Abstract: The rho rho N and rho rho Delta three-body systems have been studied within the framework of the fixed center approximation of Faddeev equation. The rho rho interaction in isospin I = 0, spin S = 2 is strongly attractive, and so are the N rho, Delta rho interactions. This leads to bound states of both rho rho N and rho rho Delta. We find peaks of the modulus squared of the scattering matrix around 2227 MeV for rho rho N, and 2372 MeV for rho rho Delta. Yet, the strength of the peak for the rho rho N amplitude is much smaller than for rho rho Delta, weakening the case for a rho rho N bound state, or a dominant rho rho N component. A discussion is made on how these states can be searched for in present programs looking for multimeson final states in different reactions.

Abstract: The bottom-up approach of the AdS/CFT correspondence leads to the study of field equations in an AdS(5) background and from their solutions to the determination of the hadronic mass spectrum. We extend the study to the equations of AdS(5) gravitons and determine from them the glueball spectrum. We propose an original presentation of the results which facilitates the comparison of the various models with the spectrum obtained by lattice QCD. This comparison allows to draw some phenomenological conclusions.

Abstract: Phase shifts and resonance parameters can be obtained from finite-volume lattice spectra for interacting pairs of particles, moving with non-zero total momentum. We present a simple derivation of the method that is subsequently applied to obtain the pi pi and pi K phase shifts in the sectors with total isospin I – 0 and I – 1/2, respectively. Considering different total momenta, one obtains extra data points for a given volume that allow for a very efficient extraction of the resonance parameters in the infinite-volume limit. Corrections due to the mixing of partial waves are provided. We expect that our results will help to optimize the strategies in lattice simulations, which aim at an accurate determination of the scattering and resonance properties.

Abstract: The low-spin structure of the nearly spherical nucleus Gd-146 was studied using the Sm-144(He-4, 2n) fusion-evaporation reaction. High-statistics gamma-gamma coincidence measurements were performed at iThemba LABS with 7x10(9) gamma-gamma coincidence events recorded. Gated gamma-ray energy spectra show evidence for the 6(2)(+) -> 3(1)(-) -> 0(1)(+) cascade of E3 transitions in agreement with recent findings by Caballero and co-workers, but with a smaller branching ratio of I-gamma = 4.7(10) for the 6(2)(+) -> 3(1)(-) 1905.1 keV gamma ray. Although these findings may support octupole vibrations in spherical nuclei, sophisticated beyond mean-field calculations including angular-momentum projection are required to interpret in an appropriate way the available data due to the failure of the rotational model assumptions in this nucleus.

Abstract: The N = Z = 36 nucleus Kr-72 has been studied by inelastic scattering at intermediate energies. Two targets, Be-9 and Au-197, were used to extract the nuclear deformation length, delta(N), and the reduced E2 transition probability, B(E2). The previously unknown non-yrast 2(+) and 4(+) states as well as a new candidate for the octupole 3(-) state have been observed in the scattering on the Be target and placed in the level scheme based on gamma – gamma coincidences. The second 2(+) state was also observed in the scattering on the Au target and the B(E2; 2(2)(+) -> 0(1)(+)) value could be determined for the first time. Analyzing the results in terms of a two-band mixing model shows clear evidence for a oblate-prolate shape coexistence and can be explained by a shape change from an oblate ground state to prolate deformed yrast band from the first 2+ state. This interpretation is corroborated by beyond mean field calculations using the Gogny D1S interaction.
