Abstract |
We study the processes e(+)e(-) -> pi+ pi-pi(0)pi(0)pi(0)pi(0)gamma and pi(+) pi(-) pi(0)pi(0)pi eta gamma in which an energetic photon is radiated from the initial state. The data were collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. About 7300 and 870 events, respectively, are selected from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 469 fb(-1). The invariant mass of the hadronic final state defines the effective e(+)e(-) center-of-mass energy. The center-of-mass energies range from threshold to 4.5 GeV. From the mass spectra, the first ever measurements of the e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-) pi(0)pi(0)pi(0)pi(0) and the e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-) pi(0)pi(0)pi(0)eta cross sections are performed. The contributions from omega pi(0)pi(0)pi(0), eta pi(+)pi(-)pi(0), omega eta, and other intermediate states are presented. We observe the J=psi and psi(2S) in most of these final states and measure the corresponding branching fractions, many of them for the first time. |

Abstract |
We study the processes e(+)e--> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0)pi(0)pi(0)gamma and pi(+)pi(-)pi(0)pi(0)eta gamma in which an energetic photon is radiated from the initial state. The data are collected with the BABAR detector at SLAC. About 14 000 and 4700 events, respectively, are selected from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 469 fb(-1). The invariant mass of the hadronic final state defines the effective e(+)e(-) center-of-mass energy. From the mass spectra, the first precise measurement of the e(+)e--> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0)pi(0)pi(0) cross section and the first measurement ever of the e(+)e--> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0)pi(0)pi(0)eta cross section are performed. The center-of-mass energies range from threshold to 4.35 GeV. The systematic uncertainty is typically between 10% and 13%. The contributions from omega pi(0)pi(0), eta pi(+)pi(-) and other intermediate states are presented. We observe the J/psi and psi(2S) in most of these final states and measure the corresponding branching fractions, many of them for the first time. |

Abstract |
We study the process e(+)e(-) -> psi(2S)pi(+)pi(-) with initial-state-radiation events produced at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy collider. The data were recorded with the BABAR detector at center-of-mass energies at and near the (nS) (n = 2, 3, 4) resonances and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 520 fb(-1). We investigate the psi(2S)pi(+)pi(-) mass distribution from 3.95 to 5.95 GeV/c(2), and measure the center-of-mass energy dependence of the associated e(+)e(-) -> psi(2S)pi(+)pi(-) cross section. The mass distribution exhibits evidence of two resonant structures. A fit to the psi(2S)pi(+)pi(-) mass distribution corresponding to the decay mode psi(2S) -> J/psi pi(+)pi(-) yields a mass value of 4340 +/- 16 (stat) +/- 9 (syst) MeV/c(2) and a width of 94 +/- 32 (stat) +/- 13 (syst) MeV for the first resonance, and for the second a mass value of 4669 +/- 21 (stat) +/- 3 (syst) MeV/c(2) and a width of 104 +/- 48 (stat) +/- 10 (syst) MeV. In addition, we show the pi(+)pi(-) mass distributions for these resonant regions. |

Abstract |
We study the process e(+)e(-) -> J/psi pi(+)pi(-) with initial-state-radiation events produced at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy collider. The data were recorded with the BABAR detector at center-of-mass energies 10.58 and 10.54 GeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 454 fb(-1). We investigate the J/psi pi(+)pi(-) mass distribution in the region from 3.5 to 5.5 GeV/c(2). Below 3.7 GeV/c(2) the psi (2S) signal dominates, and above 4 GeV/c(2) there is a significant peak due to the Y(4260). A fit to the data in the range 3.74-5.50 GeV/c(2) yields a mass value 4245 +/- 5(stat) +/- 4(syst) MeV/c(2) and a width value 114(-15)(+16)(stat) +/- 7(syst) MeV for this state. We do not confirm the report from the Belle Collaboration of a broad structure at 4.01 GeV/c(2). In addition, we investigate the pi(+)pi(-) system which results from Y(4260) decay. |
