Title (down) Perturbativity and mass scales in the minimal left-right symmetric model Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 94 Issue 3 Pages 035008 - 11pp
  Keywords
Abstract The scalar sector of the minimal left-right model at TeV scale is revisited in light of the large quartic coupling needed for a heavy flavor-changing scalar. The stability and perturbativity of the effective potential is discussed and merged with constraints from low-energy processes. Thus, the perturbative level of the left-right scale is sharpened. Lower limits on the triplet scalars are also derived: The left-handed triplet is bounded by oblique parameters, while the doubly charged right-handed component is limited by the h -> gamma gamma, Z gamma decays. Current constraints disfavor their detection as long as W-R is within the reach of the LHC.

Title (down) Parton-to-pion fragmentation reloaded Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 91 Issue 1 Pages 014035 - 17pp
  Keywords
Abstract We present a new, comprehensive global analysis of parton-to-pion fragmentation functions at next-to-leading-order accuracy in QCD. The obtained results are based on the latest experimental information on single-inclusive pion production in electron-positron annihilation, lepton-nucleon deep-inelastic scattering, and proton-proton collisions. An excellent description of all data sets is achieved, and the remaining uncertainties in parton-to-pion fragmentation functions are estimated based on the Hessian method. Extensive comparisons to the results from our previous global analysis are performed.

Title (down) Parton correlations in same-sign W pair production via double parton scattering at the LHC Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 95 Issue 11 Pages 114030 - 6pp
  Keywords
Abstract Same-sign W boson pair production is a promising channel to look for signatures of double parton interactions at the LHC. The corresponding cross section has been calculated by using double parton distribution functions, encoding two parton correlations, evaluated in a light-front quark model. The obtained result is in line with previous estimates which make use of an external parameter, the so-called effective cross section, not necessary in our approach. The possibility to observe for the first time two-parton correlations, in the next LHC runs, has been established.

Title (down) Particle production in the interiors of acoustic black holes Type Journal Article
Year 2019 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 100 Issue 10 Pages 105021 - 13pp

Abstract Phonon creation inside the horizons of acoustic black holes is investigated using two simple toy models. It is shown that, unlike what occurs in the exterior regions, the spectrum is not thermal. This nonthermality is due to the anomalous scattering that occurs in the interior regions.

Title (down) Parameterized nonrelativistic limit of stellar structure equations in Ricci-based gravity theories Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 104 Issue 2 Pages 024045 - 8pp
  Keywords
Abstract We present the nonrelativistic limit of the stellar structure equations of Ricci-based gravities, a family of metric-affine theories whose Lagrangian is built via contractions of the metric with the Ricci tensor of an a priori independent connection. We find that this limit is characterized by four parameters that arise in the expansion of several geometric quantities in powers of the stress-energy tensor of the matter fields. We discuss the relevance of this result for the phenomenology of nonrelativistic stars, such as main-sequence stars as well as several substellar objects.

Title (down) Palatini f(R) black holes in nonlinear electrodynamics Type Journal Article
Year 2011 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 84 Issue 12 Pages 124059 - 14pp
  Keywords
Abstract The electrically charged Born-Infeld black holes in the Palatini formalism for f(R) theories are analyzed. Specifically we study those supported by a theory f(R) = R +/- R(2)/R(P), where R(P) is Planck's curvature. These black holes only differ from their General Relativity counterparts very close to the center but may give rise to different geometrical structures in terms of inner horizons. The nature and strength of the central singularities are also significantly affected. In particular, for the model f(R) = R – R(2)/R(P) the singularity is shifted to a finite radius, r(+), and the Kretschmann scalar diverges only as 1/(r-r(+))(2).

Title (down) Pair production due to an electric field in 1+1 dimensions and the validity of the semiclassical approximation Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 103 Issue 10 Pages 105003 - 23pp
  Keywords
Abstract Solutions to the backreaction equation in 1 + 1-dimensional semiclassical electrodynamics are obtained and analyzed when considering a time-varying homogeneous electric field initially generated by a classical electric current, coupled to either a quantized scalar field or a quantized spin-1/2 field. Particle production by way of the Schwinger effect leads to backreaction effects that modulate the electric field strength. Details of the particle production process are investigated along with the transfer of energy between the electric field and the particles. The validity of the semiclassical approximation is also investigated using a criterion previously implemented for chaotic inflation and, in an earlier form, semiclassical gravity. The criterion states that the semiclassical approximation will break down if any linearized gauge-invariant quantity constructed from solutions to the linear response equation, with finite nonsingular data, grows rapidly for some period of time. Approximations to homogeneous solutions of the linear response equation are computed and it is found that the criterion is violated when the maximum value, E-max, obtained by the electric field is of the order of the critical scale for the Schwinger effect, E-max similar to E-crit m(2)/q, where m is the mass of the quantized field and q is its electric charge. For these approximate solutions the criterion appears to be satisfied in the extreme limits qE(max)/m(2) << 1 and qE(max)/m(2) >> 1.

Title (down) Pair creation in electric fields, anomalies, and renormalization of the electric current Type Journal Article

  Volume 97 Issue 12 Pages 125012 - 13pp

Abstract We investigate the Schwinger pair production phenomena in spatially homogeneous strong electric fields. We first consider scalar QED in four-dimensions and discuss the potential ambiguity in the adiabatic order assignment for the electromagnetic potential required to fix the renormalization subtractions. We argue that this ambiguity can be solved by invoking the conformal anomaly when both electric and gravitational backgrounds are present. We also extend the adiabatic regularization method for spinor QED in two-dimensions and find consistency with the chiral anomaly. We focus on the issue of the renormalization of the electric current < j(mu)> generated by the created pairs. We illustrate how to implement the renormalization of the electric current for the Sauter pulse.

Title (down) On the description of nonunitary neutrino mixing Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 92 Issue 5 Pages 053009 - 16pp
  Keywords
Abstract Neutrino oscillations are well established and the relevant parameters determined with good precision, except for the CP phase, in terms of a unitary lepton mixing matrix. Seesaw extensions of the Standard Model predict unitarity deviations due to the admixture of heavy isosinglet neutrinos. We provide a complete description of the unitarity and universality deviations in the light-neutrino sector. Neutrino oscillation experiments involving electron or muon neutrinos and antineutrinos are fully described in terms of just three new real parameters and a new CP phase, in addition to the ones describing oscillations with unitary mixing. Using this formalism we describe the implications of nonunitarity for neutrino oscillations and summarize the model-independent constraints on heavy-neutrino couplings that arise from current experiments.

Title (down) Omega(-)(b) -> (Xi(+)(c) K-)pi(-) decay and the Omega(c) states Type Journal Article
Year 2018 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 98 Issue 9 Pages 094022 - 8pp
  Keywords
Abstract We study the weak decay Omega(-)(b) -> (Xi(+)(c) K-)pi(-), in view of the narrow Omega(c) states recently measured by the LHCb Collaboration and later confirmed by the Belle Collaboration. The Omega(c) (3050) and Omega(c) (3090) are described as meson-baryon molecular states, using an extension of the local hidden gauge approach in coupled channels. We investigate the Xi D, Xi(c)(K) over bar, and. Xi '(c) (K) over bar invariant mass distributions making predictions that could be confronted with future experiments, providing useful information that could help determine the quantum numbers and nature of these states.
