Title Charged kaon production by coherent scattering of neutrinos and antineutrinos on nuclei Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
  Volume 87 Issue 1 Pages 015503 - 11pp

Abstract (down) With the aim of achieving a better and more complete understanding of neutrino interactions with nuclear targets, the coherent production of charged kaons induced by neutrinos and antineutrinos is investigated in the energy range of some of the current neutrino experiments. We follow a microscopic approach which, at the nucleon level, incorporates the most important mechanisms allowed by the chiral-symmetry-breaking pattern of QCD. The distortion of the outgoing K ((K) over bar) is taken into account by solving the Klein-Gordon equation with realistic optical potentials. Angular and momentum distributions, as well as the energy and nuclear dependence of the total cross section, are studied.

Title Using the standard solar model to constrain solar composition and nuclear reaction S factors Type Journal Article

Abstract (down) While standard solar model (SSM) predictions depend on approximately 20 input parameters, SSM neutrino flux predictions are strongly correlated with a single model output parameter, the core temperature T-c. Consequently, one can extract physics from solar neutrino flux measurements while minimizing the consequences of SSM uncertainties, by studying flux ratios with appropriate power-law weightings tuned to cancel this T-c dependence. We reexamine an idea for constraining the primordial C + N content of the solar core from a ratio of CN-cycle O-15 to pp-chain B-8 neutrino fluxes, showing that non-nuclear SSM uncertainties in the ratio are small and effectively governed by a single parameter, the diffusion coefficient. We point out that measurements of both CN-I cycle neutrino branches-O-15 and N-13 beta-decay-could, in principle, lead to separate determinations of the core C and N abundances, due to out-of-equilibrium CN-cycle burning in the cooler outer layers of the solar core. Finally, we show that the strategy of constructing “minimum uncertainty” neutrino flux ratios can also test other properties of the SSM. In particular, we demonstrate that a weighted ratio of Be-7 and B-8 fluxes constrains a product of S-factors to the same precision currently possible with laboratory data.

Title Combined analysis of the pn -> d pi(+)pi(-) and pn -> pn pi(+)pi(-) cross sections and implications for the interpretation of the pn -> d pi(+)pi(-) data Type Journal Article

Abstract (down) We use recent data that show a narrow peak around root s = 2.37 GeV in the pn -> d pi(+)pi(-) cross section, with about double strength at the peak than in the analogous pn -> d pi(0)pi(0) reaction, and, assuming that it is due to the excitation of a dibaryon resonance, we evaluate the cross section for the pn -> pn pi(+)pi(-) reaction, with the final pn unbound but with the same quantum numbers as the deuteron. We use accurate techniques to determine the final state interaction in the case of the pn forming a deuteron or a positive energy state, which allow us to get the pn -> pn pi(+)pi(-) cross section with pn in I = 0 and S = 1, that turns out to be quite close or saturates the experimental pn -> pn pi(+)pi(-) total cross section around root s = 2.37 GeV, depending on the angular momentum assumed. This poses problems to the assumption of the dibaryon hypothesis, which could be rendered more restrictive with future precise data on the pn -> pn pi(+)pi(-) reaction.

Title The small K pi component in the K* wave functions Type Journal Article

Abstract (down) We use a recently developed formalism which generalizes Weinberg's compositeness condition to partial waves higher than s-wave in order to determine the probability of having a K pi component in the K* wave function. A fit is made to the K pi phase shifts in p-wave, from where the coupling of K* to K pi and the K pi loop function are determined. These ingredients allow us to determine that the K* is a genuine state, different from a K pi component, in a proportion of about 80%.

Abstract (down) We suggest a minimal extension of the simplest A(4) flavor model that can induce a nonzero theta(13) value, as required by recent neutrino oscillation data from reactors and accelerators. The predicted correlation between the atmospheric mixing angle theta(23) and the magnitude of theta(13) leads to an allowed region substantially smaller than indicated by neutrino-oscillation global fits. Moreover, the scheme correlates CP violation in neutrino oscillations with the octant of the atmospheric mixing parameter theta(23) in such a way that, for example, maximal mixing necessarily violates CP. We briefly comment on other phenomenological features of the model.

Abstract (down) We study-at leading order in the large number of colors expansion and within the resonance chiral theory framework-the odd-intrinsic-parity e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-) (pi(0); eta) cross sections in the energy regime populated by hadron resonances, namely 3m(pi) less than or similar to E less than or similar to 2 GeV. In addition, we implement our results in the Monte Carlo generator PHOKHARA 7.0 and we simulate hadron production through the radiative return method.

Title The role of f(0)(1710) in the phi omega threshold peak of J/Psi -> gamma phi omega Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
  Volume 719 Issue 4-5 Pages 388-393
  Keywords
Abstract (down) We study the process J/Psi -> gamma phi omega, measured by the BES experiment, where a neat peak close to the phi omega threshold is observed and is associated to a scalar meson resonance around 1800 MeV. We make the observation that a scalar resonance coupling to phi omega unavoidably couples strongly to K (K) over bar, but no trace of a peak is seen in the K (K) over bar spectrum of the J/Psi -> gamma K (K) over bar at this energy. This serves us to rule out the interpretation of the observed peak as a signal of a new resonance. After this is done, a thorough study is performed on the production of a pair of vector mesons and how its interaction leads necessarily to a peak in the J/Psi -> gamma phi omega reaction close to the phi omega threshold, due to the dynamical generation of the f(0)(1710) resonance by the vector-vector interaction. We then show that both the shape obtained for the phi omega mass distribution, as well as the strength are naturally reproduced by this mechanism. The work also explains why the phi omega peak is observed in the BES experiment and not in other reactions, like B-+/- -> K-+/-phi omega of Belle.

Abstract (down) We study the K (L) and K (S) decays into four leptons (, , ) where we use a form factor motivated by vector meson dominance, and show the dependence of the branching ratios and spectra from the slopes. A precise determination of short-distance contribution to K (L) ->mu μis affected by our ignorance on the sign of the amplitude but we show a possibility to measure the sign of this amplitude by studying K (L) and K (S) decays in four leptons. We also investigate the effect of New Physics contributions for these decays.

Abstract (down) We study the interaction between two B = 1 states in the Chiral Dilaton Model where baryons are described as nontopological solitons arising from the interaction of chiral mesons and quarks. By using the hedgehog solution for B = 1 states we construct, via a product ansatz, three possible B = 2 configurations to analyse the role of the relative orientation of the hedgehog quills in the dynamics of the soliton-soliton interaction and investigate the behavior of these solutions in the range of long/intermediate distance. One of the solutions is quite binding due to the dynamics of the pi and sigma fields at intermediate distance and should be used for nuclear matter studies. Since the product ansatz break down as the two solitons get close, we explore the short range distance regime with a model that describes the interaction via a six-quark bag ansatz. We calculate the interaction energy as a function of the inter-soliton distance and show that for small separations the six quarks bag, assuming a hedgehog structure, provides a stable bound state that at large separations connects with a special configuration coming from the product ansatz.
