Title A theory for scotogenic dark matter stabilised by residual gauge symmetry Type Journal Article
Year 2020 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
  Volume 802 Issue Pages 135254 - 10pp
  Keywords
Abstract (up) Dark matter stability can result from a residual matter-parity symmetry, following naturally from the spontaneous breaking of the gauge symmetry. Here we explore this idea in the context of the SU(3)(c) circle times SU(3)L circle times U(1)(x) circle times U(1)(N) electroweak extension of the standard model. The key feature of our new scotogenic dark matter theory is the use of a triplet scalar boson with anti-symmetric Yukawa couplings. This naturally implies that one of the light neutrinos is massless and, as a result, there is a lower bound for the O nu beta beta decay rate.

Abstract (up) Decays of B-s(0) and (B) over bar (0)(s) mesons into J/psi pi(+)pi(-) final states are studied in a data sample corresponding to 1.9 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected with the LHCb detector in 13 TeV pp collisions. A time-dependent amplitude analysis is used to determine the final-state resonance contributions, the CP-violating phase phi(s) = -0.057 +/- 0.060 +/- 0.011 rad, the decay-width difference between the heavier mass B-s(0) eigenstate and the B-0 meson of -0.050 +/- 0.004 +/- 0.004 ps(-1), and the CP-violating parameter vertical bar lambda vertical bar = 1.01(-0.06)(+0.08) +/- 0.03, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. These results are combined with previous LHCb measurements in the same decay channel using 7 TeV and 8 TeV pp collisions obtaining phi(s) = 0.002 +/- 0.044 +/- 0.012 rad, and vertical bar lambda vertical bar = 0.949 +/- 0.036 +/- 0.019.

Title Observation of nuclear dechanneling length reduction for high energy protons in a short bent crystal Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
  Volume 743 Issue Pages 440-443
  Keywords Crystal; Channeling; Beam; Deflection
Abstract (up) Deflection of 400 GeV/c protons by a short bent silicon crystal was studied at the CERN SPS. It was shown that the dechanneling probability increases while the dechanneling length decreases with an increase of incident angles of particles relative to the crystal planes. The observation of the dechanneling length reduction provides evidence of the particle population increase at the top levels of transverse energies in the potential well of the planar channels.   Title Search for quark contact interactions in dijet angular distributions in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV measured with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2011 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
  Volume 694 Issue 4-5 Pages 327-345
Keywords ATLAS; LHC; 7 TeV; Dijets angular distributions; Quark compositeness; Contact interactions
Abstract (up) Dijet angular distributions from the first LHC pp collisions at center-of-mass energy root s = 7 TeV have been measured with the ATLAS detector. The dataset used for this analysis represents an integrated luminosity of 3.1 pb(-1). Dijet chi distributions and centrality ratios have been measured up to dijet masses of 2.8 TeV, and found to be in good agreement with Standard Model predictions. Analysis of the chi distributions excludes quark contact interactions with a compositeness scale Lambda below 3.4 TeV, at 95% confidence level, significantly exceeding previous limits.

Title Beyond the dark matter effective field theory and a simplified model approach at colliders Type Journal Article

  Volume 756 Issue Pages 289-294

Abstract (up) Direct detection of and LHC search for the singlet fermion dark matter (SFDM) model with Higgs portal interaction are considered in a renormalizable model where the full Standard Model (SM) gauge symmetry is imposed by introducing a singlet scalar messenger. In this model, direct detection is described by an effective operator m(q)(q) over barq (chi) over bar chi as usual, but the full amplitude for monojet + is not an element of(T) involves two intermediate scalar propagators, which cannot be seen within the effective field theory (EFT) or in the simplified model without the full SM gauge symmetry. We derive the collider bounds from the ATLAS monojet + is not an element of(T) as well as the CMS t (t) over bar + is not an element of(T) data, finding out that the bounds and the interpretation of the results are completely different from those obtained within the EFT or simplified models. It is pointed out that it is important to respect unitarity, renormalizability and local gauge invariance of the SM.

