Abstract |
A model-dependent amplitude analysis of the decay B (0) -> D(K (S) (0) pi (+) pi (-))K (au 0) is performed using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1), recorded at and 8 TeV by the LHCb experiment. The CP violation observables x (+/-) and y (+/-), sensitive to the CKM angle gamma, are measured to be x- = 0.15 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.03 +/- 0.01; y- = 0.25 +/- 0.15 +/- 0.06 +/- 0.01; x+ = 0.05 +/- 0.24 +/- 0.04 +/- 0.01; y+ = 0.65(-0.23)(+0.24) +/- 0.08 +/- 0.01; where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic and the third arise from the uncertainty on the D -> K (S) (0) pi (+) pi (-) amplitude model. These are the most precise measurements of these observables. They correspond to gamma = (80 (- 22) (+ 21) )A degrees and , where is the magnitude of the ratio of the suppressed and favoured B (0) -> DK (+) pi (-) decay amplitudes, in a K pi mass region of +/- 50 MeV around the K (*)(892)(0) mass and for an absolute value of the cosine of the K (*0) decay angle larger than 0.4. |

Abstract |
The oscillation frequency, Delta m(d), of B-0 mesons is measured using semileptonic decays with a D- or D*(-) meson in the final state. The data sample corresponds to 3.0 fb(-1) of pp collisions, collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies root s = 7 and 8 TeV. A combination of the two decay modes gives Delta m(d) = (505.0 +/- 2.1 +/- 1.0) ns(-1), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This is the most precise single measurement of this parameter. It is consistent with the current world average and has similar precision. |

Abstract |
The Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda phi decay is observed using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) recorded by the LHCb experiment. The decay proceeds at leading order via a b -> s<(s)double over bar>s loop transition and is therefore sensitive to the possible presence of particles beyond the Standard Model. A first observation is reported with a significance of 5.9 standard deviations. The value of the branching fraction is measured to be (5.18 +/- 1.04 +/- 0.35(-0.62)(+0.67)) x 10(-6), where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is related to external inputs. Triple-product asymmetries are measured to be consistent with zero. |

Abstract |
A search for the decays of the B-c(+) meson to p (p) over bar pi(+) is performed for the first time using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. No signal is found and an upper limit, at 95% confidence level, is set, f(c)/f(u) x B(B-c(+) -> p (p) over bar pi(+)) < 3.6 x 10(-8) in the kinematic region m(p<(p)over bar>) < 2.85 GeV/c(2), p(T)(B) < 20 GeV/c and 2.0 < y(B) < 4.5, where B is the branching fraction and f(c)(f(u)) is the fragmentation fraction of the b quark into a B-c+(B+) meson. |

Abstract |
Two-particle angular correlations are studied in proton-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-ofmass energy of root sNN= 5 TeV, collected with the LHCb detector at the LHC. The analysis is based on data recorded in two beam configurations, in which either the direction of the proton or that of the lead ion is analysed. The correlations are measured in the laboratory system as a function of relative pseudorapidity, Delta eta, and relative azimuthal angle, Delta phi, for events in different classes of event activity and for different bins of particle transverse momentum. In high-activity events a long-range correlation on the near side, Delta phi approximate to 0, is observed in the pseudorapidity range 2.0 < eta < 4.9. This measurement of long-range correlations on the near side in proton-lead collisions extends previous observations into the forward region up to eta= 4.9. The correlation increases with growing event activity and is found to be more pronounced in the direction of the lead beam. However, the correlation in the direction of the lead and proton beams are found to be compatible when comparing events with similar absolute activity in the direction analysed. |

Abstract |
We study the chi(c1) -> eta pi(+)pi(-) decay, paying attention to the production of f(0)(500), f(0)(980), and a(0)(980) from the final state interaction of pairs of mesons that can lead to these three mesons in the final state, which is implemented using the chiral unitary approach. Very clean and strong signals are obtained for the a(0)(980) excitation in the eta pi invariant mass distribution and for the f(0)(500) in the pi(+)pi(-) mass distribution. A smaller, but also clear signal for the f(0)(980) excitation is obtained. The results are contrasted with experimental data and the agreement found is good, providing yet one more test in support of the picture where these resonances are dynamically generated from the meson-meson interaction. |

