Title Transparency ratio in gamma A -> eta ' A ' and the in-medium eta ' width Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
Volume 710 Issue 4-5 Pages 600-606
Keywords
Abstract The photoproduction of eta'-mesons off different nuclei has been measured with the CBELSA/TAPS detector system for incident photon energies between 1500-2200 MeV. The transparency ratio has been deduced and compared to theoretical calculations describing the propagation of eta'-mesons in nuclei. The comparison indicates a width of the eta'-meson of the order of Gamma = 15-25 MeV at rho = rho(0) for an average momentum p(eta') = 1050 MeV/c, at which the eta'-meson is produced in the nuclear rest frame. The inelastic eta'N cross section is estimated to be 3-10 mb. Parameterizing the photoproduction cross section of eta'-mesons by sigma(A) = sigma(0)A(alpha), a value of alpha = 0.84 +/- 0.03 has been deduced.

Title Search for supersymmetry with jets, missing transverse momentum and at least one hadronically decaying tau lepton in proton-proton collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
Volume 714 Issue 2-5 Pages 197-214
Keywords Supersymmetry; GMSB; Tau lepton
Abstract A search for production of supersymmetric particles in final states containing jets, missing transverse momentum, and at least one hadronically decaying tau lepton is presented. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment in root s = 7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. No excess above the Standard Model background expectation was observed in 2.05 fb(-1) of data. The results are interpreted in the context of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models with M-mess = 250 TeV, N-5 = 3, μ> 0, and C-grav = 1. The production of supersymmetric particles is excluded at 95% C.L. up to a supersymmetry breaking scale Lambda = 30 TeV, independent of tan beta, and up to Lambda = 43 TeV for large tan beta.

Title Unquenching the gluon propagator with Schwinger-Dyson equations Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 86 Issue 1 Pages 014032 - 24pp
Keywords
Abstract In this article we use the Schwinger-Dyson equations to compute the nonperturbative modifications caused to the infrared finite gluon propagator (in the Landau gauge) by the inclusion of a small number of quark families. Our basic operating assumption is that the main bulk of the effect stems from the "one-loop dressed'' quark loop contributing to the full gluon self-energy. This quark loop is then calculated, using as basic ingredients the full quark propagator and quark-gluon vertex; for the quark propagator we use the solution obtained from the quark-gap equation, while for the vertex we employ suitable Ansatze, which guarantee the transversality of the answer. The resulting effect is included as a correction to the quenched gluon propagator, obtained in recent lattice simulations. Our main finding is that the unquenched propagator displays a considerable suppression in the intermediate momentum region, which becomes more pronounced as we increase the number of active quark families. The influence of the quarks on the saturation point of the propagator cannot be reliably computed within the present scheme; the general tendency appears to be to decrease it, suggesting a corresponding increase in the effective gluon mass. The renormalization properties of our results, and the uncertainties induced by the unspecified transverse part of the quark-gluon vertex, are discussed. Finally, the gluon propagator is compared with the available unquenched lattice data, showing rather good agreement.

Title Measurement of branching fractions and rate asymmetries in the rare decays B -> K((*))l(+)l(-) Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 86 Issue 3 Pages 032012 - 15pp

Abstract In a sample of 471 x 10(6) B (B) over bar events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e(+)e(-) collider we study the rare decays B -> K((*))l(+)l(-), where l(+)l(-) is either e(+)e(-) or mu(+)mu(-). We report results on partial branching fractions and isospin asymmetries in seven bins of dilepton mass-squared. We further present CP and lepton-flavor asymmetries for dilepton masses below and above the J/psi resonance. We find no evidence for CP or lepton-flavor violation. The partial branching fractions and isospin asymmetries are consistent with the Standard Model predictions and with results from other experiments.

Title Probing the neutrino mass hierarchy with Super-Kamiokande Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 10 Issue 10 Pages 086 - 14pp
Keywords Neutrino Physics; Beyond Standard Model
Abstract We show that for recently discovered large values of theta(13), a superbeam with an average neutrino energy of similar to 5 GeV, such as those being proposed at CERN, if pointing to Super-Kamiokande (L similar or equal to 8770 km), could reveal the neutrino mass hierarchy at 5 sigma in less than two years irrespective of the true hierarchy and CP phase. The measurement relies on the near resonant matter effect in the nu(mu) -> nu(e) oscillation channel, and can be done counting the total number of appearance events with just a neutrino beam.
