Abstract: The first observation of the decays B-(s)(0) -> J/psi p (p) over bar is reported, using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.2 fb(-1), collected with the LHCb detector. These decays are suppressed due to limited available phase space, as well as due to Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka or Cabibbo suppression. The measured branching fractions are beta(B-(s)(0) -> J/psi p (p) over bar). [4.51 +/- 0.40(stat)+/- 0.44(syst)] x 10(-7), BB(s)0 -> J/psi p (p) over bar) = 3.58 +/- 0.19(stat) 0.39(syst)] x 10(-6). For the B-s(0) meson, the result is much higher than the expected value of O(10(-9)). The small available phase space in these decays also allows for the most precise single measurement of both the B-0 mass as 5279.74 +/- 0.30(stat) 0.10(syst) MeV and the B-s(0) mass as 5366.85 +/- 0.19(stat) +/- 0.13(syst) MeV.

Abstract: Two-particle correlations in relative azimuthal angle (Delta phi) and pseudorapidity (Delta eta) are measured in root S-NN = 5.02 TeV p + Pb collisions using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The measurements are performed using approximately 1 μb(-1) of data as a function of transverse momentum (p(T)) and the transverse energy (Sigma E-T(Pb)) summed over 3.1 < eta < 4.9 in the direction of the Pb beam. The correlation function, constructed from charged particles, exhibits a long-range (2 < vertical bar Delta eta vertical bar < 5) “near-side” (Delta phi similar to 0) correlation that grows rapidly with increasing Sigma E-T(Pb). A long-range “away-side” (Delta phi similar to pi) correlation, obtained by subtracting the expected contributions from recoiling dijets and other sources estimated using events with small Sigma E-T(Pb), is found to match the near-side correlation in magnitude, shape (in Delta eta and Delta phi) and Sigma E-T(Pb) dependence. The resultant Delta phi correlation is approximately symmetric about pi/2, and is consistent with a dominant cos2 Delta phi modulation for all Sigma E-T(Pb) ranges and particle p(T).

Abstract: A search for excited states of the B-c(+/-) meson is performed using 4.9 fb(-1) of 7 TeV and 19.2 fb(-1) of 8 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. A new state is observed through its hadronic transition to the ground state, with the latter detected in the decayB(c)(+/-) -> J/psi pi(+/-). The state appears in the m(B-c(+/-)pi(+)pi(-)) – m(B-c(+/-)) – 2m(pi(+/-)) mass difference distribution with a significance of 5.2 standard deviations. The mass of the observed state is 6842 +/- 4 +/- 5 MeV, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. The mass and decay of this state are consistent with expectations for the second S-wave state of the B-c(+/-) meson, B-c(+/-)(2S).

Abstract: Using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.5 fb(-1) recorded by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of root s = 7, 8, and 13 TeV, the observation of an excited B-c(+) state in the B-c(+)pi(+)pi(-) invariant-mass spectrum is reported. The observed peak has a mass of 6841.2 +/- 0.6(stat) +/- 0.1(syst) +/- 0.8(B-c(+)) MeV/c(2), where the last uncertainty is due to the limited knowledge of the B-c(+) mass. It is consistent with expectations of the B-c*(2(3)S(1))(+) state reconstructed without the low-energy photon from the B-c*(1(3)S(1))(+) -> B-c(+)gamma decay following B-c*(2(3)S(1))(+) -> B-c*(1(3)S(1))(+)pi(+)pi(-). A second state is seen with a global (local) statistical significance of 2.2 sigma (3.2 sigma) and a mass of 6872.1 +/- 1.3(stat) +/- 0.1(syst) +/- 0.8(B-c(+)) MeV/c(2), and is consistent with the B-c(2(1)S(0))(+) state. These mass measurements are the most precise to date.

Abstract: A search is made for potential ccc over bar c over bar tetraquarks decaying into a pair of charmonium states in the four ffiffi muon final state using proton-proton collision data at p s = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb-1 recorded by the ATLAS experiment at LHC. Two decay channels, J lig +J lig -4 μand J lig + ig(2S) -4 mu, are studied. Backgrounds are estimated based on a hybrid approach involving Monte Carlo simulations and data-driven methods. Statistically significant excesses with respect to backgrounds dominated by the single parton scattering are seen in the di-J lig channel consistent with a narrow resonance at 6.9 GeV and a broader structure at lower mass. A statistically significant excess is also seen in the J lig + ig(2S) channel. The fitted masses and decay widths of the structures are reported.

