Title Edges and Endpoints in 21-cm Observations from Resonant Photon Production Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
  Volume 127 Issue 1 Pages 011102 - 7pp

Abstract We introduce a novel class of signatures-spectral edges and end points-in 21-cm measurements resulting from interactions between the standard and dark sectors. Within the context of a kinetically mixed dark photon, we demonstrate how resonant dark photon-to-photon conversions can imprint distinctive spectral features in the observed 21-cm brightness temperature, with implications for current, upcoming, and proposed experiments targeting the cosmic dawn and the dark ages. These signatures open up a qualitatively new way to look for physics beyond the Standard Model using 21-cm observations.

Title Trimaximal neutrino mixing from scotogenic A(4) family symmetry Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
  Volume 815 Issue Pages 136122 - 13pp
  Keywords
Abstract We propose a flavor theory of leptons implementing an A(4) family symmetry. Our scheme provides a simple way to derive trimaximal neutrino mixing from first principles, leading to simple and testable predictions for neutrino mixing and CP violation. Dark matter mediates neutrino mass generation, as in the simplest scotogenic model.

Title Optimisation of large-radius jet reconstruction for the ATLAS detector in 13 TeV proton-proton collisions Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
  Volume 81 Issue 4 Pages 334 - 47pp
  Keywords
Abstract Jet substructure has provided new opportunities for searches and measurements at the LHC, and has seen continuous development since the optimization of the large-radius jet definition used by ATLAS was performed during Run 1. A range of new inputs to jet reconstruction, pile-up mitigation techniques and jet grooming algorithms motivate an optimisation of large-radius jet reconstruction for ATLAS. In this paper, this optimisation procedure is presented, and the performance of a wide range of large-radius jet definitions is compared. The relative performance of these jet definitions is assessed using metrics such as their pileup stability, ability to identify hadronically decaying W bosons and top quarks with large transverse momenta. A new type of jet input object, called a 'unified flow object' is introduced which combines calorimeter- and inner-detector-based signals in order to achieve optimal performance across a wide kinematic range. Large-radius jet definitions are identified which significantly improve on the current ATLAS baseline definition, and their modelling is studied using pp collisions recorded by the ATLAS detector at TeV during 2017.

Title Search for signatures of sterile neutrinos with Double Chooz Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
  Volume 81 Issue 8 Pages 775 - 14pp
  Keywords
Abstract We present a search for signatures of neutrino mixing of electron anti-neutrinos with additional hypothetical sterile neutrino flavors using the Double Chooz experiment. The search is based on data from 5 years of operation of Double Chooz, including 2 years in the two-detector configuration. The analysis is based on a profile likelihood, i.e. comparing the data to the model prediction of disappearance in a data-to-data comparison of the two respective detectors. The analysis is optimized for a model of three active and one sterile neutrino. It is sensitive in the typical mass range 5 x 10(-3) eV(2) less than or similar to Delta m(41)(2) less than or similar to 3 x 10(-1) eV(2) for mixing angles downto sin(2) 2 theta(14) greater than or similar to 0.02. No significant disappearance additionally to the conventional disappearance related to theta(13) is observed and correspondingly exclusion bounds on the sterile mixing parameter theta(14) as a function of Delta m(41)(2) are obtained.

Title Observation of Multiplicity Dependent Prompt chi(c1) (3872) and psi (2S) Production in pp Collisions Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
  Volume 126 Issue 9 Pages 092001 - 11pp
  Keywords
Abstract The production of chi(c1)(3872) and psi(2S) hadrons is studied as a function of charged particle multiplicity in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2 fb(-1). For both states, the fraction that is produced promptly at the collision vertex is found to decrease as charged particle multiplicity increases. The ratio of chi(c1) (3872) to psi(2S) cross sections for promptly produced particles is also found to decrease with multiplicity, while no significant dependence on multiplicity is observed for the equivalent ratio of particles produced away from the collision vertex in b-hadron decays. This behavior is consistent with a calculation that models the chi(c1) (3872) structure as a compact tetraquark. Comparisons with model calculations and implications for the binding energy of the chi(c1)(3872) state are discussed.
