Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We propose a generic recipe for deforming extremal black holes into nonextremal black holes and we use it to find and study the static non-extremal black-hole solutions of several N = 2, d = 4 supergravity models (SL(2, R)/U(1), (CP) over bar (n) and STU with four charges). In all the cases considered, the non-extremal family of solutions smoothly interpolates between all the different extremal limits, supersymmetric and not supersymmetric. This fact can be used to explicitly find extremal non-supersymmetric solutions also in the cases in which the attractor mechanism does not completely fix the values of the scalars on the event horizon and they still depend on the boundary conditions at spatial infinity. We compare (supersymmetry) Bogomol'nyi bounds with extremality bounds, we find the first-order flow equations for the non-extremal solutions and the corresponding superpotential, which gives in the different extremal limits different superpotentials for extremal black holes. We also compute the entropies (areas) of the inner (Cauchy) and outer (event) horizons, finding in all cases that their product gives the square of the moduli-independent entropy of the extremal solution with the same electric and magnetic charges. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We propose a realization of the so-called bimodal/schizophrenic model proposed recently. We assume 54, the permutation group of four objects as flavor symmetry giving tri-bimaximal lepton mixing at leading order. In these models the second massive neutrino state is assumed quasi-Dirac and the remaining neutrinos are Majorana states. In the case of inverse mass hierarchy, the lower bound on the neutrinoless double beta decay parameter m(ee) is about two times that of the usual lower bound, within the range of sensitivity of the next generation of experiments. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We propose superfield equations in tensorial N-extended superspaces to describe the N = 2,4,8 supersymmetric generalizations of free conformal higher spin theories. These can be obtained by quantizing a superparticle model in N-extended tensorial superspace. The N-extended higher spin supermultiplets just contain scalar and 'spinor' fields in tensorial space so that, in contrast with the standard (super)space approach, no nontrivial generalizations of the Maxwell or Einstein equations to tensorial space appear when N > 2. For N = 4,8, the higher spin-tensorial components of the extended tensorial superfields are expressed through additional scalar and spinor fields in tensorial space which obey the same free higher spin equations, but that are axion-like in the sense that they possess Peccei-Quinn-like symmetries. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We reconsider the possibility that Majorana masses for the three known neutrinos are generated radiatively by the presence of a fourth generation and one right-handed neutrino with Yukawa couplings and a Majorana mass term. We find that the observed light neutrino mass hierarchy is not compatible with low energy universality bounds in this minimal scenario, but all present data can be accommodated with five generations and two right-handed neutrinos. Within this framework, we explore the parameter space regions which are currently allowed and could lead to observable effects in neutrinoless double beta decay, mu-e conversion in nuclei and μ-> e gamma experiments. We also discuss the detection prospects at LHC. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We reconstruct the rare decays B+ -> K+ mu(+)mu(-), B-0 -> K*(892)(0) mu(+)mu(-), and B-s(0) -> phi(1020) mu(+)mu(-) in a data sample corresponding to 4.4 fb(-1) collected in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron Collider. Using 121 +/- 16 B+ -> K+ mu(+)mu(-) and 101 +/- 12 B-0 -> K-*0 mu(+)mu(-) decays we report the branching ratios. In addition, we report the differential branching ratio and the muon forwardbackward asymmetry in the B+ and B-0 decay modes, and the K-*0 longitudinal polarization fraction in the B-0 decay mode with respect to the squared dimuon mass. These are consistent with the predictions, and most recent determinations from other experiments and of comparable accuracy. We also report the first observation of the B-s(0) -> phi mu(+)mu(-) decay and measure its branching ratio BR(B-s(0) -> phi mu(+)mu(-)) = [1.44 +/- 0.33 +/- 0.46] x 10(-6) using 27 +/- 6 signal events. This is currently the most rare B-s(0) decay observed. