Title Observation of the suppressed decay Lambda(0)(b) -> p pi(-) mu(+) mu(-) Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 04 Issue 4 Pages 029 - 16pp
Keywords B physics; Branching fraction; Flavour Changing Neutral Currents; Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments); Rare decay
Abstract The suppressed decay Lambda(0)(b) -> p pi(-) mu(+) mu(-), excluding the J/psi and psi(2S) -> mu(+) mu(-) resonances, is observed for the first time with a significance of 5.5 standard deviations. The analysis is performed with proton- proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1) collected with the LHCb experiment. The Lambda(0)(b) -> p pi(-) mu(+) mu(-) branching fraction is measured relative to the Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi (-> mu(+) mu(-)) p pi(-) branching fraction giving B (Lambda(0)(b) -> p pi(-) mu(+) mu(-))/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi (-> mu(+) mu(-)) p pi(-)) = 0.044 +/- 0.012 +/- 0.007, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This is the first observation of a b -> d transition in a baryonic decay.

Title Measurement of the phase difference between short- and long-distance amplitudes in the B+ -> K+ mu(+) mu(-) decay Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
  Volume 77 Issue 3 Pages 161 - 15pp
  Keywords
Abstract A measurement of the phase difference between the short- and long-distance contributions to the decay is performed by analysing the dimuon mass distribution. The analysis is based on pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 collected by the LHCb experiment in 2011 and 2012. The long-distance contribution to the decay is modelled as a sum of relativistic Breit-Wigner amplitudes representing different vector meson resonances decaying to muon pairs, each with their own magnitude and phase. The measured phases of the and resonances are such that the interference with the short-distance component in dimuon mass regions far from their pole masses is small. In addition, constraints are placed on the Wilson coefficients, and , and the branching fraction of the short-distance component is measured.

Title Measurement of forward t(t)over-bar, W + b(b)over-bar and W+ c(c)over-bar production in ppc ollisions at root s=8 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
  Volume 767 Issue Pages 110-120
  Keywords
Abstract The production of t (t) over bar, W + b (b) over bar and W+ c (c) over bar is studied in the forward region of proton-proton collisions collected at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.98 +/- 0.02 fb(-1). The Wbosons are reconstructed in the decays W -> lv, where l denotes muon or electron, while the b and cquarks are reconstructed as jets. All measured cross-sections are in agreement with next-to-leading-order Standard Model predictions.

Title First Experimental Study of Photon Polarization in Radiative B-s(0) Decays Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
  Volume 118 Issue 2 Pages 021801 - 9pp
  Keywords
Abstract The polarization of photons produced in radiative B-s(0) decays is studied for the first time. The data are recorded by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1) at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. A time-dependent analysis of the B-s(0) ->phi gamma decay rate is conducted to determine the parameter A(Delta), which is related to the ratio of right-over left-handed photon polarization amplitudes in b -> s gamma transitions. A value of A(Delta) = -0.98(-0.52)(-0.20)(+0.46)(+0.23) is measured. This result is consistent with the standard model prediction within 2 standard deviations.

Title First study of the CP-violating phase and decay-width difference in B-s(0) -> psi(2S)phi decays Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
  Volume 762 Issue Pages 253-262
  Keywords
Abstract A time-dependent angular analysis of B-s(0) -> psi(2S)phi decays is performed using data recorded by the LHCb experiment. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.0fb(-1) collected during Run 1 of the LHC. The CP-violating phase and decay-width difference of the B-s(0) system are measured to be phi(s)=0.23(-0.28)(+0.29)+/- 0.02rad and Delta Gamma(s)=0.066(-0.044)(+0.041)+/- 0.007ps(-1), respectively, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This is the first time that phi s and Delta Gamma s have been measured in a decay containing the psi(2S) resonance.

