Abstract: The decays B-s(0) -> J/psi pi(+)pi-K+K- are studied using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1), collected with the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13TeV. The decays B-s(0) -> J/psi K*(K) over bar *0 and B-s(0) -> chi(c1)(3872)K+K-, where the K+K- pair does not originate from a phi meson, are observed for the first time. Precise measurements of the ratios of branching fractions between intermediate chi(c1)(3872)phi, J/psi K*0 (K) over bar *0, psi(2S)phi and chi(c1)(3872)K+K- states are reported. A structure, denoted as X(4740), is observed in the J/psi phi mass spectrum and, assuming a Breit-Wigner parameterisation, its mass and width are determined to be m(X(4740)) = 4741 +/- 6 +/- 6 MeV/c(2), Gamma(X(4740)) = 53 +/- 15 +/- 11MeV, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. In addition, the most precise single measurement of the mass of the B-s(0) meson is performed and gives a value of m(Bs)(0) = 5366.98 +/- 0.07 +/- 0.13MeV/c(2).

Abstract: Precision measurements in allowed nuclear beta decays and neutron decay are reviewed and analyzed both within the Standard Model and looking for new physics. The analysis incorporates the most recent experimental and theoretical developments. The results are interpreted in terms of Wilson coefficients describing the effective interactions between leptons and nucleons (or quarks) that are responsible for beta decay. New global fits are performed incorporating a comprehensive list of precision measurements in neutron decay, superallowed 0(+)-> 0(+) transitions, and other nuclear decays that include, for the first time, data from mirror beta transitions. The results confirm the V-A character of the interaction and translate into updated values for V-ud and g(A) at the 10(-4) level. We also place new stringent limits on exotic couplings involving left-handed and right-handed neutrinos, which benefit significantly from the inclusion of mirror decays in the analysis.

Abstract: The Cabibbo-suppressed decay Lambda b0</mml:msubsup>-> chi (c1)p(-) is observed for the first time using data from proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb(-1), collected with the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Evidence for the Lambda b0</mml:msubsup>-> chi (c2)p(-) decay is also found. Abstract: This article presents differential measurements of the asymmetry between Lambda(0)(b) and (Lambda) over bar (0)(b) baryon production rates in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of root s = 7 and 8 TeV collected with the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1). The Lambda(0)(b) baryons are reconstructed through the inclusive semileptonic decay Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c) mu(-)(nu) over bar X-mu. The production asymmetry is measured both in intervals of rapidity in the range 2:15 < y < 4:10 and transverse momentum in 2 < p T < 27 GeV/c. The results are found to be incompatible with symmetric production with a significance of 5.8 standard deviations for both root s = 7 and 8 TeV data, assuming no CP violation in the decay. There is evidence for a trend as a function of rapidity with a significance of 4 standard deviations. Comparisons to predictions from hadronisation models in Pythia and heavy-quark recombination are provided. This result constitutes the first observation of a particle-antiparticle asymmetry in b-hadron production at LHC energies.

Abstract: The production cross-sections of J/psi mesons in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 5TeV are measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.13 +/- 0.18 pb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment. The cross-sections are measured differentially as a function of transverse momentum, p(T), and rapidity, y, and separately for J/psi mesons produced promptly and from beauty hadron decays (nonprompt). With the assumption of unpolarised J/psi mesons, the production cross-sections integrated over the kinematic range 0 < p(T) < 20 GeV/c and 2.0 < y < 4.5 are sigma(prompt) J/psi = 8.154 +/- 0.010 +/- 0.283 μb, sigma(nonprompt) J/psi = 0.820 +/- 0.003 +/- 0.034 μb, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These cross-sections are compared with those at root s = 8TeV and 13TeV, and are used to update the measurement of the nuclear modification factor in proton-lead collisions for J/psi mesons at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of root s(NN) = 5TeV. The results are compared with theoretical predictions.

