Title (down) Studies of the resonance structure in D-0 -> (KSK +/-)-K-0 pi(-/+) decays Type Journal Article

Volume 93 Issue 5 Pages 052018 - 35pp
Keywords
Abstract Amplitude models are applied to studies of resonance structure in D-0 -> (KSK-)-K-0 pi(+) and D-0 -> (KSK+)-K-0 pi(-) decays using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment. Relative magnitude and phase information is determined, and coherence factors and related observables are computed for both the whole phase space and a restricted region of 100 MeV/c(2) around the K*(892)(+/-) resonance. Two formulations for the K pi S-wave are used, both of which give a good description of the data. The ratio of branching fractions B(D-0 -> (KSK+)-K-0 pi(-))/B(D-0 -> (KSK-)-K-0 pi(+)) is measured to be 0.655 +/- 0.004(stat) +/- 0.006(syst) over the full phase space and 0.370 +/- 0.003(stat) +/- 0.012(syst) in the restricted region. A search for CP violation is performed using the amplitude models and no significant effect is found. Predictions from SU(3) flavor symmetry for K*(892)K amplitudes of different charges are compared with the amplitude model results.

Title (down) String completion of an SU(3)(c) x SU(3)(L) x U(1)(X) electroweak model Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
Volume 759 Issue Pages 471-478
Keywords Unification; Branes; String phenomenology; Neutrino mass; Neutron-antineutron oscillations
Abstract The extended electroweak SU(3)(c) circle times SU(3)(L) circle times U(1)(X) symmetry framework “explaining” the number of fermion families is revisited. While 331-based schemes can not easily be unified within the conventional field theory sense, we show how to do it within an approach based on D-branes and (un)oriented open strings, on Calabi-Yau singularities. We show how the theory can be UV-completed in a quiver setup, free of gauge and string anomalies. Lepton and baryon numbers are perturbatively conserved, so neutrinos are Dirac-type, and their lightness results from a novel TeV scale seesaw mechanism. Dynamical violation of baryon number by exotic instantons could induce neutron-antineutron oscillations, with proton decay and other dangerous R-parity violating processes strictly forbidden. Title (down) States of rho B*(B)over-bar* with J=3 within the fixed center approximation to Faddeev equations Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication European Physical Journal A Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. A
Volume 52 Issue 4 Pages 106 - 8pp
Keywords
Abstract In this work we stu dy the rho B*(B) over bar* three-body system solving the Faddeev equations in the fixed center approximation. We assume the B*B* system forming a cluster, and in terms of the two-body rho B* unitarized scattering amplitudes in the local hidden gauge approach we find a new I(J(PC)) = 1(3(--)) state. The mass of the new state corresponds to a two-particle invariant mass of the rho B* system close to the resonant energy of the B-2(*) (5747), indicating that the role of this J = 2 resonance is important in the dynamical generation of the new state.

Title (down) Sensors for the End-cap prototype of the Inner Tracker in the ATLAS Detector Upgrade Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Nuclear Instruments & Methods in Physics Research A Abbreviated Journal Nucl. Instrum. Methods Phys. Res. A
Volume 833 Issue Pages 226-232
Keywords Silicon radiation detectors; Strip sensors; HL-LHC; ATLAS Upgrade; Inner Tracker (ITk); End-cap
Abstract The new silicon microstrip sensors of the End-cap part of the HL-LHC ATLAS Inner Tracker (ITk) present a number of challenges due to their complex design features such as the multiple different sensor shapes, the varying strip pitch, or the built-In stereo angle. In order to investigate these specific problems, the “petalet” prototype was defined as a small End-cap prototype. The sensors for the petalet prototype include several new layout and technological solutions to investigate the issues, they have been tested in detail by the collaboration. The sensor description and detailed test results are presented in this paper. New software tools have been developed for the automatic layout generation of the complex designs. The sensors have been fabricated, characterized and delivered to the institutes in the collaboration for their assembly on petalet prototypes. This paper describes the lessons learnt from the design and tests of the new solutions implemented on these sensors, which are being used for the full petal sensor development. This has resulted in the ITIc strip, community acquiring the necessary expertise to develop the full End-cap structure, the petal.
