Abstract: Searches for new heavy resonances decaying to WW, WZ, and ZZ bosons are presented, using a data sample corresponding to 3.2 fb(-1) of pp collisions at root S = 13 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Analyses selecting vvqq, lvqq, llqq and qqqq final states are combined, searching for a narrow-width resonance with mass between 500 and 3000 GeV. The discriminating variable is either an invariant mass or a transverse mass. No significant deviations from the Standard Model predictions are observed. Three benchmark models are tested: a model predicting the existence of a new heavy scalar singlet, a simplified model predicting a heavy vector-boson triplet, and a bulk Randall-Sundrum model with a heavy spin-2 graviton. Cross-section limits are set at the 95% confidence level and are compared to theoretical cross-section predictions for a variety of models. The data exclude a scalar singlet with mass below 2650 GeV, a heavy vector-boson triplet with mass below 2600 GeV, and a graviton with mass below 1100 GeV. These results significantly extend the previous limits set using pp collisions at root S = 8 TeV.

Abstract: Violations of CPT symmetry and Lorentz invariance are searched for by studying interference effects in B-0 mixing and in B-s(0) mixing. Samples of B-0 -> J/psi K-S(0) and B-0(s) -> J/psi K+K- decays are recorded by the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1). No periodic variations of the particle-antiparticle mass differences are found, consistent with Lorentz invariance and CPT symmetry. Results are expressed in terms of the standard model extension parameter Delta a(mu) with precisions of O(10(-15)) and O(10(-14)) GeV for the B-0 and B-s(0) systems, respectively. With no assumption on Lorentz (non) invariance, the CPT-violating parameter z in the B-s(0) system is measured for the first time and found to be Re(z) = -0.022 +/- 0.033 +/- 0.005 and Im(z) = 0.004 +/- 0.011 +/- 0.002, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.

Abstract: The low-spin structure of the nearly spherical nucleus Gd-146 was studied using the Sm-144(He-4, 2n) fusion-evaporation reaction. High-statistics gamma-gamma coincidence measurements were performed at iThemba LABS with 7x10(9) gamma-gamma coincidence events recorded. Gated gamma-ray energy spectra show evidence for the 6(2)(+) -> 3(1)(-) -> 0(1)(+) cascade of E3 transitions in agreement with recent findings by Caballero and co-workers, but with a smaller branching ratio of I-gamma = 4.7(10) for the 6(2)(+) -> 3(1)(-) 1905.1 keV gamma ray. Although these findings may support octupole vibrations in spherical nuclei, sophisticated beyond mean-field calculations including angular-momentum projection are required to interpret in an appropriate way the available data due to the failure of the rotational model assumptions in this nucleus.

Abstract: The results of a search for the top squark, the supersymmetric partner of the top quark, in final states with one isolated electron or muon, jets, and missing transverse momentum are reported. The search uses the 2015 LHC pp collision data at a center-of-mass energy of root s = 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb(-1). The analysis targets two types of signal models: gluino-mediated pair production of top squarks with a nearly mass-degenerate top squark and neutralino and direct pair production of top squarks, decaying to the top quark and the lightest neutralino. The experimental signature in both signal scenarios is similar to that of a top quark pair produced in association with large missing transverse momentum. No significant excess over the Standard Model background prediction is observed, and exclusion limits on gluino and top squark masses are set at 95% confidence level. The results extend the LHC run-1 exclusion limit on the gluino mass up to 1460 GeV in the gluino-mediated scenario in the high gluino and low top squark mass region and add an excluded top squark mass region from 745 to 780 GeV for the direct top squark model with a massless lightest neutralino. The results are also reinterpreted to set exclusion limits in a model of vectorlike top quarks.

Abstract: A search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a vector boson with the decay H -> tau tau is presented. The data correspond to 20.3 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity from proton-proton collisions at root s = 8 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC during 2012. The data agree with the background expectation, and 95% confidence-level upper limits are placed on the cross section of this process. The observed (expected) limit, expressed in terms of the signal strength mu= sigma/sigma(SM) for m(H) = 125 GeV, is μ< 5.6 (3.7). The measured value of the signal strength is μ= 2.3 +/- 1.6.
