Abstract: beta-delayed one-neutron and two-neutron branching ratios (P-1n and P-2n) have been measured in the decay of A = 84 to 87 Ga isotopes at the Radioactive-Isotope Beam Factory (RIBF) at the RIKEN Nishina Center using a high-efficiency array of He-3 neutron counters (BRIKEN). Two-neutron emission was observed in the decay of Ga-84,Ga-85,Ga-87 for the first time and the branching ratios were measured to be P-2n = 1.6(2)%, 1.3(2)%, and 10.2(28)(stat)(5)(sys)%, respectively. One-neutron branching ratio of Ga-87 (P-1n = 81(9)(stat)(8)(sys)%) and half-life of 29(4) ms were measured for the first time. The branching ratios of Ga-86 were also measured to be P-1n = 74(2)(stat)(8)(sys)% and 16.2(9)(stat)(6)(sys)% with better precision than a previous study. The observation that P-1n > P-2n for both Ga-86,Ga-87 was unexpected and is interpreted as a signature of dominating one-neutron emission from the two-neutron unbound excited states in Ge-86,Ge-87. In order to interpret the experimental results, shell-model and Hauser-Feshbach statistical model calculations of delayed particle and gamma-ray emission probabilities were performed. This model framework reproduces the experimental results. The shell model alone predicts P-2n significantly larger than P-1n for the Ga-87 decay, and it is necessary to invoke a statistical description to successfully explain the observation that P-1n > P-2n. Our new results demonstrate the relevance and importance of a statistical description of neutron emission for the prediction of the decay properties of multineutron emitters and that it must be included in the r-process modeling.

Abstract: The decay properties of 133In were studied in detail at the ISOLDE Decay Station. The implementation of the Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source allowed separate measurements of its 9/2+ ground state (133gIn) and 1/2- isomer (133mIn). With the use of & beta;-delayed neutron and & gamma; spectroscopy, the decay strengths above the neutron separation energy were quantified in this neutron-rich nucleus for the first time. The allowed Gamow-Teller transition 9/2+ & RARR; 7/2+ was located at 5.93 MeV in the 133gIn decay with a log ft = 4.7(1). In addition, several neutron-unbound states were populated at lower excitation energies by the first-forbidden decays of 133g,mIn. We assigned spins and parities to those neutron-unbound states based on the & beta;-decay selection rules, the log ft values, and systematics.

Abstract: The pp -> nK(+)Sigma(+)(1385) reaction is a very good isospin 3/2 filter for studying Delta(++)* resonance decaying to K+Sigma(+)(1385). Within the effective Lagrangian method, we investigate the Sigma (1385) (spin parity J(P) = 3/2(+)) hadronic production in the pi(+) p -> K+Sigma(+)(1385) and pp -> nK(+)Sigma(+)(1385) reactions. For the pi(+) p -> K+Sigma(+)(1385) reaction, in addition to the “background” contributions from t-channel K*(0) exchange and u-channel Lambda(1115) and Sigma(0)(1193) exchange, we also consider the contribution from the s-channel Delta*(1940) resonance, which has significant coupling to the K Sigma(1385) channel. We show that the inclusion of the Delta*(1940) resonance leads to a fairly good description of the low-energy experimental total cross section data of pi(+)p -> K+Sigma(+)(1385) reaction. Basing on the study of the pi(+)p -> K+Sigma(+)(1385) reaction and with the assumption that the excitation of Delta*(1940) resonance dominates the pp -> nK(+)Sigma(+)(1385) reaction, we calculate the total and differential cross sections of the pp -> nK(+)Sigma(+)(1385) reaction. It is shown that the new experimental data support the important role played by the Delta*(1940) resonance with a mass in the region of 1940 MeV and a width of around 200 MeV. We also demonstrate that the invariant mass distribution and the Dalitz plot provide direct information of the Sigma(+)(1385) production, which can be tested by future experiments.

Abstract: Assuming that the f(2)'(1525), a(2)(1320), and K-2(*) (1430) resonances are dynamically generated states from vector-meson-vector-meson interactions in the s-wave with spin S = 2, we study the gamma p -> f(2)'(1525)p, gamma p -> a(2)(0)(1320)p, and gamma p -> K-2(*)(1430)Lambda(Sigma) reactions. These reactions proceed in the following way: the incoming photon first mutates into a rho(0), omega, or phi meson via vector-meson dominance, which then interacts with the rho(0), omega, or K* emitted by the incoming proton to form the tensor mesons f(2)(')(1525), a(2)(1320), and K-2(*)(1430). The picture is simple and has no free parameters, as all the parameters of the mechanism have been fixed in previous studies. We predict the differential and total cross sections of these reactions. The results can be tested in future experiments and therefore offer new clues about the nature of these tensor states.

Abstract: From a Faddeev calculation for the pi-(Delta rho)(N5/2)-(1675) system we show the plausible existence of three dynamically generated I (J(P)) = 3/2(5/2(+)) baryon states below 2.3 GeV, whereas only two resonances, Delta(5/2)+ (1905)( ) and Delta(5/2)+(2000)(**), are cataloged in the Particle Data Book Review. Our results give theoretical support to data analyses extracting two distinctive resonances, Lambda(5/2)+(similar to 1740) and Lambda(5/2)+(similar to 2200), from which the mass of Delta(5/2)+ (2000) is estimated. We propose that these two resonances should be cataloged instead of Delta(5/2)+(2000). This proposal gets further support from the possible assignment of the other baryon states found in the approach in the I = 1/2, 3/2 with J(P) = 1/2(+), 3/2(+), 5/(2)+ sectors to known baryonic resonances. In particular, Delta(1/2)+(1750)(*) is naturally interpreted as a pi N-1/2-(1650) bound state.
