Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
The Dalitz plot analysis technique is used to study the resonant substructures of B- -> D+pi(-)pi(-) decays in a data sample corresponding to 3.0 fb(-1) of pp collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment during 2011 and 2012. A model-independent analysis of the angular moments demonstrates the presence of resonances with spins 1, 2 and 3 at high D+pi(-) mass. The data are fitted with an amplitude model composed of a quasi-model-independent function to describe the D+pi(-) S wave together with virtual contributions from the D*(2007)(0) and B*(0) states, and components corresponding to the D-2*(2460)(0), D-1*(2680)(0), D-3*(2760)(0) and D-2*(3000)(0) resonances. The masses and widths of these resonances are determined together with the branching fractions for their production in B- -> D+pi(-)pi(-) decays. The D+pi(-) S wave has phase motion consistent with that expected due to the presence of the D-0*(2400)(0) state. These results constitute the first observations of the D-3*(2760)(0) and D-2*(3000)(0) resonances, with significances of 10 sigma and 6.6 sigma, respectively. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
The Dalitz plot distribution of B-0 -> (D) over bar K-0(+)pi(-) decays is studied using a data sample corresponding to 3.0 fb(-1) of pp collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment during 2011 and 2012. The data are described by an amplitude model that contains contributions from intermediate K* (892)(0), K*(1410)(0), K-2*(1430)(0) and D-2(*)(2460)(-) resonances. The model also contains components to describe broad structures, including the K-0(*)(1430)(0) and D-0(*)(2400)(-) resonances, in the K pi S-wave and the D pi S-and P-waves. The masses and widths of the D-0*(2400)(-) and D-2(*)(2460)(-) resonances are measured, as are the complex amplitudes and fit fractions for all components included in the amplitude model. The model obtained will be an integral part of a future determination of the angle gamma of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix using B-0 -> DK+pi(-) decays. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
The data sample of Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi pK(-) decays acquired with the LHCb detector from 7 and 8 TeV pp collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1), is inspected for the presence of J/psi p or J/psi K- contributions with minimal assumptions about K(-)p contributions. It is demonstrated at more than nine standard deviations that Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi pK(-) decays cannot be described with K- p contributions alone, and that J/psi K- contributions play a dominant role in this incompatibility. These model-independent results support the previously obtained model-dependent evidence for P-c(+)-> J/psi p charmonium-pentaquark states in the same data sample. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
The decay (B) over bar (0)(s) -> psi(2S)K+pi(-) is observed using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The branching fraction relative to the B-0 -> psi(2S)K+pi(-) decay mode is measured to be B((B) over bar (0)(s) -> psi(2S)K+pi(-))/B(B-0 -> psi(2S)K+pi(-)) = 5.38 +/- 0.36 (stat) +/- 0.22 (syst) +/- 0.31 (f(s)/f(d)) %, where f(s)/f(d) indicates the uncertainty due to the ratio of probabilities for a b quark to hadronise into a B-s(0) or B-0 meson. Using an amplitude analysis, the fraction of decays proceeding via an intermediate K*(892)(0) meson is measured to be 0.645 +/- 0.049 (stat) +/- 0.049 (syst) and its longitudinal polarisation fraction is 0.524 +/- 0.056 (stat) +/- 0.029 (syst). The relative branching fraction for this component is determined to be B((B) over bar (0)(s) -> psi(2S)K*(892)(0))/B(B-0 -> psi(2S)K*(892)(0)) = 5.58 +/- 0.57 (stat) +/- 0.40 (syst) +/- 0.32 (f(s)/f(d)) %. In addition, the mass splitting between the B-s(0) and B-0 mesons is measured as M(B-s(0)) – M(B-0) = 87.45 +/- 0.44 (stat) +/- 0.09 (syst) MeV/c(2). |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
The decay B- -> Lambda(+)(c)(Lambda) over bar K--(c)- is studied in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of root s = 13 TeV using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment. In the Lambda K-+(c)- system, the Xi(c)(2930)(0) state observed at the BABAR and Belle experiments is resolved into two narrower states, Xi(c)(2923)(0) and Xi(c)(2939)(0), whose masses and widths are measured to be m(Xi(c)(2930)(0) = 2924.5 +/- 0.4 +/- 1.1 Mev, m Xi(c)(2930)(0)) = 2938.5 +/- 0.9 +/- 2.3 Mev, Gamma(Xi(c)(2930)(0)) = 4.8 +/- 0.9 +/- 1.5 MeV, Gamma(Xi(c)(2930)(0) – 11.0 +/- 1.9 +/- 7.5 MeV, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The results are consistent with a previous LHCb measurement using a prompt Lambda K-+(c)- sample. Evidence of a new Xi(c)(2930)(0) state is found with a local significance of 3.8 sigma, whose mass and width are measured to be 2881.8 +/- 3.1 +/- 8.5 MeV and 12.4 +/- 5.3 +/- 5.8 MeV, respectively. In addition, evidence of a new decay mode Xi(c)(2930)(0) -> Lambda K-+(c) is found with a significance of 3.7 sigma. The relative branching fraction of B- -> Lambda(+)(c)(Lambda) over bar K--(c)- with respect to the B- -> D+D-K- decay is measured to be 2.36 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.22 +/- 0.25, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third originates from the branching fractions of charm hadron decays. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
