Title Optimization of the crystal assisted collimation of the SPS beam Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
  Volume 726 Issue 1-3 Pages 182-186
Keywords Accelerator; Beam collimation; Crystal; Channeling
Abstract The possibility for optimization of crystal assisted collimation has been studied at the CERN SPS for stored beams of protons and Pb ions with 270 GeV/c per unit charge. A bent silicon crystal used as a primary collimator deflects halo particles in the channeling regime, directing them into a tungsten absorber. In channeling conditions a strong reduction of off-momentum particle numbers produced in the crystal and absorber, which form collimation leakage, has been observed in the first high dispersion (HD) area downstream. The present study shows that the collimation leakage is minimal for some values of the absorber offset relative to the crystal. The optimal offset value is larger for Pb ions because of their considerably larger ionization losses in the crystal, which cause large increases of particle betatron oscillation amplitudes. The optimal absorber offset allows obtaining maximal efficiency of crystal-assisted collimation.

Title Search for muon neutrinos from gamma-ray bursts with the ANTARES neutrino telescope using 2008 to 2011 data Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Astronomy & Astrophysics Abbreviated Journal Astron. Astrophys.
  Volume 559 Issue Pages A9 - 11pp
Keywords neutrinos; gamma-ray burst: general; methods: numerical
Abstract Aims. We search for muon neutrinos in coincidence with GRBs with the ANTARES neutrino detector using data from the end of 2007 to 2011. Methods. Expected neutrino fluxes were calculated for each burst individually. The most recent numerical calculations of the spectra using the NeuCosmA code were employed, which include Monte Carlo simulations of the full underlying photohadronic interaction processes. The discovery probability for a selection of 296 GRBs in the given period was optimised using an extended maximum-likelihood strategy. Results. No significant excess over background is found in the data, and 90% confidence level upper limits are placed on the total expected flux according to the model.

Title Spatially Dependent Decoherence and Anomalous Diffussion of Quantum Walks Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Journal of Computational and Theoretical Nanoscience Abbreviated Journal J. Comput. Theor. Nanosci.
  Volume 10 Issue 7 Pages 1591-1595
Keywords Decoherence; Quantum Walk; Non-Translational Invariance
Abstract We analyze the long time behavior of a discrete time quantum walk subject to decoherence with a strong spatial dependence, acting on one half of the lattice. We show that, except for limiting cases on the decoherence parameter, the quantum walk at late times behaves sub-ballistically, meaning that the characteristic features of the quantum walk are not completely spoiled. Contrarily to expectations, the asymptotic behavior is non Markovian, and depends on the amount of decoherence. This feature can be clearly shown on the long time value of the Generalized Chiral Distribution (GCD).

Title A Study of Wigner Functions for Discrete-Time Quantum Walks Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Journal of Computational and Theoretical Nanoscience Abbreviated Journal J. Comput. Theor. Nanosci.
  Volume 10 Issue 7 Pages 1626-1633
Keywords Quantum Walk; Wigner Function; Negativity
Abstract We perform a systematic study of the discrete time Quantum Walk on one dimension using Wigner functions, which are generalized to include the chirality (or coin) degree of freedom. In particular, we analyze the evolution of the negative volume in phase space, as a function of time, for different initial states. This negativity can be used to quantify the degree of departure of the system from a classical state. We also relate this quantity to the entanglement between the coin and walker subspaces.

Title Search for Dark Matter Candidates and Large Extra Dimensions in Events with a Photon and Missing Transverse Momentum in pp Collision Data at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS Detector Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
  Volume 110 Issue 1 Pages 011802 - 18pp
  Keywords
Abstract Results of a search for new phenomena in events with an energetic photon and large missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV are reported. Data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb(-1) are used. Good agreement is observed between the data and the standard model predictions. The results are translated into exclusion limits on models with large extra spatial dimensions and on pair production of weakly interacting dark matter candidates.
