Abstract: A study of the charge conjugation and parity (CP) properties of the interaction between the Higgs boson and tau -leptons is presented. The study is based on a measurement of CP-sensitive angular observables defined by the visible decay products of t -leptons produced in Higgs boson decays. The analysis uses 139 fb(-1) of proton-proton collision data recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Contributions from CP-violating interactions between the Higgs boson and t -leptons are described by a single mixing angle parameter phi(tau) in the generalised Yukawa interaction. Without constraining the H -> tau tau signal strength to its expected value under the Standard Model hypothesis, the mixing angle ft is measured to be 9 degrees +/- 16 degrees, with an expected value of 0 degrees +/- 28 degrees at the 68% confidence level. The pure CPodd hypothesis is disfavoured at a level of 3.4 standard deviations. The results are compatible with the predictions for the Higgs boson in the Standard Model.

Abstract: A search for supersymmetry involving the pair production of gluinos decaying via off-shell third-generation squarks into the lightest neutralino ((chi) over tilde (0)(1)) is reported. It exploits LHC proton-proton collision data at a centre-ofmass energy root s = 13 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1) collected with the ATLAS detector from 2015 to 2018. The search uses events containing large missing transverse momentum, up to one electron or muon, and several energetic jets, at least three of which must be identified as containing b-hadrons. Both a simple kinematic event selection and an event selection based upon a deep neural network are used. No significant excess above the predicted background is found. In simplified models involving the pair production of gluinos that decay via off-shell top (bottom) squarks, gluino masses less than 2.44 TeV (2.35 TeV) are excluded at 95% CL for a massless (chi) over tilde (0)(1). Limits are also set on the gluino mass in models with variable branching ratios for gluino decays to b (b) over bar (chi) over tilde (0)(1), t (t) over bar (chi) over tilde (0)(1) and t (b) over bar (chi) over tilde (-)(iota) / (t) over barb (chi) over tilde (0)(1).

Abstract: A search for pair-produced vector-like quarks using events with exactly one lepton (e or mu), at least four jets including at least one b-tagged jet, and large missing transverse momentum is presented. Data from proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of root s =13 TeV, recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC from 2015 to 2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1), are analysed. Vector-like partners T and B of the top and bottom quarks are considered, as is a vector-like X with charge +5/3, assuming their decay into a W, Z, or Higgs boson and a third-generation quark. No significant deviations from the Standard Model expectation are observed. Upper limits on the production cross-section of T and B quark pairs as a function of their mass are derived for various decay branching ratio scenarios. The strongest lower limits on the masses are 1.59 TeV assuming mass-degenerate vector-like quarks and branching ratios corresponding to the weak-isospin doublet model, and 1.47 TeV (1.46 TeV) for exclusive T -> Zt (B/X -> Wt) decays. In addition, lower limits on the T and B quark masses are derived for all possible branching ratios.

Abstract: Background: The 14N(n, p) 14C reaction is of interest in neutron capture therapy, where nitrogen-related dose is the main component due to low-energy neutrons, and in astrophysics, where 14N acts as a neutron poison in the s process. Several discrepancies remain between the existing data obtained in partial energy ranges: thermal energy, keV region, and resonance region. Purpose: We aim to measure the 14N(n, p) 14C cross section from thermal to the resonance region in a single measurement for the first time, including characterization of the first resonances, and provide calculations of Maxwellian averaged cross sections (MACS). Method: We apply the time-of-flight technique at Experimental Area 2 (EAR-2) of the neutron time-of-flight (n_TOF) facility at CERN. 10B(n, & alpha;) 7Li and 235U(n, f ) reactions are used as references. Two detection systems are run simultaneously, one on beam and another off beam. Resonances are described with the R-matrix code SAMMY. Results: The cross section was measured from subthermal energy to 800 keV, resolving the first two resonances (at 492.7 and 644 keV). A thermal cross section was obtained (1.809 & PLUSMN; 0.045 b) that is lower than the two most recent measurements by slightly more than one standard deviation, but in line with the ENDF/B-VIII.0 and JEFF-3.3 evaluations. A 1/v energy dependence of the cross section was confirmed up to tens of keV neutron energy. The low energy tail of the first resonance at 492.7 keV is lower than suggested by evaluated values, while the overall resonance strength agrees with evaluations. Conclusions: Our measurement has allowed determination of the 14N(n, p) cross section over a wide energy range for the first time. We have obtained cross sections with high accuracy (2.5%) from subthermal energy to 800 keV and used these data to calculate the MACS for kT = 5 to kT = 100 keV.