Title Measurement of CP Violation in B-0 -> D+D- Decays Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
  Volume 117 Issue 26 Pages 261801 - 10pp
  Keywords
Abstract The CP violation observables S and C in the decay channel B-0 -> D+D- are determined from a sample of proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, collected by the LHCb experiment and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1). The observable S describes CP violation in the interference between mixing and the decay amplitude, and C parametrizes direct CP violation in the decay. The following values are obtained from a flavor-tagged, decay-time-dependent analysis: S = -0.54(-0.16)(+0.17) (stat) +/- 0.05(syst) ,C=0.26(-0.17)(+0.18) (stat) +/- 0.02(syst). These values provide evidence for CP violation at a significance level of 4.0 standard deviations. The phase shift due to higher-order standard model corrections is constrained to a small value of Delta phi = -0.16(-0.21)(+0.19) rad.

Abstract A study of B-c(+) -> K+K-pi(+) decays is performed for the first time using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. Evidence for the decay B-c(+) -> chi(c0)(K+K-)pi(+) is reported with a significance of 4.0 standard deviations, giving sigma(B-c(+))/sigma(B+) x B(B-c(+) -> chi(c0)pi+) = (9.8(-3.0)(+3.4)(stat) +/- 0.8(stat)) x 10(-6). Here B denotes a branching fraction while sigma(B-c(+)) and sigma(B+) are the production cross sections for B-c(+) and B+ mesons. An indication of (b) over barc weak annihilation is found for the region m(K-pi(+)) < 1.834 GeV/c(2), with a significance of 2.4 standard deviations.

Title Measurement of CP asymmetry in D-0 -> K- K+ decays Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
  Volume 767 Issue Pages 177-187
  Keywords
Abstract A measurement of the time-integrated CP asymmetry in the Cabibbo-suppressed decay D-0 -> K- K+ is performed using pp collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1), collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The flavour of the charm meson at production is determined from the charge of the pion in D*(+) -> D-0 pi(+) and D*(-) -> (D) over bar (0)pi(-) decays. The time-integrated CP asymmetry A(CP)(K- K+) is obtained assuming negligible CP violation in charm mixing and in Cabibbo-favoured D-0 -> K- pi(+), D+ -> K- pi(+) pi(+) and D+ -> (K) over bar (0)pi(+) decays used as calibration channels. It is found to be A(CP)(K- K+) = (0.14 +/- 0.15 (stat) +/- 0.10 (syst))%. A combination of this result with previous LHCb measurements yields A(CP)(K- K+) = (0.04 +/- 0.12 (stat) +/- 0.10 (syst))%, A(CP)(pi(-) pi(+)) = (0.07 +/- 0.14 (stat) +/- 0.11 (syst))%. These are the most precise measurements from a single experiment. The result for ACP(K- K+) is the most precise determination of a time-integrated CPasymmetry in the charm sector to date, and neither measurement shows evidence of CP asymmetry.

Abstract Using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb, collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, a new narrow charmonium state, the X(3842) resonance, is observed in the decay modes X(3842) ! D0 D 0 and X(3842) ! D+D. The mass and the natural width of this state are measured to be where the fi rst uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The observed mass and narrow natural width suggest the interpretation of the new state as the unobserved spin-3 3 1 3 D 3 charmonium state. In addition, prompt hadroproduction of the (3770) and 2 (3930) states is observed for the fi rst time, and the parameters of these states are measured to be m (3770) = 3778 : 1 0 : 7 0 : 6MeV where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

  Abstract The B0 K0K0 and B0 s K0K0 decays are studied using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb. An untagged and timeintegrated amplitude analysis of B0 (s) (K+)(K) decays in two-body invariant mass regions of 150MeV/c2 around the K0 mass is performed. A stronger longitudinal polarisation fraction in the B0 K0K0 decay, fL = 0 : 724 0 : 051 (stat) 0 : 016 (syst), is observed as compared to fL = 0 : 240 0 : 031 (stat) 0 : 025 (syst) in the B0 s K0K0 decay. The ratio of branching fractions of the two decays is measured and used to determine B (B0 K0K0) = (8 : 0 0 : 9 (stat) 0 : 4 (syst)) x 10(-7).
