Title Hybrid seeding: A standalone track reconstruction algorithm for scintillating fibre tracker at LHCb Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Computer Physics Communications Abbreviated Journal Comput. Phys. Commun.
  Volume 260 Issue Pages 107713 - 5pp
Keywords Track reconstruction; Pattern Recognition; LHCb
Abstract We describe the Hybrid seeding, a stand-alone pattern recognition algorithm aiming at finding charged particle trajectories for the LHCb upgrade. A significant improvement to the charged particle reconstruction efficiency is accomplished by exploiting the knowledge of the LHCb magnetic field and the position of energy deposits in the scintillating fibre tracker detector. Moreover, we achieve a low fake rate and a small contribution to the overall timing budget of the LHCb real-time data processing.

Title Unleashing the full power of LHCb to probe stealth new physics Type Journal Article
Year 2022 Publication Reports on Progress in Physics Abbreviated Journal Rep. Prog. Phys.
  Volume 85 Issue 2 Pages 024201 - 45pp
Keywords LHCb; stealth physics; BSM physics; hidden sectors; long-lived particles; dark matter
Abstract In this paper, we describe the potential of the LHCb experiment to detect stealth physics. This refers to dynamics beyond the standard model that would elude searches that focus on energetic objects or precision measurements of known processes. Stealth signatures include long-lived particles and light resonances that are produced very rarely or together with overwhelming backgrounds. We will discuss why LHCb is equipped to discover this kind of physics at the Large Hadron Collider and provide examples of well-motivated theoretical models that can be probed with great detail at the experiment.

Title Effect of the high-level trigger for detecting long-lived particles at LHCb Type Journal Article
Year 2022 Publication Frontiers in Big Data Abbreviated Journal Front. Big Data
  Volume 5 Issue Pages 1008737 - 13pp
Keywords LHCb; trigger; real time analysis; long-lived particles; GPU; SciFi; beyond standard physics
Abstract Long-lived particles (LLPs) show up in many extensions of the Standard Model, but they are challenging to search for with current detectors, due to their very displaced vertices. This study evaluated the ability of the trigger algorithms used in the Large Hadron Collider beauty (LHCb) experiment to detect long-lived particles and attempted to adapt them to enhance the sensitivity of this experiment to undiscovered long-lived particles. A model with a Higgs portal to a dark sector is tested, and the sensitivity reach is discussed. In the LHCb tracking system, the farthest tracking station from the collision point is the scintillating fiber tracker, the SciFi detector. One of the challenges in the track reconstruction is to deal with the large amount of and combinatorics of hits in the LHCb detector. A dedicated algorithm has been developed to cope with the large data output. When fully implemented, this algorithm would greatly increase the available statistics for any long-lived particle search in the forward region and would additionally improve the sensitivity of analyses dealing with Standard Model particles of large lifetime, such as KS0 or Lambda (0) hadrons.

Title Radiative b-baryon decays to measure the photon and b-baryon polarization Type Journal Article
Year 2019 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
  Volume 79 Issue 7 Pages 634 - 10pp
  Keywords
Abstract The radiative decays of b-baryons facilitate the direct measurement of photon helicity in b -> s gamma transitions thus serving as an important test of physics beyond the Standard Model. In this paper we analyze the complete angular distribution of ground state b-baryon radiative decays to multibody final states assuming an initially polarized b-baryon sample. Our sensitivity study suggests that the photon polarization asymmetry can be extracted to a good accuracy along with a simultaneous measurement of the initial b-baryon polarization. With higher yields of b-baryons, achievable in subsequent runs of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), we find that the photon polarization measurement can play a pivotal role in constraining different new physics scenarios.

Title Searches for 25 rare and forbidden decays of D+ and Ds+ mesons Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 06 Issue 6 Pages 044 - 24pp
Keywords Charm physics; Flavour physics; Flavour Changing Neutral Currents; Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments); Rare decay
Abstract A search is performed for rare and forbidden charm decays of the form D+-> hl+l -/+, where h(+/-) is a pion or kaon and l((')+/-) is an electron or muon. The measurements are performed using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.6 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment in 2016. No evidence is observed for the 25 decay modes that are investigated and 90 % confidence level limits on the branching fractions are set between 1.4 x 10(-8) and 6.4 x 10(-6). In most cases, these results represent an improvement on existing limits by one to two orders of magnitude.