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We report a measurement of inclusive charged current interactions of muon neutrinos on carbon with an average energy of 0.8 GeV using the Fermilab Booster Neutrino Beam. We compare our measurement with two neutrino interaction simulations: NEUT and NUANCE. The charged current interaction rates (product of flux and cross section) are extracted by fitting the muon kinematics, with a precision of 6%-15% for the energy dependent and 3% for the energy integrated analyses. We also extract charged current inclusive interaction cross sections from the observed rates, with a precision of 10%-30% for the energy dependent and 8% for the energy integrated analyses. This is the first measurement of the charged current inclusive cross section on carbon around 1 GeV. These results can be used to convert previous SciBooNE cross-section ratio measurements to absolute cross-section values. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We report an analysis of charmless hadronic decays of charged B mesons to the final state K(+) pi(0)pi(0), using a data sample of (470.9 +/- 2.8) x 10(6) B (B) over bar events collected with the BABAR detector at the Y(4S) resonance. We observe an excess of signal events, with a significance above 10 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties, and measure the branching fraction and CP asymmetry to be B(B(+) -> K(+) pi(0)pi(0)) = (16.2 +/- 1.2 +/- 1.5) x 10(-6) and A(CP)(B(+) -> K(+) pi(0)pi(0)) = -0.06 +/- 0.06 +/- 0.04, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Additionally, we study the contributions of the B(+) -> K*(892)(+) pi(0), B(+) -> f(0)(980)K(+), and B(+) -> chi(c0)K(+) quasi-two-body decays. We report the world's best measurements of the branching fraction and CP asymmetry of the B(+) -> K(+) pi(0)pi(0) and B(+) -> K(+)(892)(+) pi(0) channels. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We report on a measurement of b-hadron lifetimes in the fully reconstructed decay modes B+-> J/psi K+, B-0 -> J/psi K*(892)(0), B-0 -> J/psi K-s(0), and Lambda(0)(b)-> J/psi Lambda(0) using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.3 fb(-1), collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The measured lifetimes are tau(B+)=[1.639 +/- 0.009(stat)+/- 0.009(syst)]ps, tau(B-0)=[1.507 +/- 0.010(stat)+/- 0.008(syst)]ps, and tau(Lambda(0)(b))=[1.537 +/- 0.045(stat)+/- 0.014(syst)]ps. The lifetime ratios are tau(B+)/tau(B-0)=[1.088 +/- 0.009(stat)+/- 0.004(syst)] and tau(Lambda(0)(b))/tau(B-0)=[1.020 +/- 0.030(stat)+/- 0.008(syst)]. These are the most precise determinations of these quantities from a single experiment. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We report on a search for CP violation in the decay D-+/- -> K-S(0)pi(+/-) using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 469 fb(-1) collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric energy e(+)e(-) storage rings. The CP- violating decay rate asymmetry A(CP) is determined to be (-0.44 +/- 0: 13(stat) +/- 0.10(syst))%, consistent with zero at 2.7 sigma and with the standard model prediction of (-0.332 +/- 0.006)%. This is currently the most precise measurement of this parameter. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We report on a theoretical study of the pp -> p Lambda K(+) and pp -> p Sigma(0)K(+) reactions near threshold using a chiral dynamical approach. The production process is described by single-pion and single-kaon exchange. The final state interactions of nucleon-hyperon, K-hyperon, and K-nucleon systems are also taken into account. We show that our model leads to a fair description of the experimental data on the total cross section of the pp -> p Lambda K(+) and pp -> p Sigma(0)K(+) reactions. We find that the experimental observed strong suppression of Sigma(0) production compared to Lambda production at the same excess energy can be explained. However, ignorance of phases between some amplitudes does not allow one to properly account for the nucleon-hyperon final state interaction for the pp -> p Sigma(0)K(+) reaction. We also demonstrate that the invariant mass distribution and the Dalitz plot provide direct information about the Lambda and Sigma(0) production mechanisms and may be tested by experiments at COSY or HIRFL-CSR. |
