Abstract: The so far only known charmed non-strange scalar meson is dubbed as D-0(*)(2400) in the Review of Particle Physics. We show, within the framework of unitarized chiral perturbation theory, that there are in fact two (I = 1/2, J(P) = 0(+)) poles in the region of the D-0(*)( 2400) in the coupled-channel D pi, D eta and D-s (K) over bar scattering amplitudes. With all the parameters previously fixed, we predict the energy levels for the coupled-channel system in a finite volume, and find that they agree remarkably well with recent lattice QCD calculations. This successful description of the lattice data is regarded as a strong evidence for the two-pole structure of the D-0(*)( 2400). With the physical quark masses, the poles are located at (2105(-8)(+6) – i102(-12)(+10)) MeV and (2451(-26)(+36) – i134(-8)(+7)) MeV, with the largest couplings to the D pi and D-s (K) over bar channels, respectively. Since the higher pole is close to the D-s (K) over bar threshold, we expect it to show up as a threshold enhancement in the D-s (K) over bar invariant mass distribution. This could be checked by high-statistic data in future experiments. We also show that the lower pole belongs to the same SU(3) multiplet as the D-s0(*)(2317) state. Predictions for partners in the bottom sector are also given.

Abstract: We analytically investigate backreaction by a quantum scalar field on two rotating Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) geometries: that of a black hole and that of a naked singularity. In the former case, we explore the quantum effects on various regions of relevance for a rotating black hole space-time. We find that the quantum effects lead to a growth of both the event horizon and the radius of the ergosphere, and to a reduction of the angular velocity, compared to the unperturbed values. Furthermore, they give rise to the formation of a curvature singularity at the Cauchy horizon and show no evidence of the appearance of a superradiant instability. In the case of a naked singularity, we find that quantum effects lead to the formation of a horizon that shields it, thus supporting evidence for the role of quantum mechanics as a cosmic censor in nature.

Abstract: We investigate lepton flavour violation in a class of minimal left-right symmetric models where the left-right symmetry is broken by triplet scalars. In this context we present a method to consistently calculate the triplet-Yukawa couplings which takes into account the experimental data while simultaneously respecting the underlying symmetries. Analysing various scenarios, we then calculate the full set of tree-level and one-loop contributions to all radiative and three-body flavour-violating fully leptonic decays as well as well as μ- e conversion in nuclei. Our method illustrates how these processes depend on the underlying parameters of the theory. To that end we observe that, for many choices of the model parameters, there is a strong complementarity between the different observables. For instance, in a large part of the parameter space, lepton flavour violating T-decays have a large enough branching ratio to be measured in upcoming experiments. Our results further show that experiments coming online in the immediate future, like Mu3e and BELLE II, or longer-term, such as PRISM/PRIME, will probe significant portions of the currently allowed parameter space.

Abstract: A measurement of the ZZ production cross section in the l(-)l(+)l'(-)l'(+) and l(-)l(+) nu(nu) over bar channels (l = e, mu) in proton-proton collisions at root s = 8TeV at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1) collected by the ATLAS experiment in 2012 is presented. The fi ducial cross sections for ZZ -> l(-)l(+)l'(-)l'(+) and ZZ -> l(-)l(+) nu(nu) over bar are measured in selected phase-space regions. The total cross section for ZZ events produced with both Z bosons in the mass range 66 to 116 GeV is measured from the combination of the two channels to be 7.3 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 0.3 (syst) (-0.2)(-0.1) (lumi) pb, which is consistent with the Standard Model prediction of 6.6(-0.6)(+0.7) pb. The di ff erential cross sections in bins of various kinematic variables are presented. The differential event yield as a function of the transverse momentum of the leading Z boson is used to set limits on anomalous neutral triple gauge boson couplings in ZZ production.

Abstract: We compute the top quark right coupling in the aligned two-Higgs-doublet model. In the Standard Model the real part of this coupling is dominated by QCD-gluon-exchange diagram, but the imaginary part, instead, is purely electroweak at one loop. Within this model we show that values for the imaginary part of the coupling up to one order of magnitude larger than the electroweak prediction can be obtained. For the real part of the electroweak contribution we find that it can be of the order of 2 x 10(4). We also present detailed results of the one loop analytical computation.
