Abstract |
Results are reported from an amplitude analysis of the B+ -> D+D-K+ decay. The analysis is carried out using LHCb proton-proton collision data taken at root s = 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1). In order to obtain a good description of the data, it is found to be necessary to include new spin-0 and spin-1 resonances in the D-K+ channel with masses around 2.9 GeV/c(2), and a new spin-0 charmonium resonance in proximity to the spin-2 chi(c2)(3930) state. |

Abstract |
Using a proton-proton collision data sample collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.5 fb(-1), the observation of a new excited Xi(0)(b) resonance decaying to the Xi(-)(b)pi(+) final state is presented. The state, referred to as Xi(b) (6227)(0), has a measured mass and natural width of m(Xi(b)(6227)(0)) = 6227.1(-1.5)(+1.4) +/- 0.5 MeV and Gamma(Xi(b)(6227)(0)) = 18.6(-4.1)(+5.0) +/- 1.4 MeV, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic. The production rate of the Xi(b)(6227)(0) state relative to that of the Xi(-)(b) baryon in the kinematic region 2 < eta < 5 and p(T) < 30 GeV is measured to be f(Xi b(6227)0)/f(Xi b)(-) B(Xi(b)(6227)(0) -> Xi(-)(b)pi(+)) = 0.045 +/- 0.008 +/- 0.004, where B(Xi(b)(6227)(0) -> Xi(-)(b)pi(+)) is the branching fraction of the decay, and f(Xi b(6227)0) and f(Xi b-) represent fragmentation fractions. Improved measurements of the mass and natural width of the previously observedf Xi(b)(6227)(-) state, along with the mass of the Xi(-)(b) baryon, are also reported. Both measurements are significantly more precise than, and consistent with, previously reported values. |

Abstract |
We study the processes e(+)e(-) -> 2(pi(+)pi(-))pi(0)pi(0)pi(0)gamma and 2(pi(+)pi(-))pi(0)pi(0)eta gamma in which an energetic photon is radiated from the initial state. The data were collected with the BABAR detector at SLAC. About 14 000 and 4700 events, respectively, are selected from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 469 fb(-1). The invariant mass of the hadronic final state defines the effective e(+)e(-) center-of-mass energy. The center-of-mass energies range from threshold to 4.5 GeV. From the mass spectra, the first ever measurements of the e(+)e(-) -> 2(pi(+)pi(-))pi(0)pi(0)pi(0) and the e(+)e(-) -> 2(pi(+)pi(-))pi(0)pi(0)eta cross sections are performed. The contributions from omega pi(+)pi(-)pi(0)pi(0), eta 2(pi(+)pi(-)), and other intermediate states are presented. We observe the J/psi and psi(2S) in most of these final states and measure the corresponding branching fractions, many of them for the first time. |

Abstract |
Electromagnetic dipole moments of short-lived particles are sensitive to physics within and beyond the Standard Model of particle physics but have not been accessible experimentally to date. To perform such measurements it has been proposed to exploit the spin precession of channeled particles in bent crystals at the LHC. Progress that enables the first measurement of charm baryon dipole moments is reported. In particular, the design and characterization on beam of silicon and germanium bent crystal prototypes, the optimization of the experimental setup, and advanced analysis techniques are discussed. Sensitivity studies show that first measurements of Lambda(+)(c) and Xi(+)(c) baryon dipole moments can he performed in two years of data taking with an experimental setup positioned upstream of the LHCb detector. |

Abstract |
This article reports the first measurement of prompt chi(c1) and chi(c2) charmonium production in nuclear collisions at Large Hadron Collider energies. The cross-section ratio sigma(chi(c2))/sigma(chi(c1)) is measured in pPb collisions at root s(NN) = 8.16 TeV, collected with the LHCb experiment. The chi(c1,2) states are reconstructed via their decay to a J/psi meson, subsequently decaying into a pair of oppositely charged muons, and a photon, which is reconstructed in the calorimeter or via its conversion in the detector material. The cross-section ratio is consistent with unity in the two considered rapidity regions. Comparison with a corresponding cross-section ratio previously measured by the LHCb Collaboration in pp collisions suggests that chi(c1) and chi(c2) states are similarly affected by nuclear effects occurring in pPb collisions. |

