Title A model-independent measurement of the CKM angle γ in partially reconstructed B±→D∗h± decays with D→K0Sh+h-(h=π,K) Type Journal Article
Year 2024 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 02 Issue 2 Pages 118 - 30pp
Keywords B Physics; CKM Angle Gamma; CP Violation; Hadron-Hadron Scattering
Abstract A measurement of CP-violating observables in B-+/-->(DK +/-)-K-& lowast; and B-+/--> D-& lowast;pi(+/-) decays is made where the photon or neutral pion from the D-& lowast;-> D gamma or D-& lowast;-> D pi(0) decay is not reconstructed. The D meson is reconstructed in the self-conjugate decay modes, D -> K-S(0)pi(+)pi(-) or D ->(KSK+K-)-K-0. The distribution of signal yields in the D decay phase space is analysed in a model-independent way. The measurement uses a data sample collected in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of approximately 9 fb(-1). The B-+/-->(DK +/-)-K-& lowast; and B-+/--> D-& lowast;pi(+/-) CP-violating observables are interpreted in terms of hadronic parameters and the CKM angle gamma, resulting in a measurement of gamma=(92(-17)(+21))degrees. The total uncertainty includes the statistical and systematic uncertainties, and the uncertainty due to external strong-phase inputs.

Title Prompt and nonprompt ψ(2S) production in pPb collisions at √sNN = 8.16 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2024 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 04 Issue 4 Pages 111 - 52pp
Keywords QCD; Heavy Quark Production; Particle and Resonance Production; Hadron-Hadron Scattering
Abstract The production of psi(2S) mesons in proton-lead collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of root s(NN) = 8.16TeV is studied with the LHCb detector using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 34 nb(-1). The prompt and nonprompt psi(2S) production cross-sections and the ratio of the psi(2S) to J/psi cross-section are measured as a function of the meson transverse momentum and rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass frame, together with forward-to-backward ratios and nuclear modification factors. The production of prompt psi(2S) is observed to be more suppressed compared to pp collisions than the prompt J/psi production, while the nonprompt productions have similar suppression factors.

Title Search for CP violation in the phase space of D0 → KS0 K± π∓ decays with the energy test Type Journal Article
Year 2024 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 03 Issue 3 Pages 107 - 20pp
Keywords Charm Physics; CP Violation; Hadron-Hadron Scattering
Abstract A search for CP violation in D-0 -> (KSK+)-K-0 pi(-) and D-0 -> (KSK-)-K-0 pi(+) decays is reported. The search is performed using an unbinned model-independent method known as the energy test that probes local CP violation in the phase space of the decays. The data analysed correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb(-1) collected in proton-proton collisions by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 13TeV, amounting to approximately 950 thousand and 620 thousand signal candidates for the D-0 -> (KSK-)-K-0 pi(+) and D-0 -> (KSK+)-K-0 pi(-) modes, respectively. The method is validated using D-0 -> K-pi(+)pi(-)pi(+) and D-0 -> K-S(0)pi(+)pi(-) decays, where CP-violating effects are expected to be negligible, and using background-enhanced regions of the signal decays. The results are consistent with CP symmetry in both the D-0 -> (KSK-)-K-0 pi(+) and the D-0 -> (KSK+)-K-0 pi(-) decays, with p-values for the hypothesis of no CP violation of 70% and 66%, respectively.

Title Measurements of the branching fraction ratio B(φ → μ+μ-)/B(φ → e+e-) with charm meson decays Type Journal Article
Year 2024 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 05 Issue 5 Pages 293 - 24pp
Keywords B Physics; Branching fraction; Charm Physics; Hadron-Hadron Scattering
Abstract Measurements of the branching fraction ratio B(phi -> mu(+)mu(-))/B(phi -> e(+)e(-)) with D-s(+) -> pi(+)phi and D+ -> pi(+)phi decays, denoted R-phi pi(s) and R-phi pi(d), are presented. The analysis is performed using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb(-1) of pp collision data collected with the LHCb experiment. The branching fractions are normalised with respect to the B+ -> K+ J/psi(-> e(+) e(-)) and B+ -> K+ J/psi(-> mu(+)mu(-)) decay modes. The combination of the results yields R-phi pi = 1.022 +/- 0.012 (stat) +/- 0.048 (syst). The result is compatible with previous measurements of the phi -> l(+) l(-) branching fractions and predictions based on the Standard Model.

