Abstract: Background: The Z = 50 shell closure, near N = 82, is unique in the sense that it is the only shell closure with the spin-orbit partner orbitals, pi g(9/2) and pi g(7/2), enclosing the magic gap. The interaction of the proton hole/particle in the above-mentioned orbitals with neutrons in the nu h(11)(/2) orbital is an important prerequisite to the understanding of the nuclear structure near N = 82 and the nu pi interaction. Purpose: To explore the structural similarity between the high-spin isomeric states in In (Z = 49), Sn (Z = 50), and Sb (Z = 51) isotopes from a microscopic point of view. In addition, to understand the role of a proton hole or particle in the spin-orbit partner orbitals, pi g(9/2) and pi g(7/2), respectively, with neutron holes in the nu h(11)(/2) orbital on these aforementioned isomers. Methods: The fusion and transfer induced fission reaction Be-9(U-238, f) with 6.2 MeV/u beam energy, using a unique setup consisting of AGATA, VAMOS ++, and EXOGAM detectors, was used to populate through the fission process and study the neutron-rich In-119,In-121 isotopes. This setup enabled the prompt-delayed gamma-ray spectroscopy of isotopes in the time range of 100 ns-200 μs. Results: In the odd-A In-119,In-121 isotopes, indications of a short half-life 19/2(-) isomeric state, in addition to the previously known 25/2(+) isomeric state, were observed from the present data. Further, new prompt transitions above the 25/2(+) isomer in In-121 were identified along with reevaluation of its half-life. Conclusions: The experimental data were compared with the theoretical results obtained in the framework of large-scale shell-model calculations in a restricted model space. The <pi g(9/2)nu h(11/2); I vertical bar H vertical bar pi g(9/2) nu h(11/2);I > two-body matrix elements of residual interaction were modified to explain the excitation energies and the B(E2) transition probabilities in the neutron-rich In isotopes. The (i) decreasing trend of E(29/2(+))-E(25/2(+)) in odd-In (with dominant configuration pi g(9/)(2)(-1) nu h(11/2)(-2) and maximum aligned spin of 29/2+) and (ii) increasing trend of E(27/2(+)) – E(23/2(+)) in odd-Sb (with dominant configuration pi g(7/)(2)(+1) nu h(11/2)(-2) and maximum aligned spin of 27/2(+)) with increasing neutron number could be understood as a consequence of hole-hole and particle-hole interactions, respectively.

Abstract: The production of eta and eta' mesons is studied in proton -proton and proton -lead collisions collected with the LHCb detector. Proton -proton collisions are studied at center -of -mass energies of 5.02 and 13 TeV and proton -lead collisions are studied at a center -of -mass energy per nucleon of 8.16 TeV. The studies are performed in center -of -mass (c.m.) rapidity regions 2.5 < y(c.m.) < 3.5 (forward rapidity) and -4.0 < y(c.m.) < -3.0 (backward rapidity) defined relative to the proton beam direction. The eta and eta' production cross sections are measured differentially as a function of transverse momentum for 1.5 < p(T) < 10 GeV and 3 < p(T) < 10 GeV, respectively. The differential cross sections are used to calculate nuclear modification factors. The nuclear modification factors for eta and eta' mesons agree at both forward and backward rapidity, showing no significant evidence of mass dependence. The differential cross sections of eta mesons are also used to calculate eta/pi 0 cross-section ratios, which show evidence of a deviation from the world average. These studies offer new constraints on mass -dependent nuclear effects in heavy -ion collisions, as well as eta and eta' meson fragmentation.

Abstract: To study the properties of the N*(1535) and N*(1650), we calculate the mass distributions of MB in the Lambda(c) -> (K) over bar (MB)-M-0 decay, with MB = pi N(I = 1/2), eta p, and K Sigma(I = 1/2). We do this by calculating the tree-level and loop contributions, mixing pseudoscalar-baryon and vector-baryon channels using the local hidden gauge formalism. The loop contributions for each channel are calculated using the chiral unitary approach. We observe that for the eta N mass distribution only the N* (1535) is seen, with the N* (1650) contributing to the width of the curve, but for the pi N mass distribution both resonances are clearly visible. In the case of MB = K Sigma, we found that the strength of the K E mass distribution is smaller than that of the mass distributions of the pi N and eta p in the Lambda(+)(c)-> (K) over bar (0)pi N and Lambda(+)(c) -> (K) over bar (0)eta p processes, in spite of this channel having a large coupling to the N* (1650). This is because the K Sigma pair production is suppressed in the primary production from the Lambda(c) decay.

