Title High-spin structure and intruder excitations in Cl-36 Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
  Volume 86 Issue 2 Pages 024320 - 13pp
  Keywords
Abstract Excited states up to J(pi) = 11(-) at 10 296 keV and J(pi) = 10(+) at 10 707 keV have been populated in the odd-odd Cl-36 nucleus using the Mg-24(N-14,2p) fusion-evaporation reaction at E-lab = 31 MeV. Twenty new states and 62 new gamma transitions have been identified by employing gamma-gamma and gamma-gamma-gamma coincidences. Lifetimes have been investigated by the Doppler shift attenuation method. The experimental data have been compared with the results of large-scale shell-model calculations performed using different effective interactions and model spaces allowing particle-hole excitations across the N = Z = 20 shell gap.

Title Performance of the Fully Digital FPGA-Based Front-End Electronics for the GALILEO Array Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science Abbreviated Journal IEEE Trans. Nucl. Sci.
  Volume 62 Issue 6 Pages 3134-3139
Keywords FPGA; front-end electronics; gamma-ray spectroscopy; germanium detectors
Abstract In this work we present the architecture and results of a fully digital Front End Electronics (FEE) read out system developed for the GALILEO array. The FEE system, developed in collaboration with the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) collaboration, is composed of three main blocks: preamplifiers, digitizers and preprocessing electronics. The slow control system contains a custom Linux driver, a dynamic library and a server implementing network services. This work presents the first results of the digital FEE system coupled with a GALILEO germanium detector, which has demonstrated the capability to achieve an energy resolution of 1.53% at an energy of 1.33 MeV, similar to the one obtained with a conventional analog system. While keeping a good performance in terms of energy resolution, digital electronics will allow to instrument the full GALILEO array with a versatile system with high integration and low power consumption and costs.

Title Multiple Register Synchronization With a High-Speed Serial Link Using the Aurora Protocol Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science Abbreviated Journal IEEE Trans. Nucl. Sci.
  Volume 60 Issue 5 Pages 3521-3525
  Keywords
Abstract In this work, the development and characterization of a multiple synchronous registers interface communicating with a high-speed serial link and using the Aurora protocol is presented. A detailed description of the developing process and the characterization methods and hardware test benches are also included. This interface will implement the slow control buses of the digitizer cards for the second generation of electronics for the Advanced GAmma Tracking Array (AGATA).

Title First measurement of beta decay half-lives in neutron-rich Tl and Bi isotopes Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
  Volume 715 Issue 4-5 Pages 293-297
  Keywords
Abstract Neutron-rich isotopes around lead, beyond N = 126, have been studied exploiting the fragmentation of an uranium primary beam at the FRS-RISING setup at GSI. For the first time beta-decay half-lives of Bi-219 and Tl-211,Tl-212,Tl-213 isotopes have been derived. The half-lives have been extracted using a numerical simulation developed for experiments in high-background conditions. Comparison with state of the art models used in r-process calculations is given, showing a systematic underestimation of the experimental values, at variance from close-lying nuclei.

Title New method for the production of thin and stable, segmented n plus contacts in HPGe detectors Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication European Physical Journal A Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. A
  Volume 57 Issue 6 Pages 177 - 10pp
  Keywords
Abstract The realization of pulsed-laser diffused, thin n+ contacts on high purity germanium (HPGe) and their successful segmentation is described. The contacts have been obtained by a laser-induced diffusion of Sb atoms, deposited by sputtering on Ge surface, and then segmented by means of a photolithographic technique. Three small prototypes of gamma ray detectors have been implemented, using the same n+ contact (laser diffused Sb) but with three different geometries and a B implanted p+ contact. Electrical and detection properties of the prototypes have been characterized, showing low leakage currents and good spectroscopy data with different gamma-ray sources. The stability of the detector performance has also been tested subjecting one of the prototypes to a typical annealing treatment.