Abstract: The measured branching fractions of B-mesons into leptonic final states derived by the LHCb, Belle and BaBar collaborations hint towards the breakdown of lepton flavour universality. In this work we take at face value the so-called R-D(()*()) observables that are defined as the ratios of neutral B-meson charged-current decays into a D-(*())-meson, a charged lepton and a neutrino final state in the tau and light lepton channels. A well-studied and simple solution to this charged current anomaly is to introduce a scalar leptoquark S-1 that couples to the second and third generation of fermions. We investigate how S-1 can also serve as a mediator between the Standard Model and a dark sector. We study this scenario in detail and estimate the constraints arising from collider searches for leptoquarks, collider searches for missing energy signals, direct detection experiments and the dark matter relic abundance. We stress that the production of a pair of leptoquarks that decays into different final states (i.e. the commonly called “mixed” channels) provides critical information for identifying the underlying dynamics, and we exemplify this by studying the t tau b nu and the resonant S-1 plus missing energy channels. We find that direct detection data provides non-negligible constraints on the leptoquark coupling to the dark sector, which in turn affects the relic abundance. We also show that the correct relic abundance can not only arise via standard freeze-out, but also through conversion-driven freeze-out. We illustrate the rich phenomenology of the model with a few selected benchmark points, providing a broad stroke of the interesting connection between lepton flavour universality violation and dark matter.

Abstract: We study the d(2)Gamma(d)/(d omega d cos theta(d) ), d Gamma(d)/d cos theta(d) and d Gamma(d)/dE(d) distributions, which are defined in terms of the visible energy and polar angle of the charged particle from the tau-decay in b -> C tau (mu(nu) over bar (mu)nu(tau), pi nu(tau), rho nu(tau))(nu) over bar (tau), reactions. These differential decay widths could be measured in the near future with certain precision. The first two contain information on the transverse tau-spin, tau-angular and tau-angular-spin asymmetries of the H-b -> H-c tau(nu) over bar (tau) parent decay and, from a dynamical point of view, they are richer than the commonly used one, d(2)Gamma(d)/(d omega dE(d)), since the latter only depends on the tau longitudinal polarization. We pay attention to the deviations with respect to the predictions of the standard model (SM) for these new observables, considering new physics (NP) operators constructed using both right- and left-handed neutrino fields, within an effective field-theory approach. We present results for Lambda(b) -> Lambda(c)tau (mu(nu) over bar (mu)nu(tau), pi nu(tau), rho nu(tau))(nu) over bar (tau) and (B) over bar -> D-(*()) tau (mu(nu) over bar (mu)nu(tau), pi nu(tau), rho nu(tau))(nu) over bar (tau) sequential decays and discuss their use to disentangle between different NP models. In this respect, we show that d Gamma(d)/d cos theta(d) , which should be measured with sufficiently good statistics, becomes quite useful, especially in the tau -> pi nu(tau) mode. The study carried out in this work could be of special relevance due to the recent LHCb measurement of the lepton flavor universality ratio R Lambda(c) in agreement with the SM. The experiment identified the tau using its hadron decay into pi(-)pi(+)pi(-)nu(tau), and this result for R Lambda(c )which is in conflict with the phenomenology from the b-meson sector, needs confirmation from other tau reconstruction channels.

Abstract: A study of B+ -> J/psi eta K+ decays, followed by J/psi -> mu(+)mu(-) and eta -> gamma gamma, is performed using a dataset collected with the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1). The J/psi eta mass spectrum is investigated for contributions from charmonia and charmonium-like states. Evidence is found for the B+ -> (psi(2)(3823) -> J/psi eta)K+ and B+ -> (psi(4040) -> J/psi eta)K+ decays with significance of 3.4 and 4.7 standard deviations, respectively. This constitutes the first evidence for the psi(2)(3823) -> J/psi eta decay.

Abstract: We present phenomenological results for t (t) over barj + X production at the Large Hadron Collider, of interest for designing forthcoming experimental analyses of this process. We focus on those cases where the t (t) over barj + X process is considered as a signal. We discuss present theoretical uncertainties and the dependence on relevant input parameters entering the computation. For the R. distribution, which depends on the invariant mass of the t (t) over barj-system, we present reference predictions in the on-shell, (MS) over bar and MSR top-quark mass renormalization schemes, applying the latter scheme to this process for the first time. Our conclusions are particularly interesting for those analyses aiming at extracting the topquark mass from cross-section measurements.

Abstract: Coherent production of J/psi mesons is studied in ultraperipheral lead-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5 TeV, using a data sample collected by the LHCb experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 10 μb(-1). The J/psi mesons are reconstructed in the dimuon final state and are required to have transverse momentum below 1 GeV. The cross-section within the rapidity range of 2.0 < y < 4.5 is measured to be 4.45 +/- 0.24 +/- 0.18 +/- 0.58 mb, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third originates from the luminosity determination. The cross-section is also measured in J/psi rapidity intervals. The results are compared to predictions from phenomenological models.
