Abstract: We report a measurement of the proton-air cross section for particle production at the center-of-mass energy per nucleon of 57 TeV. This is derived from the distribution of the depths of shower maxima observed with the Pierre Auger Observatory: systematic uncertainties are studied in detail. Analyzing the tail of the distribution of the shower maxima, a proton-air cross section of [505 +/- 22(stat)(-36)(+28)(syst)] mb is found.

Binosi, D., Ibañez, D., & Papavassiliou, J. (2012). All-order equation of the effective gluon mass. Phys. Rev. D, 86(8), 085033–21pp.
Abstract: We present the general derivation of the full nonperturbative equation that governs the momentum evolution of the dynamically generated gluon mass, in the Landau gauge. The entire construction hinges crucially on the inclusion of longitudinally coupled vertices containing massless poles of nonperturbative origin, which preserve the form of the fundamental Slavnov-Taylor identities of the theory. The mass equation is obtained from a previously unexplored version of the Schwinger-Dyson equation for the gluon propagator, particular to the pinch technique-background field method formalism, which involves a reduced number of two-loop dressed diagrams, thus simplifying the calculational task considerably. The two-loop contributions turn out to be of paramount importance, modifying the qualitative features of the full mass equation and enabling the emergence of physically meaningful solutions. Specifically, the resulting homogeneous integral equation is solved numerically, subject to certain approximations, for the entire range of physical momenta, yielding positive-definite and monotonically decreasing gluon masses.

Jung, M., Li, X. Q., & Pich, A. (2012). Exclusive radiative B-meson decays within the aligned two-Higgs-doublet model. J. High Energy Phys., 10(10), 063–33pp.
Abstract: In the aligned two-Higgs-doublet model, the alignment of Yukawa matrices in flavour space guarantees the absence of tree-level flavour-changing neutral currents, while allowing at the same time for new sources of CP violation, implying potentially large effects in many low-energy processes. In this work we study the constraints from exclusive radiative B -> V gamma decays, where V denotes a light vector meson. The current experimental data on the CP-averaged branching ratios and the direct CP and isospin asymmetries are analyzed. It is found that, while the branching ratios and direct CP asymmetries do not constrain the parameter space much further compared to the inclusive B -> X-s,X-d gamma decays, complementary constraints can be obtained from the isospin asymmetries Delta(K*gamma) and Delta(rho gamma). In addition, correlations between the various observables in exclusive B -> V gamma and inclusive B -> X-s,X-d gamma decays are investigated in detail, and predictions are made for several so far unmeasured observables.

Bordes, J., Dominguez, C. A., Moodley, P., Peñarrocha, J., & Schilcher, K. (2012). Corrections to the SU(3) x SU(3) Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner relation and chiral couplings L-8(r) and H-r(2). J. High Energy Phys., 10(10), 102–11pp.
Abstract: Next to leading order corrections to the SU(3) x SU(3) Gell-Mann-OakesRenner relation (GMOR) are obtained using weighted QCD Finite Energy Sum Rules (FESR) involving the pseudoscalar current correlator. Two types of integration kernels in the FESR are used to suppress the contribution of the kaon radial excitations to the hadronic spectral function, one with local and the other with global constraints. The result for the pseudoscalar current correlator at zero momentum is psi(5)(0) = (2.8 +/- 0.3) x 10(-3) GeV4, leading to the chiral corrections to GMOR: delta(K) = (55 +/- 5)%. The resulting uncertainties are mostly due to variations in the upper limit of integration in the FESR, within the stability regions, and to a much lesser extent due to the uncertainties in the strong coupling and the strange quark mass. Higher order quark mass corrections, vacuum condensates, and the hadronic resonance sector play a negligible role in this determination. These results confirm an independent determination from chiral perturbation theory giving also very large corrections, i.e. roughly an order of magnitude larger than the corresponding corrections in chiral SU(2) x SU(2). Combining these results with our previous determination of the corrections to GMOR in chiral SU(2) x SU(2), delta(pi), we are able to determine two low energy constants of chiral perturbation theory, i.e. L-8(r) = (1.0 +/- 0.3) x 10(-3), and H-2(r) = -(4.7 +/- 0.6) x 10(-3), both at the scale of the rho-meson mass.

Deppisch, F. F., Hirsch, M., & Pas, H. (2012). Neutrinoless double-beta decay and physics beyond the standard model. J. Phys. G, 39(12), 124007–23pp.
Abstract: Neutrinoless double-beta decay is the most powerful tool to probe not only for Majorana neutrino masses but for lepton number violating physics in general. We discuss relations between lepton number violation, double-beta decay and neutrino mass, review a general Lorentz-invariant parametrization of the double-beta decay rate, highlight a number of different new physics models showing how different mechanisms can trigger double-beta decay and, finally, discuss possibilities of discriminating and testing these models and mechanisms in complementary experiments.
