Title Energy and width of a narrow I=1/2 DNN quasibound state Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
  Volume (down) 86 Issue 4 Pages 044004 - 16pp
  Keywords
Abstract The energies and widths of DNN quasibound states with isospin I = 1/2 are evaluated in two methods, the fixed center approximation to the Faddeev equation and the variational method approach to the effective one-channel Hamiltonian. The DN interactions are constructed so they dynamically generate the Lambda(c)(2595) (I = 0, J(pi) = 1/2(-)) resonance state. We find that the system is bound by about 250 MeV from the DNN threshold, root s similar to 3500 MeV. Its width, including both the mesonic decay and the D absorption, is estimated to be about 20-40 MeV. The I = 0 DN pair in the DNN system is found to form a cluster that is similar to the Lambda(c)(2595).

Title Strategy to find the two Lambda (1405) states from lattice QCD simulations Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
  Volume (down) 86 Issue 5 Pages 055201 - 13pp

Abstract Theoretical studies within the chiral unitary approach, and recent experiments, have provided evidence of the existence of two isoscalar states in the region of the Lambda(1405). In this paper we use the same chiral approach to generate energy levels in a finite box. In a second step, assuming that these energies correspond to lattice QCD results, we devise the best strategy of analysis to obtain the two states in the infinite-volume case, with sufficient precision to distinguish them. We find out that by using energy levels obtained with asymmetric boxes and/or with a moving frame, with reasonable errors in the energies, one has a successful scheme to get the two Lambda(1405) poles.

Title High-spin structure in K-40 Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
  Volume (down) 86 Issue 5 Pages 054320 - 9pp
  Keywords
Abstract High-spin states of K-40 have been populated in the fusion-evaporation reaction C-12(Si-30,np)K-40 and studied by means of gamma-ray spectroscopy techniques using one triple-cluster detector of the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array at the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. Several states with excitation energy up to 8 MeV and spin up to 10(-) have been discovered. These states are discussed in terms of J = 3 and T = 0 neutron-proton hole pairs. Shell-model calculations in a large model space have shown good agreement with the experimental data for most of the energy levels. The evolution of the structure of this nucleus is here studied as a function of excitation energy and angular momentum.

Title Branching ratios of mesonic and nonmesonic antikaon absorptions in the nuclear medium Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
  Volume (down) 86 Issue 6 Pages 065205 - 17pp
  Keywords
Abstract The branching ratios of K- absorption in nuclear matter are theoretically investigated in order to understand the mechanism of K- absorption into nuclei. For this purpose mesonic and nonmesonic absorption potentials are evaluated as functions of nuclear density, the kaon momentum, and energy from one- and two-body K- self-energy, respectively. By using a chiral unitary approach for the s-wave (K) over bar N amplitude we find that both the mesonic and nonmesonic absorption potentials are dominated by the Lambda(1405) contributions. The fraction of the mesonic and nonmesonic absorptions are evaluated to be respectively about 70% and 30% at the saturation density almost independently of the kaon momentum. We also observe different behavior of the branching ratios to pi(+)Sigma(-) and pi(-)Sigma(+) channels in mesonic absorption due to the interference between Lambda(1405) and the I = 1 nonresonant background, which is consistent with experimental results. The nonmesonic absorption ratios [Lambda p]/[Sigma(0)p] and [Lambda n]/[Sigma(0)n] are about unity while [Sigma(+)n]/[Sigma(0)p] and [Sigma(-) p]/[Sigma(0)n] are about 2 due to the Lambda(1405) dominance in absorption. Taking into account the kaon momenta and energies, the absorption potentials become weaker due to the downward shift of the initial K- N two-body energy, but this does not drastirally change the nonmesonic fraction. The Sigma(1385) contribution in the p-wave (K) over bar N amplitude is examined and found to be very small compared to the Lambda(1405) contribution in slow K- absorption.

Title Stabilization of prolate deformation at high spin in Kr-75 Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
  Volume (down) 86 Issue 6 Pages 064310 - 16pp
  Keywords
Abstract The neutron-deficient nucleus Kr-75 has been studied in two EUROBALL experiments. The analysis yielded a considerably extended level scheme including two newly observed excited high spin bands. The results are interpreted in the framework of the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky approach. The calculations compare well to the experimentally established level scheme and predict the nucleus to be mainly prolate or triaxially deformed at high spin. Evidence for an oblate-prolate shape coexistence could not be found at high spin.