Abstract |
The ratio R-tau mu(Y(1S)) = Gamma Y(1S)->tau(+)tau(-)/Gamma(+)(-)(Y(1S)->mu)(mu) is measured using a sample of (121.8 +/- 1.2) x 10(6)Y(3S) events recorded by the BABAR detector. This measurement is intended as a test of lepton universality and as a search for a possible light pseudoscalar Higgs boson. In the standard model (SM) this ratio is expected to be close to 1. Any significant deviations would violate lepton universality and could be introduced by the coupling to a light pseudoscalar Higgs boson. The analysis studies the decays Y(3S) -> Y(1S)pi(+)pi(-), Y(1S) -> l(+)l(-), where l = mu, tau. The result, R-tau μ(Y(1S)) = 1.005 +/- 0.013(stat) +/- 0.022(syst), shows no deviation from the expected SM value, while improving the precision with respect to previous measurements. |

Abstract |
Charged-lepton flavor-violating processes are unobservable in the standard model, but they are predicted to be enhanced in several extensions to the standard model, including supersymmetry and models with leptoquarks or compositeness. We present a search for such processes in a sample of 99 x 10(6)Gamma(2S) decays and 117 x 10(6)Gamma(3S) decays collected with the BABAR detector. We place upper limits on the branching fractions B(Gamma(nS) --> e(+/-)tau(-/+)) and B(Gamma(n(S) --> mu(+/-)tau(-/+)) (n = 2, 3) at the 10(-6) level and use these results to place lower limits of order 1 TeV on the mass scale of charged-lepton flavor-violating effective operators. |

Abstract |
We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element vertical bar V-cb vertical bar and the form-factor slope rho(2) in (B) over bar -> Dl(-) (nu) over bar (l) decays based on 460 X 10(6) B (B) over bar events recorded at the Gamma(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. (B) over bar -> Dl(-) (nu) over bar (l) decays are selected in events in which a hadronic decay of the second B meson is fully reconstructed. We measure B(B- -> D(0)l(-) (nu) over bar (l))/B(B- -> Xl(-) (nu) over bar (l)) = (0.255 +/- 0.009 +/- 0.009) and B((B) over bar (0) -> D(+)l(-) (nu) over bar (l))/B((B) over bar (0) -> Xl(-) (nu) over bar (l)) = (0.230 +/- 0.011 +/- 0.011), along with the differential decay distribution in (B) over bar -> Dl(-) (nu) over bar (l) decays. We then determine G(1)vertical bar V-cb vertical bar = 42.3 +/- 1.9 +/- 1.4) X 10(-3) and rho(2) = 1.20 +/- 0.09 +/- 0.04, where G(1) is the hadronic form factor at the point of zero recoil. |

Abstract |
Searches for lepton-flavor-violating decays of a tau lepton to a lighter mass lepton and a photon have been performed with the entire data set of (963 +/- 7) x 10(6) tau decays collected by the BABAR detector near the Y(4S), Y(3S) and Y(2S) resonances. The searches yield no evidence of signals and we set upper limits on the branching fractions of B(tau(+/-) -> e(+/-)gamma) < 3.3 X 10(-8) and B(tau(+/-) -> mu(+/-)gamma) < 4.4 X 10(-8) at 90% confidence level. |

Abstract |
The ratio of the B-s(0) and B-0 fragmentation fractions, f(s)/f(d), in proton-proton collisions at the LHC, is obtained as a function of B-meson transverse momentum and collision center-of-mass energy from the combined analysis of different B-decay channels measured by the LHCb experiment. The results are described by a linear function of the meson transverse momentum or with a function inspired by Tsallis statistics. Precise measurements of the branching fractions of the B-s(0) -> J/psi phi and B-s(0)-> D-s(-)pi(+) decays are performed, reducing their uncertainty by about a factor of 2 with respect to previous world averages. Numerous B-s(0) decay branching fractions, measured at the LHCb experiment, are also updated using the new values of f(s)/f(d) and branching fractions of normalization channels. These results reduce a major source of systematic uncertainty in several searches for new physics performed through measurements of B-s(0) branching fractions. |
