Title (down) Evidence for the two-body charmless baryonic decay B+ -> p(Lambda)over-bar Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 04 Issue 4 Pages 162 - 18pp
Keywords B physics; Branching fraction; Flavor physics; Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments)
Abstract A search for the rare two-body charmless baryonic decay B+ -> p (Lambda) over bar is performed with pp collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. An excess of B+ -> p (Lambda) over bar candidates with respect to background expectations is seen with a statistical significance of 4.1 standard deviations, and constitutes the first evidence for this decay. The branching fraction, measured using the B+ -> K-S(0)pi(+) decay for normalisation, is B(B+ -> p (Lambda) over bar) = (2.4(-0.8)(+)(+1.0) +/- 0.3) x 10(-7), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.

Title (down) Evidence for the Rare Decay Sigma(+) -> p mu(+)mu(-) Type Journal Article
Year 2018 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
Volume 120 Issue 22 Pages 221803 - 10pp
Keywords
Abstract A search for the rare decay Sigma(+) -> p mu(+)mu(-) is performed using pp collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies root s = 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1). An excess of events is observed with respect to the background expectation, with a signal significance of 4.1 standard deviations. No significant structure is observed in the dimuon invariant mass distribution, in contrast with a previous result from the HyperCP experiment. The measured Sigma(+) -> p mu(+)mu(-) branching fraction is (2.2(-1.3)(+1.8)) x 10(-8), where statistical and systematic uncertainties are included, which is consistent with the standard model prediction.

Title (down) Evidence for the decay B-s(0) -> (K)over-bar(*0) mu(+)mu(-) Type Journal Article
Year 2018 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 07 Issue 7 Pages 020 - 24pp
Keywords B physics; FCNC Interaction; Flavor physics; Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments); Rare decay
Abstract A search for the decay B-s(0) -> (K) over bar (*0) mu(+) mu(-) is presented using data sets corresponding to 1.0, 2.0 and 1.6 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected during pp collisions with the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13TeV, respectively. An excess is found over the background-only hypothesis with a significance of 3.4 standard deviations. The branching fraction of the B-s(0) -> (K) over bar (*0) mu(+) mu(-) decay is determined to be B(B-s(0) -> (K) over bar (*0) mu(+) mu(-)) = [2.9 +/- 1.0 (stat) +/- 0.2 (syst) +/- 0.3 (norm)] x 10(-8), where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The third uncertainty is due to limited knowledge of external parameters used to normalise the branching fraction measurement.

Title (down) Evidence for Modification of b Quark Hadronization in High-Multiplicity pp Collisions at √s=13 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
Volume 131 Issue 6 Pages 061901 - 11pp
Keywords
Abstract The production rate of B-s(0) mesons relative to B-0 mesons is measured by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy root s = 13 TeV over the forward rapidity interval 2 < y < 4.5 as a function of the charged particle multiplicity measured in the event. Evidence at the 3.4 sigma level is found for an increase of the ratio of B-s(0) to B-0 cross sections with multiplicity at transverse momenta below 6 GeV=c, with no significant multiplicity dependence at higher transverse momentum. Comparison with data from e(+)e(-) collisions implies that the density of the hadronic medium may affect the production rates of B mesons. This is qualitatively consistent with the emergence of quark coalescence as an additional hadronization mechanism in high-multiplicity collisions.

Title (down) Evidence for Exotic Hadron Contributions to Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi p pi(-) Decays Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
Volume 117 Issue 8 Pages 082003 - 10pp
Keywords
Abstract A full amplitude analysis of Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi pi(-) decays is performed with a data sample acquired with the LHCb detector from 7 and 8 TeV pp collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1). A significantly better description of the data is achieved when, in addition to the previously observed nucleon excitations N -> p pi(-), either the P-c(43800)(+) and P-c(4450)(+) -> J/psi p states, previously observed in Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi pK(-) decays, or the Z(c)(4200)(-) -> J/psi pi(-) state, previously reported in B-0 -> J/psi K+pi(-) decays, or all three, are included in the amplitude models. The data support a model containing all three exotic states, with a significance of more than three standard deviations. Within uncertainties, the data are consistent with the P-c(4380)(+) and P-c(4 450)(+) production rates expected from their previous observation taking account of Cabibbo suppression.

