Upper limits on the cross section for anomalous production of two muons with the same electric charge are placed as a function of m(mu mu) within a fiducial region defined by the event selection. The fiducial cross-section limit constrains the like-sign top-quark pair-production cross section to be below 3.7 pb at 95% confidence level. The data are also analyzed to search for a narrow like-sign dimuon resonance as predicted for e. g. doubly charged Higgs bosons (H-+/-+/-). Assuming pair production of H-+/-+/- bosons and a branching ratio to muons of 100% (33%), this analysis excludes masses below 355 (244) GeV and 251 (209) GeV for H-+/-+/- bosons coupling to left-handed and right-handed fermions, respectively.