Abstract: An amplitude analysis of the B thorn & RARR; D thorn s D-s K thorn decay is carried out to study for the first time its intermediate resonant contributions, using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. A near-threshold peaking structure, referred to as X(3960), is observed in the D thorn s D-s invariant-mass spectrum with significance greater than 12 standard deviations. The mass, width, and the quantum numbers of the structure are measured to be 3956 1 5 1 10 MeV, 43 1 13 1 8 MeV, and JPC = 0 thorn thorn , respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The properties of the new structure are consistent with recent theoretical predictions for a state composed of cc over bar ss over bar quarks. Evidence for an additional structure is found around 4140 MeV in the D thorn s D-s invariant mass, which might be caused either by a new resonance with the 0 thorn thorn assignment or by a J=& psi;& phi; & LRARR; D thorn s D-s coupled-channel effect.

Abstract: From samples of pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at root s = 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1.0, 2.0 and 1.5 fb(-1), respectively, a peak in both the Lambda(0)(b) K- and Xi(0)(b)pi(-) invariant mass spectra is observed. In the quark model, radially and orbitally excited Xi(-)(b) resonances with quark content bds are expected. Referring to this peak as Xi(b)(6227)(-), the mass and natural width are measured to be m(Xi b(6227))(-) = 6226.9 +/- 2.0 +/- 0.3 +/- 0.2 MeV/c(2) and Gamma(Xi b(6227))- = 18.1 +/- 5.4 +/- 1.8 MeV/c(2), where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third, on m(Xi b(6227))(-), is due to the knowledge of the Lambda(0)(b) baryon mass. Relative production rates of the Xi(b)(6227)(-) -> Lambda K-0(b)- and Xi(b)(6227)(-) -> Xi(0)(b)pi(-) decays are also reported.

Abstract: Using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb(-1) collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, the B-0 -> D- D+ K+ pi(-) decay is studied. A new excited D-s(+) meson is observed decaying into the D+K+pi(-) final state with large statistical significance. The pole mass and width, and the spin parity of the new state are measured with an amplitude analysis to be m(R) = 2591 +/- 6 +/- 7 MeV, Gamma(R) = 89 +/- 16 +/- 12 MeV, and J(P) = 0(-), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. Fit fractions for all components in the amplitude analysis are also reported. The new resonance, denoted as D-s0(2590)(+), is a strong candidate to be the D-s(2(1)S(0))(+) state, the radial excitation of the pseudoscalar ground-state D-s(+) meson.

Abstract: The chi(b)(np) quarkonium states are produced in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider at root s=7 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS detector. Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.4 fb(-1), these states are reconstructed through their radiative decays to Y(1S,2S) with Y ->mu(+)mu(-). In addition to the mass peaks corresponding to the decay modes chi(b)(1P,2P)-> Y(1S)gamma, a new structure centered at a mass of 10.530 +/- 0.005(stat)+/- 0.009(syst) GeV is also observed, in both the Y(1S)gamma and Y(2S)gamma decay modes. This structure is interpreted as the chi(b)(3P) system.

Abstract: A narrow pentaquark state, P-c(4312)(+), decaying to J/psi p, is discovered with a statistical significance of 7.3 sigma in a data sample of Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi pK(-) decays, which is an order of magnitude larger than that previously analyzed by the LHCb Collaboration. The P-c(4450)(+) pentaquark structure formerly reported by LHCb is confirmed and observed to consist of two narrow overlapping peaks, P-c(4440)(+) and P-c(4457)(+), where the statistical significance of this two-peak interpretation is 5.4 sigma. The proximity of the Sigma(+)(c)(D) over bar (0) and Sigma(+)(c)(D) over bar (*0) thresholds to the observed narrow peaks suggests that they play an important role in the dynamics of these states.