Title Fraction of χc Decays in Prompt J/ψ Production Measured in pPb Collisions at root s(NN)=8.16 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2024 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
Volume 132 Issue 10 Pages 102302 - 12pp
Keywords
Abstract The fraction of chi(c1) and chi(c2) decays in the prompt J=psi yield, F-chi c -> J=psi = sigma(chi c) -> J=psi/ sigma(J/ psi) , is measured by the LHCb detector in pPb collisions at root s(NN) = 8.16 TeV. The study covers the forward (1.5 < y* < 4.0) and sNN backward (-5.0 < y* < -2.5) rapidity regions, where y* is the J=psi rapidity in the nucleon -nucleon centerof -mass system. Forward and backward rapidity samples correspond to integrated luminosities of 13.6 +/- 0.3 and 20.8 +/- 0.5 nb(-1) , respectively. The result is presented as a function of the J=psi transverse momentum pT;J/ psi in the range 1 < pT -> J/ psi < 20 GeV=c. The F-chi c -> J=psi fraction at forward rapidity is compatible with the LHCb measurement performed in pp collisions at root s= 7 TeV, whereas the result at s backward rapidity is 2.4 sigma larger than in the forward region for 1 < pT,(J/ psi) < 3 GeV/ c. The increase of F-chi c -> J/ psi at low pT;J/ psi at backward rapidity is compatible with the suppression of the psi(2S) contribution to the prompt J/ psi yield. The lack of in -medium dissociation of chi(c) states observed in this study sets an upper limit of 180 MeV on the free energy available in these pPb collisions to dissociate or inhibit charmonium state formation.

Title Measurement of the D* longitudinal polarization in B0 → D*- τ+νt decays Type Journal Article
Year 2024 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 110 Issue 9 Pages 092007 - 18pp
Keywords
Abstract The longitudinal polarization fraction of the D* meson is measured in B-0 -> D*(-) tau(+)nu(t) decays, where the tau lepton decays to three charged pions and a neutrino, using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 fb(-1). The D* polarization fraction F-L(D)* is measured in two q(2) regions, below and above 7 GeV2/c(4), where q(2) is defined as the squared invariant mass of the tau nu(tau) system. The F-L(D)*L values are measured to be 0.52 +/- 0.07 +/- 0.04 and 0.34 +/- 0.08 +/- 0.02 for the lower and higher q(2) regions, respectively. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The average value over the whole q(2) range is F-L(D)* = 0.41 +/- 0.06 +/- 0.03. These results are compatible with the Standard Model predictions.

Abstract Flow harmonic coefficients, nu(n), which are the key to studying the hydrodynamics of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) created in heavy-ion collisions, have been measured in various collision systems and kinematic regions and using various particle species. The study of flow harmonics in a wide pseudorapidity range is particularly valuable to understand the temperature dependence of the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio of the QGP. This paper presents the first LHCb results of the second- and the third-order flow harmonic coefficients of charged hadrons as a function of transverse momentum in the forward region, corresponding to pseudorapidities between 2.0 and 4.9, using the data collected from PbPb collisions in 2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. The coefficients measured using the two-particle angular correlation analysis method are smaller than the central-pseudorapidity measurements at ALICE and ATLAS from the same collision system but share similar features.

Title Amplitude Analysis of the B0 -> K*0 μ+μ- Decay Type Journal Article
Year 2024 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
Volume 132 Issue 13 Pages 131801 - 13pp

Abstract An amplitude analysis of the B-0 -> K*(0) mu(+)mu(-) decay is presented using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb(-1) of pp collision data collected with the LHCb experiment. For the first time, the coefficients associated to short-distance physics effects, sensitive to processes beyond the standard model, are extracted directly from the data through a q(2)-unbinned amplitude analysis, where q(2) is the mu(+)mu(-) invariant mass squared. Long-distance contributions, which originate from nonfactorizable QCD processes, are systematically investigated, and the most accurate assessment to date of their impact on the physical observables is obtained. The pattern of measured corrections to the short-distance couplings is found to be consistent with previous analyses of b- to s-quark transitions, with the largest discrepancy from the standard model predictions found to be at the level of 1.8 standard deviations. The global significance of the observed differences in the decay is 1.4 standard deviations.

Title Measurement of associated Jψ-ψ(2S) production cross-section in pp collisions at √s=13 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2024 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.

Abstract The cross-section of associated J/psi-psi(2S) production in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 13 TeV is measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.2 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment. The measurement is performed for both J/psi and psi(2S) mesons having transverse momentum p(T) < 14 GeV/c and rapidity 2.0 < y < 4.5, assuming negligible polarisation of the J/psi and psi(2S) mesons. The production cross-section is measured to be 4.5 +/- 0.7 +/- 0.3 nb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The differential cross-sections are measured as functions of several kinematic variables of the J/psi-psi(2S) candidates. The results are combined with a measurement of J/psi- J/psi production, giving a cross-section ratio between J/psi-psi(2S) and J/psi- J/psi production of 0.274 +/- 0.044 +/- 0.008, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.