Abstract A Dalitz plot analysis of /30 ric(1S)K+7decays is performed using data samples of pp collisions collected with the LHCb detector at centre -of -mass energies of./7 = 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb-1. A satisfactory description of the data is obtained when including a contribution representing an exotic qc (1 S).7-- resonant state. The significance of this exotic resonance is more than three standard deviations, while its mass and width are 4096 20 is MeV and 152 +58 -P6 MeV, respectively. The spin -parity assignments JP = 0+ and JP = 1- are both consistent with the data. In addition, the first measurement of the B -> ric(1S)K+71-branching fraction is performed and gives B(B -> = (5.73 0.24 0.13 0.66) x 10-4, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is due to limited knowledge of external branching fractions.

Abstract An amplitude analysis of flavor-untagged B-s(0) -> J=psi p (p) over bar decays is performed using a sample of 797 +/- 31 decays reconstructed with the LHCb detector. The data, collected in proton-proton collisions between 2011 and 2018, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1). Evidence for a new structure in the J=psi p and J=psi(p) over bar systems with a mass of 4337(-4-2)(+7+2) MeV and a width of 29(-12-14)(+26+14) MeV is found, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic, with a significance in the range of 3.1 to 3.7 sigma, depending on the assigned J(P) hypothesis.

Title (down) Direct CP violation in charmless three-body decays of B± mesons Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 108 Issue 1 Pages 012008 - 17pp
Keywords
Abstract Measurements of CP asymmetries in charmless three-body decays of B-+/- mesons are reported using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.9 fb(-1). The previously observed CP asymmetry in B-+/- -> pi(K+K-)-K-+/- decays is confirmed, and CP asymmetries are observed with a significance of more than five standard deviations in the B-+/- -> pi(+/-)pi(+)pi and B-+/- -> (KK+K-)-K-+/- decays, while the CP asymmetry of B-+/- -> K-+/-pi(+)pi(-) decays is confirmed to be compatible with zero. The distributions of these asymmetries are also studied as a function of the three-body phase space and suggest contributions from rescattering and resonance interference processes. An indication of the presence of the decays B+ -> pi(+) chi(c0) (1P) in both B+ ->pi(+)pi(+)pi and B+ ->pi+K+K- decays is observed, as is CP violation involving these amplitudes.

Abstract Measurements of the differential branching fraction and angular moments of the decay B-0 -> K+pi(-)mu(+)mu(-) in the K+pi(-) invariant mass range 1330 <m(K+pi(-)) < 1530 MeV/c(2) are presented. Proton-proton collision data are used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment. Differential branching fraction measurements are reported in five bins of the invariant mass squared of the dimuon system, q(2), between 0.1 and 8.0 GeV2/c(4). For the first time, an angular analysis sensitive to the S-, P- and D-wave contributions of this rare decay is performed. The set of 40 normalised angular moments describing the decay is presented for the q(2) range 1.1-6.0 GeV2/c(4).

Title (down) Determination of quantum numbers for several excited charmed mesons observed in B- -> D*(+)pi(-) pi(-) decays Type Journal Article
Year 2020 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 101 Issue 3 Pages 032005 - 24pp
Keywords
Abstract A four-body amplitude analysis of the B- -> D*(+)pi(-) pi(-) decay is performed, where fractions and relative phases of the various resonances contributing to the decay are measured. Several quasi-model-independent analyses are performed aimed at searching for the presence of new states and establishing the quantum numbers of previously observed charmed meson resonances. In particular the resonance parameters and quantum numbers are determined for the D-1 (2420), D-1 (2430), D-0 (2550), D-1* (2600), D-2 (2740) and D-3*(2750) states. The mixing between the D-1 (2420) and D-1 (2430) resonances is studied and the mixing parameters are measured. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb(-1), collected in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV with the LHCb detector.
