Abstract The Tile PreProcessor (TilePPr) is the core element of the Tile Calorimeter (TileCal) off-detector electronics for High-luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). The TilePPr comprises FPGA-based boards to operate and read out the TileCal on-detector electronics. The Tile Computer on Module (TileCoM) mezzanine is embedded within TilePPr to carry out three main functionalities. These include remote configuration of on-detector electronics and TilePPr FPGAs, interface the TilePPr with the ATLAS Trigger and Data Acquisition (TDAQ) system, and interfacing the TilePPr with the ATLAS Detector Control System (DCS) by providing monitoring data. The TileCoM is a 10-layer board with a Zynq UltraScale+ ZU2CG for processing data, interface components to integrate with TilePPr and the power supply to be connected to the Advanced Telecommunication Computing Architecture carrier. A CentOS embedded Linux is deployed on the TileCoM to implement the required functionalities for the HL-LHC. In this paper we present the hardware and firmware developments of the TileCoM system in terms of remote programming, interface with ATLAS TDAQ system and DCS system.

Title (down) Threshold pion electro- and photoproduction off nucleons in covariant chiral perturbation theory Type Journal Article
Year 2020 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 102 Issue 11 Pages 113016 - 23pp
Keywords
Abstract Pion electro- and photoproduction off the nucleon close to threshold is studied in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory at O(p(3)) in the extended-on-mass-shell scheme, with the explicit inclusion of the Delta(1232) resonance. The relevant low energy constants are fixed by fitting the available experimental data with the theoretical model. The inclusion of the Delta resonance as an explicit degree of freedom substantially improves the agreement with data and the convergence of the model.

Title (down) Third family of compact stars within a nonlocal chiral quark model equation of state Type Journal Article
Year 2019 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 99 Issue 6 Pages 063010 - 19pp
Keywords
Abstract A class of hybrid compact star equations of state is investigated that joins by a Maxwell construction a low-density phase of hadronic matter, modeled by a relativistic mean-field approach with excluded nucleon volume, with a high-density phase of color superconducting two-flavor quark matter, described within a nonlocal covariant chiral quark model. It is found that the occurrence of a stable branch of hybrid compact stars requires a nonvanishing vector meson coupling in the quark model that exceeds a minimal value which depends on the presence of a diquark condensate. It is shown that these hybrid stars do not form a third family disconnected from the second family of ordinary neutron stars unless additional (de) confining effects are introduced with a density-dependent bag pressure. A suitably chosen density dependence of the vector meson coupling assures that at the same time the 2M(circle dot) maximum mass constraint is fulfilled on the hybrid star branch. A twofold interpolation method is realized which implements both the density dependence of a confining bag pressure at the onset of the hadron-to-quark matter transition and the stiffening of quark matter at higher densities by a density-dependent vector meson coupling. For three parametrizations of this class of hybrid equation of state the properties of corresponding compact star sequences are presented, including mass twins of neutron and hybrid stars at 2.00, 1.39 and 1.20 M-circle dot, respectively, and the hybrid compact star (third) families. The sensitivity of the hybrid equation of state and the corresponding compact star sequences to variations of the interpolation parameters at the 10% level is investigated and it is found that the feature of third family solutions for compact stars is robust against such a variation. This advanced description of hybrid star matter allows us to interpret GW170817 as a merger not only of two neutron stars but also of a neutron star with a hybrid star or of two hybrid stars.

Title (down) Thermodynamics of massless particles in curved spacetime Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication International Journal of Geometric Methods in Modern Physics Abbreviated Journal Int. J. Geom. Methods Mod. Phys.
Volume 12 Issue 13 Pages 2350226 - 40pp
Keywords Einstein-aether; thermodynamic properties; curved spacetime
Abstract This work is devoted to study the behavior of massless particles within the context of curved spacetime. In essence, we investigate the consequences of the scale factor C(?) of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker metric in the Einstein-aether formalism to study photon-like particles. To do so, we consider the system within the canonical ensemble formalism in order to derive the following thermodynamic state quantities: spectral radiance, Helmholtz free energy, pressure, entropy, mean energy and the heat capacity. Moreover, the correction to the Stefan-Boltzmann law and the equation of states are also provided. Particularly, we separate our study within three distinct cases, i.e. s = 0, p = 0; s = 1, p = 1; s = 2, p = 1. In the first one, the results are derived numerically. Nevertheless, for the rest of the cases, all the calculations are accomplished analytically showing explicitly the dependence of the scale factor C(?) and the Riemann zeta function ?(s). Furthermore, our analyses are accomplished in general taking into account three different regimes of temperature of the universe, i.e. the inflationary era (T = 10(13)GeV), the electroweak epoch (T = 10(3)GeV) and the cosmic microwave background (T = 10(-13)GeV).