Abstract |
Nuclear reactions where an exotic nucleus captures a neutron are critical for a wide variety of applications, from energy production and national security, to astrophysical processes, and nucleosynthesis. Neutron capture rates are well constrained near stable isotopes where experimental data are available; however, moving far from the valley of stability, uncertainties grow by orders of magnitude. This is due to the complete lack of experimental constraints, as the direct measurement of a neutron-capture reaction on a short-lived nucleus is extremely challenging. Here, we report on the first experimental extraction of a neutron capture reaction rate on Ni-69, a nucleus that is five neutrons away from the last stable isotope of Ni. The implications of this measurement on nucleosynthesis around mass 70 are discussed, and the impact of similar future measurements on the understanding of the origin of the heavy elements in the cosmos is presented. |

Abstract |
We present global fits of an effective field theory description of real, and complex scalar dark matter candidates. We simultaneously take into account all possible dimension 6 operators consisting of dark matter bilinears and gauge invariant combinations of quark and gluon fields. We derive constraints on the free model parameters for both the real (five parameters) and complex (seven) scalar dark matter models obtained by combining Planck data on the cosmic microwave background, direct detection limits from LUX, and indirect detection limits from the Fermi Large Area Telescope. We find that for real scalars indirect dark matter searches disfavour a dark matter particle mass below 100 GeV. For the complex scalar dark matter particle current data have a limited impact due to the presence of operators that lead to p-wave annihilation, and also do not contribute to the spin-independent scattering cross-section. Although current data are not informative enough to strongly constrain the theory parameter space, we demonstrate the power of our formalism to reconstruct the theoretical parameters compatible with an actual dark matter detection, by assuming that the excess of gamma rays observed by the Fermi Large Area Telescope towards the Galactic centre is entirely due to dark matter annihilations. Please note that the excess can very well be due to astrophysical sources such as millisecond pulsars. We find that scalar dark matter interacting via effective field theory operators can in principle explain the Galactic centre excess, but that such interpretation is in strong tension with the non-detection of gamma rays from dwarf galaxies in the real scalar case. In the complex scalar case there is enough freedom to relieve the tension. |

Abstract |
The investigation of beam halo transverse distributions is important for the understanding of beam losses and the control of backgrounds in Future Linear Colliders (FLC). A novel in vacuum diamond sensor (DSv) scanner with four strips has been designed and developed for the investigation of the beam halo transverse distributions and also for the diagnostics of Compton recoil electrons after the interaction point (IP) of ATF2, a low energy (1.3 GeV) prototype of the final focus system for the ILC and CLIC linear collider projects. Using the DSv, a dynamic range of similar to 10(6) has been successfully demonstrated and confirmed for the first time in simultaneous beam core (similar to 10(6) electrons) and beam halo (similar to 10(3) electrons) measurements at ATF2. This report presents the characterization, performance studies and tests of diamond sensors using an a source, as well as using the electron beams at PHIL, a low energy (<5 MeV) photo-injector at LAL, and at ATF2. First beam halo measurement results using the DSv at ATF2 with different beam intensities and vacuum levels are also presented. Such measurements not only allow one to evaluate the different sources of beam halo generation but also to define the requirements for a suitable collimation system to be installed at ATF2, as well as to optimize its performance during future operation. |

Abstract |
In this study effects of a novel high barrier multilayer polyamide film containing dispersed nanoclays (PAN) on the stability of vacuum packed dry-cured ham were investigated during 90 days refrigerated storage in comparison with non-modified multilayer polyamide (PA) and a commercial high barrier film. Characteristic bands of the mineral in FT-IR spectra confirmed the presence of nanoclays in PAN, enhancing oxygen transmission barrier properties and UV protection. Packaging in PAN films did not originate significant changes on colour or lipid oxidation during prolonged storage of vacuum-packed dry-cured ham. Larger oxygen transmission rates in PA films caused changes in CIE b* during refrigerated storage. Ham quality was not affected by light exposition during 90 days and only curing had a significant benefit on colour and TBARS, being cured samples more stable during storage in all the packages used. Packaging of dry-cured ham in PAN was equivalent to commercial high barrier films. |
