Title Updated search for long-lived particles decaying to jet pairs Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
Volume (up) 77 Issue 12 Pages 812 - 14pp
Keywords
Abstract A search is presented for long-lived particles with a mass between 25 and 50 GeV/c(2) and a lifetime between 2 and 500 ps, using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The particles are assumed to be pair-produced in the decay of a 125 GeV/c(2) Standard-Model-like Higgs boson. The experimental signature is a single long-lived particle, identified by a displaced vertex with two associated jets. No excess above background is observed and limits are set on the production cross-section as a function of the mass and lifetime of the long-lived particle.

Title Studies of the resonance structure in D-0 -> K-/+ pi(+/-) pi(+/-) pi(-/+) decays Type Journal Article
Year 2018 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
Volume (up) 78 Issue 6 Pages 443 - 31pp
Keywords
Abstract Amplitude models are constructed to describe the resonance structure of D-0 -> K-pi(+) pi(+) pi(-) and D-0 -> K+ pi(-)pi(-)pi(+) decays using pp collision data collected at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV with the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 f b(-1). The largest contributions to both decay amplitudes are found to come from axial resonances, with decay modes D-0 -> a(1)(1260)(+) K- and D-0 -> K-1(1270/1400)(+)pi(-) being prominent in D-0 -> K-pi(+) pi(+) pi(-) and D-0 -> K+pi(-)pi(-)pi(+), respectively. Precise measurements of the lineshape parameters and couplings of the a(1)(1260)(+), K-1(1270)(-) and K(1460)(-) resonances are made, and a quasi model-independent study of the K(1460)(-) resonance is performed. The coherence factor of the decays is calculated from the amplitude models to be R-K3 pi = 0.459 +/- 0.010 (stat) +/- 0.012 (syst) +/- 0.020 (model), which is consistent with direct measurements. These models will be useful in future measurements of the unitary-triangle angle gamma and studies of charm mixing and CP violation.

Title Measurements of CP asymmetries in charmless four-body Lambda(0)(b) and Xi(0)(b) decays Type Journal Article
Year 2019 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
Volume (up) 79 Issue 9 Pages 745 - 19pp
Keywords
Abstract Asearch for CP violation in charmless four-body decays of Lambda(0)(b) and Xi(0)(b) baryons with a proton and three charged mesons in the final state is performed. To cancel out production and detection charge-asymmetry effects, the search is carried out by measuring the difference between the CP asymmetries in a charmless decay and in a decay with an intermediate charmed baryon with the same particles in the final state. The data sample used was recorded in 2011 and 2012 with the LHCb detector and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1). A total of 18 CP asymmetries are considered, either accounting for the full phase space of the decays or exploring specific regions of the decay kinematics. No significant CP-violation effect is observed in any of the measurements.

Abstract The decay B-c(+) -> psi(2S)pi(+) with psi(2S) -> mu(+)mu(-) is observed with a significance of 5.2 sigma using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment. The branching fraction of B-c(+) -> psi(2S)pi(+) decays relative to that of the B-c(+) -> J/psi pi(+) mode is measured to be B(B-c(+) -> psi(2S)pi(+))/B(B-c(+) -> J/psi pi(+)) = 0.250 +/- 0.068(stat) +/- 0.014(syst) +/- 0.006(B). The last term is the uncertainty on the ratio B(psi(2S) -> mu(+)mu(-))/B(J/psi -> mu(+)mu(-)).

Title Search for the decay B-s(0) -> D*(-/+)pi(+/-) Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume (up) 87 Issue 7 Pages 071101 - 8pp
Keywords
Abstract A search for the decay B-s(0) -> D*(-/+)pi(+/-) is presented using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb(-1) of pp collisions collected by LHCb. This decay is expected to be mediated by a W-exchange diagram, with little contribution from rescattering processes, and therefore a measurement of the branching fraction will help us to understand the mechanism behind related decays such as B-s(0) -> pi(+)pi(-) and B-s(0) -> D (D) over bar. Systematic uncertainties are minimized by using B-0 -> D*(-/+)pi(+/-) as a normalization channel. We find no evidence for a signal, and set an upper limit on the branching fraction of B(B-s(0) -> D*(-/+)pi(+/-) < 6.1(7.8) x 10(-6) at 90% (95%) confidence level.