Title (down) Thermodynamics of a quantum ring modified by Lorentz violation Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Physica Scripta Abbreviated Journal Phys. Scr.
Volume 98 Issue 6 Pages 065943 - 13pp
Keywords quantum ring; thermodynamic properties; Lorentz violation
Abstract In this work, we investigate the consequences of Lorentz-violating terms in the thermodynamic properties of a 1-dimensional quantum ring. In particular, we use the ensemble theory to obtain our results of interest. The thermodynamic functions as well as the spin currents are calculated as a function of the temperature. We observe that parameter xi, which triggers the Lorentz symmetry breaking, plays a major role in low temperature regime. Finally, depending on the configuration of the system, electrons can rotate in two different directions: clockwise and counterclockwise.

Title (down) Thermodynamics and evaporation of a modified Schwarzschild black hole in a non-commutative gauge theory Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B

Keywords Thermodynamic properties; Black hole; Non-commutative gauge theory; Evaporation process
Abstract In this work, we study the thermodynamic properties on a non-commutative background via gravitational gauge field potentials. This procedure is accomplished after contracting de Sitter (dS) group, SO(4, 1), with the Poincare group, ISO(3, 1). Particularly, we focus on a static spherically symmetric black hole. In this manner, we calculate the modified Hawking temperature and the other deformed thermal state quantities, namely, entropy, heat capacity, Helmholtz free energy and pressure. Finally, we also investigate the black hole evaporation process in such a context.

Abstract In this work, we analyze the thermodynamic properties of non-interacting particles under influence of the gravitational field of a traversable wormhole. In particular, we investigate how the thermodynamic quantities are affected by the Ellis wormhole geometry, considering three different regions to our study: asymptotically far, close to the throat, and at the throat. The thermodynamic quantities turn out to depend strongly on parameter that controls the wormhole throat radius. By varying it, there exist an expressive modification in the thermodynamic state quantities, exhibiting both usual matter and dark energy-like behaviors. Finally, the interactions are regarded to the energy density and it seems to indicate that it “cures” the dark energy-like features.

Title (down) Thermalisation of sterile neutrinos in the early universe in the 3+1 scheme with full mixing matrix Type Journal Article
Year 2019 Publication Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics Abbreviated Journal J. Cosmol. Astropart. Phys.
Volume 07 Issue 7 Pages 014 - 30pp
Keywords cosmological neutrinos; neutrino properties; particle physics – cosmology connection; physics of the early universe
Abstract In the framework of a 3+1 scheme with an additional inert state, we consider the thermalisation of sterile neutrinos in the early Universe taking into account the full 4 x 4 mixing matrix. The evolution of the neutrino energy distributions is found solving the momentum-dependent kinetic equations with full diagonal collision terms, as in previous analyses of flavour neutrino decoupling in the standard case. The degree of thermalisation of the sterile state is shown in terms of the effective number of neutrinos, N-eff, and its dependence on the three additional mixing angles (theta(14), theta(24), theta(34)) and on the squared mass difference Delta m(41)(2) is discussed. Our results are relevant for fixing the contribution of a fourth light neutrino species to the cosmological energy density, whose value is very well constrained by the final Planck analysis. For the preferred region of active-sterile mixing parameters from short-baseline neutrino experiments, we find that the fourth state is fully thermalised (N-eff similar or equal to 4).

Year 2023 Publication Astroparticle Physics Abbreviated Journal Astropart Phys.
Volume 146 Issue Pages 102793 - 9pp
Keywords Underground neutron background; Thermal neutron flux; He-3 proportional counter; Pulse shape discrimination
Abstract The thermal neutron background at Laboratorio Subterraneo de Canfranc (LSC) has been determined using several He-3 proportional counter detectors. Bare and Cd shielded counters were used in a series of long measurements. Pulse shape discrimination techniques were applied to discriminate between neutron and gamma signals as well as other intrinsic contributions. Montecarlo simulations allowed us to estimate the sensitivity of the detectors and calculate values for the background flux of thermal neutrons inside Hall-A of LSC. The obtained value is (3.5 +/- 0.8)x10(-6) n/cm(2)s, and is within an order of magnitude compared to similar facilities.

Title (down) Thermal analysis of photon-like particles in rainbow gravity Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Physics of the Dark Universe Abbreviated Journal Phys. Dark Universe
Volume 42 Issue Pages 101310 - 8pp
Keywords Rainbow gravity; Thermodynamics; Bounds
Abstract This work is devoted to study the thermodynamic behavior of photon-like particles within the rainbow gravity formalism. To to do this, we chose two particular ansatzs to accomplish our calculations. First, we consider a dispersion relation which avoids UV divergences, getting a positive effective cosmological constant. We provide numerical analysis for the thermodynamic functions of the system and bounds are estimated. Furthermore, a phase transition is also expected for this model. Second, we consider a dispersion relation employed in the context of Gamma Ray Bursts. Remarkably, for this latter case, the thermodynamic properties are calculated in an analytical manner and they turn out to depend on the harmonic series Hn, gamma & UGamma; (z), polygamma & psi;n(z) and zeta Riemann functions & zeta;(z).