Abstract (up) Electric quadrupole matrix elements, M-p, for the J(pi) = 2(+) -> 0(+), Delta T = 0, T = 1 transitions across the A = 46 isobaric multiplet Cr-46-V-46-Ti-46 have been measured at GSI with the FRS-LYCCA-AGATA setup. This allows direct insight into the isospin purity of the states of interest by testing the linearity of M-p with respect to T-z. Pairs of nuclei in the T = 1 triplet were studied using identical reaction mechanisms in order to control systematic errors. The M-p values were obtained with two different methodologies: (i) a relativistic Coulomb excitation experiment was performed for Cr-46 and Ti-46; (ii) a “stretched target” technique was adopted here, for the first time, for lifetime measurements in V-46 and Ti-46. A constant value of M-p across the triplet has been observed. Shell-model calculations performed within the fp shell fail to reproduce this unexpected trend, pointing towards the need of a wider valence space. This result is confirmed by the good agreement with experimental data achieved with an interaction which allows excitations from the underlying sd shell. A test of the linearity rule for all published data on complete T = 1 isospin triplets is presented.

Abstract (up) Evidence for electroweak production of two jets in association with a Z gamma pair in root s = 13 TeV proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider is presented. The analysis uses data collected by the ATLAS detector in 2015 and 2016 that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb(-1). Events that contain a Z boson candidate decaying leptonically into either e(+)e(-) or mu(+)mu(-), a photon, and two jets are selected. The electroweak component is measured with observed and expected significances of 4.1 standard deviations. The fiducial cross-section for electroweak production is measured to be sigma(Z gamma jj-Ew) = 7.8 +/- 2.0 fb, in good agreement with the Standard Model prediction.

Title Transition probabilities in P-31 and S-31: A test for isospin symmetry Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B

Abstract (up) Excited states in the mirror nuclei P-31 and S-31 were populated in the 1p and 1n exit channels of the reaction Ne-20 + C-12, at a beam energy of 33 MeV. The Ne-20 beam was delivered for the first time by the Piave-Alpi accelerator of the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. Angular correlations of coincident gamma-rays and Doppler-shift attenuation lifetime measurements were performed using the multi-detector array GASP in conjunction with the EUCLIDES charged particle detector. In the observed B(E1) strengths, the isoscalar component, amounting to 24% of the isovector one, provides strong evidence for breaking of the isospin symmetry in the A = 31 mass region. Self-consistent beyond mean field calculations using Equation of Motion method based on a chiral potential and including two- and three-body forces reproduce well the experimental B(E1) strengths, reinforcing our conclusion. Coherent mixing from higher-lying states involving the Giant Isovector Monopole Resonance accounts well for the effect observed. The breaking of the isospin symmetry originates from the violation of the charge symmetry of the two- and three-body parts of the potential, only related to the Coulomb interaction.

  Volume 785 Issue Pages 441-446
Keywords Radioactive beams; Gamma-ray spectroscopy; Mirror symmetry; Shape coexistence
Abstract (up) Excited states in the T-z = -1 nucleus Kr-70 have been populated using inelastic scattering of a radioactive Kr-70 beam as well as one- and two-neutron removal reactions from Kr-71,Kr-72 at intermediate beam energies. The level scheme of Kr-70 was constructed from the observed gamma-ray transitions and coincidences. Tentative spin and parity assignments were made based on comparison with the mirror nucleus Se-70. Asecond 2(+) state and a candidate for the corresponding 4(2)(+) state suggest shape coexistence in Kr-70.

Abstract (up) Excited states in the Tz = 0, -1 nuclei Ga-62 and Ge-62 were populated in direct reactions of relativistic radioactive ion beams at the RIBF. Coincident gamma rays were measured with the DALI2(+) array and uniquely assigned to the A = 62 isobars. In addition, Ge-62 was also studied independently at JYFL-ACCLAB using the Mg-24(Ca-40,2n)Ge-62 fusion-evaporation reaction. The first excited T = 1, J(pi) = 2(+) states in Ga-62 and Ge-62 were identified at 979(1) and 965(1) keV, respectively, resolving discrepant interpretations in the literature. States beyond the first 2+ state in Ge-62 were also identified for the first time in the present work. The results are compared with shell-model calculations in the f p. model space. Mirror and triplet energy differences are analyzed in terms of individual charge-symmetry and charge-independence breaking contributions. The MED results confirm the shrinkage of the p-orbits' radii when they are occupied by at least one nucleon on average.