Title Measurement of Xi(++)(cc) production in pp collisions at root s=13 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2020 Publication Chinese Physics C Abbreviated Journal Chin. Phys. C
  Volume 44 Issue 2 Pages 022001 - 11pp
Keywords doubly charmed baryons; hadron production; QCD
Abstract The production of Xi(++)(cc) baryons in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 13 Tev is measured in the transverse-momentum range 4 < p(T) < 15 GeV/c and the rapidity range 2.0 < y < 4.5. The data used in this measurement correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 fb(-1), recorded by the LHCb experiment during 2016. The ratio of the Xi(++)(cc) production cross-section times the branching fraction of the Xi(++)(cc) -> Lambda K-+(c)-pi(+)pi(+) decay relative to the prompt Lambda(+)(c) production cross-section is found to be (2.22 +/- 0.27 +/- 0.29) x 10(-4), assuming the central value of the measured Xi(++)(cc) lifetime, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.

Title Measurement of psi (2S) production cross-sections in proton-proton collisions at v s=7 and 13 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2020 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
  Volume 80 Issue 3 Pages 185 - 23pp
  Keywords
  Abstract The cross-sections of.(2S) meson production in proton-proton collisions at v s = 13 TeV are measured with a data sample collected by the LHCb detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 275 pb-1. The production cross-sections for prompt.(2S) mesons and those for.(2S) mesons from b-hadron decays (.(2S)-from-b) are determined as functions of the transverse momentum, pT, and the rapidity, y, of the.(2S) meson in the kinematic range 2 < pT < 20 GeV/c and 2.0 < y < 4.5. The production cross-sections integrated over this kinematic region are s(prompt.(2S), 13 TeV) = 1.430 +/- 0.005 (stat) +/- 0.099 (syst) μb, s(.(2S)-from-b, 13 TeV) = 0.426 +/- 0.002 (stat) +/- 0.030 (syst) μb. A new measurement of.(2S) production cross-sections in pp collisions at v s = 7 TeV is also performed using data collected in 2011, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 614 pb-1. The integrated production cross-sections in the kinematic range 3.5 < pT < 14 GeV/c and 2.0 < y < 4.5 are s(prompt.(2S), 7 TeV) = 0.471 +/- 0.001 (stat) +/- 0.025 (syst) μb, s(.(2S)-from-b, 7 TeV) = 0.126 +/- 0.001 (stat) +/- 0.008 (syst) μb. All results show reasonable agreement with theoretical calculations.

Abstract Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb-1, collected by the LHCb experiment, the production of the.c(1S) state in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of v s = 13 TeVis studied in the rapidity range 2.0 < y < 4.5 and in the transverse momentum range 6.5 < pT < 14.0GeV. The cross-section for prompt production of.c(1S) mesons relative to that of the J/. meson is measured using the p p decay mode and is found to be s.c(1S)/sJ/. = 1.69 +/- 0.15 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.18. The quoted uncertainties are, in order, statistical, systematic and due to uncertainties on the branching fractions of the J/.. p p and.c. p p decays. The prompt.c(1S) production cross-section is determined to be s.c( 1S) = 1.26 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.08 +/- 0.14 μb, where the last uncertainty includes that on the J/. meson cross-section. The ratio of the branching fractions of b-hadron decays to the.c(1S) and J/. states is measured to be Bb..c X /Bb. J/. X = 0.48 +/- 0.03 +/- 0.03 +/- 0.05, where the last uncertainty is due to those on the branching fractions of the J/.. p p and.c. p p decays. The difference between the J/. and.c(1S) masses is also determined to be 113.0 +/- 0.7 +/- 0.1MeV, which is the most precise single measurement of this quantity to date.

Abstract A first search for CP violation in the Cabibbo-suppressed Xi(+)(c) -> pK(-) pi(+) decay is performed using both a binned and an unbinned model-independent technique in the Dalitz plot. The studies are based on a sample of protonproton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1), and collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The data are consistent with the hypothesis of no CP violation.