Abstract We explore the interplay between renormalization, charge independence and charge symmetry breaking (CIB and CSB) in S-wave nucleon-nucleon scattering. The renormalizability requirement generates universality functions, that is, correlations between the low-energy scattering observables in the neutron-neutron, neutron-proton, and proton-proton systems. The universality functions only depend on the (known) form of the nucleon-nucleon potential at long distances and, in particular, they do not require any assumptions about short-range CIB and CSB effects. In addition, the inclusion of Coulomb effects is trivial for the particular case of proton-proton scattering, allowing us to relate strong and Coulomb scattering observables. Within this approach, and using a one-boson-exchange potential, the previous correlations are shown to be phenomenologically satisfied without the need to introduce further parameters.

Abstract The anti-D meson self-energy is evaluated self-consistently, using unitarized coupled-channel theory, by computing the in-medium meson-baryon T matrix in the C = -1, S = 0 sector. The heavy pseudo-scalar and heavy vector mesons, (D) over bar and (D) over bar*, are treated on equal footing as required by heavy-quark spin symmetry. Results for energy levels and widths of (D) over bar (-) mesic atoms in C-12, Ca-40, Sn-118, and Pb-208 are presented. The spectrum contains states of atomic and of nuclear types for all nuclei. (D) over bar (0)-nucleus bound states are also obtained. We find that, after electromagnetic and nuclear cascade, these systems end up with the (D) over bar bound in the nucleus, either as a meson or as part of an exotic (D) over barN (pentaquark) loosely bound state.

Title Discovery of a new isomeric state in Ni-68: Evidence for a highly deformed proton intruder state Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C

Abstract We report on the observation of a new isomeric state in Ni-68. We suggest that the newly observed state at 168(1) keV above the first 2(+) state is a pi(2p-2h) 0(+) state across the major Z = 28 shell gap. Comparison with theoretical calculations indicates a pure proton intruder configuration and the deduced low-lying structure of this key nucleus suggests a possible shape coexistence scenario involving a highly deformed state.

Title Multiple beta(-) decaying states in Re-194: Shape evolution in neutron-rich osmium isotopes Type Journal Article

Abstract beta decays from heavy, neutron-rich nuclei with A similar to 190 have been investigated following their production via the relativistic projectile fragmentation of an E/A = 1 GeV Pb-208 primary beam on a similar to 2.5 g/cm(2) Be-9 target. The reaction products were separated and identified using the GSI FRagment Separator (FRS) and stopped in the RISING active stopper. gamma decays were observed and correlated with these secondary ions on an event-by-event basis such that gamma-ray transitions following from both internal (isomeric) and beta decays were recorded. A number of discrete, beta-delayed gamma-ray transitions associated with beta decays from Re-194 to excited states in Os-194 have been observed, including previously reported decays from the yrast I-pi = (6(+)) state. Three previously unreported gamma-ray transitions with energies 194, 349, and 554 keV are also identified; these transitions are associated with decays from higher spin states in Os-194. The results of these investigations are compared with theoretical predictions from Nilsson multi-quasiparticle (MQP) calculations. Based on lifetime measurements and the observed feeding pattern to states in Os-194, it is concluded that there are three beta(-)-decaying states in Re-194.

Title Shape isomerism and shape coexistence effects on the Coulomb energy differences in the N = Z nucleus As-66 and neighboring T=1 multiplets Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C

  Keywords
Abstract Excited states of the N = Z = 33 nucleus As-66 have been populated in a fusion-evaporation reaction and studied using gamma-ray spectroscopic techniques. Special emphasis was put into the search for candidates for the T = 1 states. A new 3(+) isomer has been observed with a lifetime of 1.1(3) ns. This is believed to be the predicted oblate shape isomer. The excited levels are discussed in terms of the shell model and of the complex excited Vampir approaches. Coulomb energy differences are determined from the comparison of the T = 1 states with their analog partners. The unusual behavior of the Coulomb energy differences in the A = 70 mass region is explained through different shape components (oblate and prolate) within the members of the same isospin multiplets. This breaking of the isospin symmetry is attributed to the correlations induced by the Coulomb interaction.