Abstract First observations and measurements of the branching fractions of the (B) over bar (0)(s) -> D+D-, (B) over bar (0)(s) -> Ds+D- and (B) over bar (0)(s) -> D-0(D) over bar (0) decays are presented using 1.0 fb(-1) of data collected by the LHCb experiment. These branching fractions are normalized to those of (B) over bar (0) -> D+D-, B-0 -> D-Ds+ and B- -> (DDs-)-D-0, respectively. An excess of events consistent with the decay (B) over bar (0) -> D-0(D) over bar (0) is also seen, and its branching fraction is measured relative to that of B- -> D0Ds-. Improved measurements of the branching fractions B((B) over bar (0)(s) -> Ds+Ds-) and B(B- -> (DDs-)-D-0) are reported, each relative to B(B-0 -> D-Ds+). The ratios of branching fractions are B((B) over bar (0)(s) -> D+D-)/B((B) over bar (0) -> D+D-) = 1.08 +/- 0.20 +/- 0.10, B((B) over bar (0)(s) -> Ds+D-)/B(B-0 -> D-Ds+) = 0.050 +/- 0.008 +/- 0.004, B((B) over bar (0)(s) -> D-0(D) over bar (0))/B((B) over bar (-) -> (DDs-)-D-0) = 0.019 +/- 0.003 +/- 0.003, B((B) over bar (0) -> D-0(D) over bar (0))/B(B- -> (DDs-)-D-0) < 0.0024 at 90% CL, B(<(B)over bar>(0)(s) -> D-s(+)(D) over bar (-)(s))/B(B-0 -> D-Ds+) = 0.56 +/- 0.03 +/- 0.04, B(B -> (DDs)-D-0)/B(B-0 -> D-Ds+) = 1.22 +/- 0.02 +/- 0.07, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Abstract The decays B-c(+) -> J/ psi D-s(+) and B-c(+) -> J/ psi D-s*(+) are observed for the first time using a dataset, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of root s = 7 and 8 TeV. The statistical significance for both signals is in excess of 9 standard deviations. The following ratios of branching fractions are measured to be 'B(B-c(+) -> J/ psi D-s(+))/B(B-c(+) -> J/ psi pi(+)) = 2.90 +/- 0.57 +/- 0.24, B(B-c(+) -> J/psi D-s*(+))/B(B-c(+) -> J/ psi D-s(+)) = 2.37 +/- 0.56 +/- 0.10, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Abstract The time-dependent CP asymmetry in B-s(0) -> J/psi K+ K- decays is measured using pp collision data at root s = 7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1: 0 fb(-1), collected with the LHCb detector. The decay-time distribution is characterized by the decay widths Gamma(L) and Gamma(H) of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the B-s(0) – (B) over barB(s)(0) system and by a CP-violating phase s. In a sample of 27 617 B-s(0) -> J/psi K+ K- decays, where the dominant contribution comes from B-s(0) -> J/psi K+ K- decays, these parameters are measured to be phi(s) = 0. 07 +/- 0.09(stat) +/- 0. 01(syst) rad, Gamma(s) equivalent to (Gamma(L) + Gamma(L))/2 = 0.663 +/- 0.005(stat) +/- 0.006(syst) ps(-1), and 0.006(syst) ps(-1), and Delta Gamma(s) equivalent to Gamma(L) – Gamma(L) = 0.100 +/- 0.016(stat) +/- 0.003(syst) ps(-1), corresponding to the single most precise determination of phi(s), Delta Gamma(s), and Gamma(s.). The result of performing a combined analysis with B-s(0) -> J/psi pi(+) pi(-) decays gives phi(s) = 0.01 +/- 0.07(stat) +/- 0.01(syst)rad, Gamma(s) = 0.661 +/- 0.004(stat) +/- 0.006(syst) ps(-1), and Delta Gamma(s) = 0.106 +/- 0.011(stat) +/- 0.007(syst) ps(-1). All measurements are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions.

Abstract Structure of the decay B0s. J=.pp- is studied using data corresponding to 3 fb- 1 of integrated luminosity from pp collisions produced by the LHC and collected by the LHCb detector. Five interfering pp- states are required to describe the decay: F-0(980), F-0(1500), F-0(1790), F-2 (1270) and F-2(1525) An alternative model including these states and a nonresonant J=.pp- component also provides a good description of the data. Based on the different transversity components measured for the spin- 2 intermediate states, the final state is found to be compatible with being entirely CP odd. The CP- even part is found to be < 2.3% at a 95% confidence level. The f 0d500 state is not observed, allowing a limit to be set on the absolute value of the mixing angle with the f 0d980 of < 7.7 at a 90% confidence level, consistent with a tetraquark interpretation of the f(0)(980) substructure.