The decay B-0 -> psi(2S)K+pi(-) is analyzed using 3 fb(-1) of pp collision data collected with the LHCb detector. A model-independent description of the psi(2S)pi mass spectrum is obtained, using as input the K pi mass spectrum and angular distribution derived directly from data, without requiring a theoretical description of resonance shapes or their interference. The hypothesis that the psi(2S)pi mass spectrum can be described in terms of K pi reflections alone is rejected with more than 8 sigma significance. This provides confirmation, in a model-independent way, of the need for an additional resonant component in the mass region of the Z(4430)(-) exotic state. |

The decay E-b -> A0bx-- is observed using a proton-proton collision data sample collected at center-of-ffiffimass energy p s 1/4 13 TeV with the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.5 fb-1. This process is mediated by the s -> uu over bar d quark-level transition, where the b quark in the E-b baryon is a spectator in the decay. Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
The decay Lambda(0)(b) -> eta(c) (1S)pK(- )is observed for the first time using a data sample of proton-proton collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.5 fb I, collected with the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The branching fraction of the decay is measured, using the Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi pK(-) decay as a normalization mode, to be B(Lambda(0)(b) -> eta(c) (1S)pK(-)) = (1.06 +/- 0.16 +/- 0.06(-019)(+0.22)) x 10(-4), where the quoted uncertainties are statistical, systematic and due to external inputs, respectively. A study of the eta(c)(1S)p mass spectrum is performed to search for the P-c(4312)(+) pentaquark state. No evidence is B(Lambda(0)(b) -> P-c(4312)K-+(-))xB(P-c(4312)(+)-> eta(c)(1S)p)/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> eta(c) (1S)pK(-)) < 0.24( ) observed and an upper limit of < 0.24 is obtained at the 95% confidence level. |

The ratio of branching fractions between Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)p (p) over bar pi(-) and Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)pi(-) decays is measured to be B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)p (p) over bar pi(-))/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)pi(-) = 0.0540 +/- 0.0023 +/- 0.0032. Two resonant structures are observed in the Lambda(+)(c)pi(-) mass spectrum of the Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)pp pi(-) decays, corresponding to the Xc(2455) and X (2520) states. The ratios of branching fractions with respect to the decay Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)p (p) over bar pi(-) are B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Sigma(0)(c)p (p) over bar x B(Sigma(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)pi(-))/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)p (p) over bar pi(-)) = 0.089 +/- 0.015 +/- 0.006, B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Sigma(c)*(0)p (p) over bar x B(Sigma(c)*(0) -> Lambda(+)(c)pi(-))/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)p (p) over bar pi(-)) = 0.119 +/- 0.020 +/- 0.014. In all of the above results, the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The phase space is also examined for the presence of dibaryon resonances. No evidence for such resonances is found. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
The decay of the narrow resonance (B) over bar (s2)*(0 )-> B(-)K(+)can be used to determine the B- momentum in partially reconstructed decays without any assumptions on the decay products of the r meson. This technique is employed for the first time to distinguish contributions from D-0, D*(0), and higher-mass charmed states (D(0)) in semileptonic B- decays by using the missing-mass distribution. The measurement is performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) collected with the LHCb detector in pp collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The resulting branching fractions relative to the inclusive B- -> (DX)-X-0 mu(-)(nu) over bar (mu )are f(D)(0)= B(B- -> D-0 mu(-)(nu) over bar mu/B(B- ->(DX)-D- -X-0 mu(-)(nu) over bar (mu))( )= 0.25( )+/- 0.06, f( D)(0 )= B(B- -> (D(0) -> (DX)-X-0)mu(-)(nu) over bar (mu))/B(B--> (DX)-X-0 mu(-)(nu) over bar (mu)) = 0.21 +/- 0.07, with f(D)*(0) = 1 – f(D)(0) – f(D)(0) making up the remainder. |