Abstract: A search for K0S(L)→μ+μ−μ+μ− decays is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.1 fb−1. No evidence for signal is found. The 90% confidence level upper limits are the first set for both decays and are B(K0S→μ+μ−μ+μ−)<5.1×10−12 and B(K0L→μ+μ−μ+μ−)<2.3×10−9.

Abstract: In this work, we study the thermodynamic properties on a non-commutative background via gravitational gauge field potentials. This procedure is accomplished after contracting de Sitter (dS) group, SO(4, 1), with the Poincare group, ISO(3, 1). Particularly, we focus on a static spherically symmetric black hole. In this manner, we calculate the modified Hawking temperature and the other deformed thermal state quantities, namely, entropy, heat capacity, Helmholtz free energy and pressure. Finally, we also investigate the black hole evaporation process in such a context.

Abstract: Resonant contributions in B0 & RARR; over bar D0D+s & pi;- and B+ & RARR; D-D+s & pi;+ decays are determined with an amplitude analysis, which is performed both separately and simultaneously, where in the latter case isospin symmetry between the decays is assumed. The analysis is based on data collected by the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The full data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb-1. A doubly charged spin-0 open-charm tetraquark candidate together with a neutral partner, both with masses near 2.9 GeV, are observed in the Ds & pi; decay channel.

Abstract: A combined amplitude analysis is performed for the decays B0-+ D0D thorn s & pi;- and B thorn -+ D-D thorn s & pi; thorn , which are related by isospin symmetry. The analysis is based on data collected by the LHCb detector in proton -proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The full data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb-1. Two new resonant states with masses of 2.908 ⠂ 0.011 ⠂ 0.020 GeV and widths of 0.136 ⠂ 0.023 ⠂ 0.013 GeV are observed, which decay to D thorn s & pi; thorn and D thorn s & pi;- respectively. The former state indicates the first observation of a doubly charged open-charm tetraquark state with minimal quark content 1/2cs over bar ud over bar ⠃, and the latter state is a neutral tetraquark composed of 1/2cs over bar u over bar d ⠃ quarks. Both states are found to have spin-parity of 0 thorn , and their resonant parameters are consistent with each other, which suggests that they belong to an isospin triplet.

Abstract: We reexamine the regularization of the two-point function of a scalar field in a Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) spacetime. Adiabatic regularization provides a set of subtraction terms in momentum space that successfully remove its ultraviolet divergences at coincident points, but can significantly distort the power spectrum at infrared scales, especially for light fields. In this work we propose, by using the intrinsic ambiguities of the renormalization program, a new set of subtraction terms that minimize the distortions for scales k less than or similar to M, with M an arbitrary mass scale. Our method is consistent with local covariance and equivalent to general regularization methods in curved spacetime. We apply our results to the regularization of the power spectrum in de Sitter space: while the adiabatic scheme yields exactly Delta((reg))(phi) = 0 for a massless field, our proposed prescription recovers the standard scale-invariant result Delta((reg))(phi) similar or equal to H-2/(4 pi(2)) at super-horizon scales.

Abstract: The exclusive production of pion pairs in the process pp -> pp pi(+)pi(-) has been measured at root s = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, using 80 μb(-1) of low-luminosity data. The pion pairs were detected in the ATLAS central detector while outgoing protons were measured in the forwardATLASALFAdetector system. This represents the first use of proton tagging to measure an exclusive hadronic final state at the LHC. Across-sectionmeasurement is performed in two kinematic regions defined by the proton momenta, the pion rapidities and transverse momenta, and the pion-pion invariant mass. Cross-section values of 4.8 +/- 1.0 (stat)(-0.2) (+0.3)(syst) μb and 9 +/- 6 (stat)(-2)(+2) (syst) μb are obtained in the two regions; they are compared with theoretical models and provide a demonstration of the feasibility of measurements of this type.