Abstract: We investigate the possibility of probing the hot and dense nuclear matter-created in relativistic heavyion collisions (HICs)-with strange vector mesons (K*, (K) over bar*). Our analysis is based on the nonequilibrium parton-hadron-string dynamics (PHSD) transport approach which incorporates partonic and hadronic degrees of freedom and describes the full dynamics of HIC on a microscopic level-starting from the primary nucleon-nucleon collisions to the formation of the strongly interacting quark gluon plasma (QGP), followed by dynamical hadronization of (anti)quarks as well as final hadronic elastic and inelastic interactions. This allows us to study the K* and (K) over bar* meson formation from the QGP as well as the in-medium effects related to the modification of their spectral properties during the propagation through the dense and hot hadronic environment in the expansion phase. We employ relativistic Breit-Wigner spectral functions for the K*, (K) over bar* mesons with self-energies obtained from a self-consistent coupled-channel G-matrix approach to study the role of in-medium effects on the K* and (K) over bar* meson dynamics in heavy-ion collisions from FAIR/NICA to LHC energies. According to our analysis most of the final K* /(K) over bar*'s, that can be observed experimentally by reconstruction of the invariant mass of pi + K((K) over bar) pairs, are produced during the late hadronic phase and originate dominantly from the K((K) over bar) + pi -> K*( (K) over bar*) formation channel. The amount of K*/ (K) over bar*'s, originating from the QGP channel is comparatively small even at LHC energies and those K* /(K) over bar*'s can hardly be reconstructed experimentally due to the rescattering of final pions and (anti)kaons. This mirrors the results from our previous study on the strange vector-meson production in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC energies. We demonstrate that K* /(K) over bar* in-medium effects should be visible at FAIR/NICA and BES RHIC energies, where the production of K* /(K) over bar*'s occurs at larger net-baryon densities. Finally, we present the experimental procedures to extract the information on the resonance masses and widths by fitting the final mass spectra at LHC energies.

Abstract: Background: Identification of proton-neutron mixed-symmetric one-quadrupole phonon excitations (the 2(ms)(+) states) of atomic nuclei provides information on the isovector part of the residual nucleon-nucleon interaction. It was predicted that the 2(ms)(+) state of particular nuclei close to the U(5) limit of the interacting boson model, in particular Ba-140, should be considerably populated by alpha-transfer reactions [C. E. Alonso et al., Phys. Rev. C 78, 017301 (2008)]. Purpose: We aim at the identification of the 2(ms)(+) mixed-symmetry state (MSS) of radioactive Ba-140 and investigate its population by the alpha-transfer reaction as a suitable tool to selectively populate MSSs and as a potential new signature for its mixed-symmetric character. Method: A gamma-ray spectroscopy experiment was performed in inverse kinematics in order to populate the 2(ms)(+) state of Ba-140 by alpha-transfer from a C-nat target on Xe-136 beam ions. The population of the candidate for the 2(ms)(+) state of Ba-140 was measured relative to the population of the 2(1)(+) state. Results: The candidate for the 2(ms)(+) state of Ba-140 was populated by a transfer three times weaker than predicted. Another 2(+) state that can be ruled out as the MSS was in turn as strongly populated by the a transfer as predicted for the MSS. Conclusions: The relative population of 2(+) states by alpha-transfer cannot serve as a new signature for MSSs, since other 2(+) states are also strongly populated. Nevertheless, the substantial population of the MSS candidate of Ba-140 by alpha transfer qualifies this type of reaction as suitable tool to excite MSSs and study their electromagnetic decay properties.
