Abstract |
The first amplitude analysis of the B-+/- -> pi(K+K-)-K-+/- decay is reported based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) of pp collisions recorded in 2011 and 2012 with the LHCb detector. The data are found to be best described by a coherent sum of five resonant structures plus a nonresonant component and a contribution from pi pi <-> KK S-wave rescattering. The dominant contributions in the pi(+/-) K(-/+ )and K+ K- systems are the nonresonant and the B-+/- -> rho(1450)(0)pi(+/-) amplitudes, respectively, with fit fractions around 30%. For the rescattering contribution, a sizable fit fraction is observed. This component has the largest CP asymmetry reported to date for a single amplitude of (-66 +/- 4 +/- 2)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. No significant CP violation is observed in the other contributions. |

Abstract |
A search for the lepton-flavor violating decays B+ -> K+ mu(+/-)e(-/+) is performed using a sample of proton-proton collision data, collected with the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1). No significant signal is observed, and upper limits on the branching fractions are set as B(B+ -> K+ mu(+/-)e(+)) < 7.0(95) x 10(-9) and B(B+ -> K+ mu(+/- )e(-)) < 6.4(8.8) x 10(-9) at 90% (95)% confidence level. The results improve the current best limits on these decays by more than one order of magnitude. |

Abstract |
Observations are reported of different sources of CP violation from an amplitude analysis of B+ -> pi(+)pi(+)pi(-) decays, based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1) of pp collisions recorded with the LHCb detector. A large CP asymmetry is observed in the decay amplitude involving the tensor f(2)(1270) resonance, and in addition significant CP violation is found in the pi(+)pi S- wave at low invariant mass. The presence of CP violation related to interference between the pi(+)pi S- wave and the P wave B+ -> rho(770)(0)pi(+) amplitude is also established; this causes large local asymmetries but cancels when integrated over the phase space of the decay. The results provide both qualitative and quantitative new insights into CP -violation effects in hadronic B decays. |

Abstract |
We analyze the spectrum of two- and three-pion states of maximal isospin obtained recently for isosymmetric QCD with pion mass M approximate to 200 MeV in Horz and Hanlon, [Phys. Rev. Lett. 123, 142002 (2019)]. Using the relativistic three-particle quantization condition, we find similar to 2 sigma evidence for a nonzero value for the contact part of the 3 pi(+) (I = 3) scattering amplitude. We also compare our results to leading-order chiral perturbation theory. We find good agreement at threshold and some tension in the energy dependent part of the 3 pi(+) scattering amplitude. We also find that the 2 pi(+) (I = 2) spectrum is fit well by an s-wave phase shift that incorporates the expected Adler zero. |

Abstract |
A search for magnetic monopoles and high-electric-charge objects is presented using 34.4 fb(-1) of 13 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2015 and 2016. The considered signature is based upon high ionization in the transition radiation tracker of the inner detector associated with a pencil-shape energy deposit in the electromagnetic calorimeter. The data were collected by a dedicated trigger based on the tracker high-threshold hit capability. The results are interpreted in models of Drell-Yan pair production of stable particles with two spin hypotheses (0 and 1/2) and masses ranging from 200 to 4000 GeV. The search improves by approximately a factor of 5 the constraints on the direct production of magnetic monopoles carrying one or two Dirac magnetic charges and stable objects with electric charge in the range 20 <= vertical bar z vertical bar <= 60 and extends the charge range to 60 < vertical bar z vertical bar <= 100. |
