Title (down) Test of lepton flavor universality by the measurement of the B-0 -> D*(-) tau(+) nu(tau) branching fraction using three-prong tau decays Type Journal Article
Year 2018 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 97 Issue 7 Pages 072013 - 26pp
Keywords
Abstract The ratio of branching fractions R(D*(-)) = B(B-0 -> D*(-) tau(+)nu(tau))/(B-0 -> D*(-) mu(+)nu(mu)) is measured using a data sample of proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1). The tau lepton is reconstructed with three charged pions in the final state. A novel method is used that exploits the different vertex topologies of signal and backgrounds to isolate samples of semitauonic decays of b hadrons with high purity. Using the B-0 -> D*(-) pi(+)pi(-)pi(+) decay as the normalization channel, the ratio B(B-0 -> D*(-) tau(+)nu(tau))/B(B-0 -> D* pi(+)pi(-)pi(+)) is measured to be 1.97 +/- 0.13 +/- 0.18, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. An average of branching fraction measurements for the normalization channel is used to derive B(B-0 -> D*(-) tau(+)nu(tau))(_)= (1.42 +/- 0.094 +/- 0.129 +/- 0.054)%, where the third uncertainty is due to the limited knowledge of B(B-0 -> D*(-) pi(+)pi(-)pi(+)). A test of lepton flavor universality is performed using the well- measured branching fraction B(B-0 -> D*(-) mu(+)nu(mu)) to compute R(D*(-))0 = 0.291 +/- 0.019 +/- 0.026 +/- 0.013, where the third uncertainty originates from the uncertainties on B(B-0 -> D*(-) pi(+)pi(-)pi(+)) and B(B-0 -> D*(-) mu(+)nu(mu)) This measurement is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction and with previous measurements.

Title (down) Study of Z Bosons Produced in Association with Charm in the Forward Region Type Journal Article

Abstract Events containing a Z boson and a charm jet are studied for the first time in the forward region of proton-proton collisions. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb(-1) collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the LHCb detector. In events with a Z boson and a jet, the fraction of charm jets is determined in intervals of Z-boson rapidity in the range 2.0 < y(Z) < 4.5. A sizable enhancement is observed in the forwardmost y(Z) interval, which could be indicative of a valencelike intrinsic-charm component in the proton wave function.

Abstract We study the Y(3S, 2S) -> eta Y(1S) and Y (3S,2S) -> pi(+)pi(-) transitions with 122 x 10(6) x Y(3S) and 100 x 10(6) Y (2S) mesons collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We measure B[Y(2S) -> eta Y(1S)] = (2.39 +/- 0.31 (stat) +/- 0.14(syst)) x 10(-4) and Gamma[Y(2S) -> eta Y(1S)]/Gamma[Y(2S) ->pi(+)pi(-)(1S)] – (2.39 +/- 0.31(stat) +/- 0.14(syst)) x 10(-3). We find no evidence for Y(3S) -> eta Y (1S) and obtain B[Y(3S) -> eta Y(1S)] < 1.0 x 10(-4) and Gamma[Y (3S) -> eta Y(1S)/Gamma[Y(3S) -> pi(+)pi(-) Y(1S)] < 2.3 x 10(-3) as upper limits at the 90% confidence level. We also provide improved measurements of the Y(S) – Y(1S) and Y(3S) – Y (1S) mass differences, 562.170 +/- 0.007(stat) +/- 0.088(syst). MeV/c(2) and 893.813 +/- 0: 015(stat) +/- 0.107(syst.) MeV/c(2), respectively.

Title (down) Study of X (3915) -> J/psi omega in two-photon collisions Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 86 Issue 7 Pages 072002 - 10pp

Abstract We study the process gamma gamma -> J/psi omega using a data sample of 519.2 fb(-1) recorded by the BABAR detector at SLAC at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider at center-of-mass energies near the gamma(nS) (n = 2, 3, 4) resonances. We confirm the existence of the charmoniumlike resonance X (3915) decaying to J/psi omega with a significance of 7.6 standard deviations, including systematic uncertainties, and measure its mass (3919.4 +/- 2.2 +/- 1.6) MeV/c(2) and width (13 +/- 6 +/- 3) MeV, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. A spin-parity analysis supports the assignment J(P) = 0(+) and therefore the identification of the signal as due to the chi(c0)(2P) resonance. In this hypothesis we determine the product between the two-photon width and the final state branching fraction to be (52 +/- 10 +/- 3) eV.

Title (down) Study of W boson production in association with beauty and charm Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 92 Issue 5 Pages 052001 - 16pp
Keywords
Abstract The associated production of a W boson with a jet originating from either a light parton or heavy-flavor quark is studied in the forward region using proton-proton collisions. The analysis uses data corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1.0 and 2.0 fb(-1) collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, respectively. The W bosons are reconstructed using the W -> μnu decay and muons with a transverse momentum, p(T), larger than 20 GeV in the pseudorapidity range 2.0 < eta < 4.5. The partons are reconstructed as jets with p(T) > 20 GeV and 2.2 < eta < 4.2. The sum of the muon and jet momenta must satisfy p(T) > 20 GeV. The fraction of W + jet events that originate from beauty and charm quarks is measured, along with the charge asymmetries of the W+b and W+c production cross sections. The ratio of the W + jet to Z + jet production cross sections is also measured using the Z -> μμdecay. All results are in agreement with Standard Model predictions.
