Abstract: Recently, an improved quenching factor (QF) measurement for low-energy nuclear recoils in CsI[Na] has been reported by the COHERENT Collaboration. The new energy-dependent QF is characterized by a reduced systematic uncertainty and leads to a better agreement between the experimental COHERENT data and the Standard Model (SM) expectation. In this work, we report updated constraints on parameters that describe the process of coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering within and beyond the SM, and we also present how the new QF affects their interpretation.

Abstract: The IRIS group at IFIC Valencia is developing a three-layer Compton camera for treatment monitoring in proton therapy. The system is composed of three detector planes, each made of a LaBr3<i monolithic crystal coupled to a SiPM array. Having obtained successful results with the first prototype (MACACO) that demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed technology, a second prototype (MACACO II) with improved performance has been developed, and is the subject of this work. The new system has an enhanced detector energy resolution which translates into a higher spatial resolution of the telescope. The image reconstruction method has also been improved with an accurate model of the sensitivity matrix. The device has been tested with high energy photons at the National Accelerator Centre (CNA, Seville). The tests involved a proton beam of 18 MeV impinging on a graphite target, to produce 4.4 MeV photons. Data were taken at different system positions of the telescope with the first detector at 65 and 160 mm from the target, and at different beam intensities. The measurements allowed successful reconstruction of the photon emission distribution at two target positions separated by 5 mm in different telescope configurations. This result was obtained both with data recorded in the first and second telescope planes (two interaction events) and, for the first time in beam experiments, with data recorded in the three planes (three interaction events).

Abstract: Pion electro- and photoproduction off the nucleon close to threshold is studied in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory at O(p(3)) in the extended-on-mass-shell scheme, with the explicit inclusion of the Delta(1232) resonance. The relevant low energy constants are fixed by fitting the available experimental data with the theoretical model. The inclusion of the Delta resonance as an explicit degree of freedom substantially improves the agreement with data and the convergence of the model.

Abstract: We attempt to clarify several aspects concerning the recently presented four-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We argue that the limiting procedure outlined in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 124, 081301 (2020)] generally involves ill-defined terms in the four dimensional field equations. Potential ways to circumvent this issue are discussed, alongside remarks regarding specific solutions of the theory. We prove that, although linear perturbations are well behaved around maximally symmetric backgrounds, the equations for second-order perturbations are ill-defined even around a Minkowskian background. Additionally, we perform a detailed analysis of the spherically symmetric solutions and find that the central curvature singularity can be reached within a finite proper time.

Abstract: We analyze the decays of the theoretically predicted lowest bottomonium hybrid H(1P) to open bottom two-meson states. We do it by embedding a quark pair creation model into the Born-Oppenheimer framework which allows for a unified, QCD-motivated description of bottomonium hybrids as well as bottomonium. A new 1P1 decay model for H(1P) comes out. The same analysis applied to bottomonium leads naturally to the well-known 3 P0 decay model. We show that H(1P) and the theoretically predicted bottomonium state Upsilon (5S), whose calculated masses are close to each other, have very different widths for such decays. A comparison with data from Upsilon (10860), an experimental resonance whose mass is similar to that of Upsilon (5S) and H(1P), is carried out. Neither a Upsilon (5S) nor a H(1P) assignment can explain the measured decay widths. However, a Upsilon (5S)-H(1P) mixing may give account of them supporting previous analyses of dipion decays of Upsilon (10860) and suggesting a possible experimental evidence of H(1P).

Abstract: We recall the predictions made ten years ago about a bound state of J(P) = 0(+) in I = 0 of the D*(K) over bar* system, which is manifestly exotic, and we associate it to the X-0(2866) state reported in the recent LHCb experiment. Fine tuning the parameters to reproduce exactly the mass and width of the X-0(2866) state, we report two more states stemming from the same interaction, one with 1(+) and the other with 2(+). For reasons of parity, the 1(+) state cannot be observed in D (K) over bar decay, and we suggest to observe it in the D*(K) over bar spectrum. On the other hand, the 2(+) state can be observed in D (K) over bar decay but the present experiment has too small statistics in the region of its mass to make any claim. We note that measurements of the D*(K) over bar spectrum and of the D (K) over bar with more statistics should bring important information concerning the nature of the X-0(2866) and related ones that could be observed.

Abstract: We review recent progress in the study of the large N-c limit of gauge theories from lattice simulations. The focus is not only the planar limit but also the size of O(N-c(-1)) corrections for values of N-c greater than or similar to 3. Some concrete examples of the topics we include are tests of large- Nc factorization, the topological susceptibility, the glueball, meson and baryon spectra, the chiral dependence of masses and decay constants, and weak matrix elements related to the Delta I = 1/2 rule in kaon decays.

Abstract: The main aim of this work is to present a simple method, based on analytical expressions, for obtaining the temperature increase due to the Joule effect inside the metallic walls of an RF accelerating component. This technique relies on solving the 1-D heat-transfer equation for a thick wall, considering that the heat sources inside the wall are the ohmic losses produced by the RF electromagnetic fields penetrating the metal with finite electrical conductivity. Furthermore, it is discussed how the theoretical expressions of this method can be applied to obtain an approximation to the temperature increase in realistic 3-D RF accelerating structures, taking as an example the cavity of an RF electron photoinjector and a traveling wave linac cavity. These theoretical results have been benchmarked with numerical simulations carried out with commercial finite-element method (FEM) software, finding good agreement among them. Besides, the advantage of the analytical method with respect to the numerical simulations is evidenced. In particular, the model could be very useful during the design and optimization phase of RF accelerating structures, where many different combinations of parameters must be analyzed in order to obtain the proper working point of the device, allowing to save time and speed up the process. However, it must be mentioned that the method described in this article is intended to provide a quick approximation to the temperature increase in the device, which of course is not as accurate as the proper 3-D numerical simulations of the component.

Abstract: We study theoretically the resonant structure of the double Cabibbo suppressed D+ -> K-K+K+ decay. We start from an elementary production diagram, considered subleading in previous approaches, which cannot produce a final K-K+ pair at the tree level but which we show to be able to provide the strength of the decay through final meson-meson state interaction. The different meson-meson elementary productions are related through SU(3), and the final rescattering is implemented from a suitable implementation of unitary extensions of chiral perturbation theory, which generate dynamically the scalar resonances1 f(0)(980) and a(0)(980). We obtain a good agreement with recent experimental data from the LHCb Collaboration with a minimal freedom in the fit and show the dominance of the a(0)(980) contribution close to the threshold of the K-K+ spectrum.

Abstract: The existence of monopoles is a characteristic signature of Kaluza-Klein multidimensional theories. The topology of these solutions is extremely interesting. The existence of a dipole solution, which we have associated to a monopole-anti-monopole bound state, is the leitmotiv of this investigation. The dipole in its lowest energy state, which we here call also monopolium, is electromagnetically inert in free space interacting only gravitationally. Monopolium when interacting with time dependent magnetic fields acquires a time dependent induced magnetic moment and radiates. We have analyzed the most favorable astrophysical scenario for radiative monopolium and found that the amount of radiation is so small that is not detectable by conventional equipments. These findings suggest that Kaluza-Klein monopolium, if existent, would be a candidate for a primordial dark matter constituent.
