Title (down) Sterile neutrino models and nonminimal cosmologies Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 85 Issue 8 Pages 083522 - 9pp
Keywords
Abstract Cosmological measurements are affected by the energy density of massive neutrinos. We extend here a recent analysis of current cosmological data to nonminimal cosmologies. Several possible scenarios are examined: a constant w not equal -1 dark energy equation of state, a nonflat universe, a time-varying dark energy component and coupled dark matter-dark energy universes or modified gravity scenarios. When considering cosmological data only, (3 + 2) massive neutrino models with similar to 0.5 eV sterile species are allowed at 95% confidence level. This scenario has been shown to reconcile reactor, LSND and MiniBooNE positive signals with null results from other searches. Big bang nucleosynthesis bounds could compromise the viability of (3 + 2) models if the two sterile species are fully thermalized states at decoupling.

Title (down) Steplike discontinuities in Bose-Einstein condensates and Hawking radiation: The hydrodynamic limit Type Journal Article
Year 2011 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 83 Issue 12 Pages 124016 - 14pp
Keywords
Abstract We present a detailed analytical analysis of the propagation of Bogoliubov phonons on top of Bose-Einstein condensates with spatial and temporal steplike discontinuities in the speed of sound in the hydrodynamic limit. We focus on some features in the correlations patterns, in particular, of density-density correlations. The application to the study of the Hawking signal in the formation of acoustic black hole-like configurations is also discussed.

Title (down) Steplike discontinuities in Bose-Einstein condensates and Hawking radiation: Dispersion effects Type Journal Article

Abstract In this paper we extend the hydrodynamic results of {A. Fabbri and C. Mayoral, Phys. Rev. D 83, 124016 (2011).} and study, analytically, the propagation of Bogoliubov phonons on top of Bose-Einstein condensates with steplike discontinuities in the speed of sound by taking into account dispersion effects. We focus on the Hawking signal in the density-density correlations in the formation of acoustic blackhole-like configurations.

Title (down) Stellar structure equations in extended Palatini gravity Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 86 Issue 10 Pages 104039 - 8pp
Keywords
Abstract We consider static spherically symmetric stellar configurations in Palatini theories of gravity in which the Lagrangian is an unspecified function of the form f(R, R μnu R μnu). We obtain the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkov equations corresponding to this class of theories and show that they recover those of f(R) theories and general relativity in the appropriate limits. We show that the exterior vacuum solutions are of Schwarzschild-de Sitter type and comment on the possible expected modifications, as compared to general relativity, of the interior solutions.

Title (down) Stau relic density at the big-bang nucleosynthesis era in the coannihilation scenario and a solution to the Li-7 problem Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 82 Issue 11 Pages 115030 - 10pp
Keywords
Abstract We calculate the relic density of stau at the big-bang nucleosynthesis era in the coannihilation scenario of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. In this scenario, stau can be long lived and have significance in the remediation of light elements abundances. The freeze-out of stau is corroborated by solving the Boltzmann equation numerically, and the parameter dependence of the relic density is investigated. The possibility of solving the Li-7 problem is examined by taking account into the long-lived stau. By adopting an observational value of Li-7 in [J. Melendez and I. Ramirez, Astrophys. J. 615, L33 (2004).], we get minimal supersymmetric standard model parameter space in which abundances of both dark matter and all of the light elements are reproduced in accordance with observations. We also address the influence of intergenerational mixing on our calculation.
