Abstract In a sample of 471 x 10(6) B (B) over bar events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e(+)e(-) collider we study the rare decays B -> K((*))l(+)l(-), where l(+)l(-) is either e(+)e(-) or mu(+)mu(-). We report results on partial branching fractions and isospin asymmetries in seven bins of dilepton mass-squared. We further present CP and lepton-flavor asymmetries for dilepton masses below and above the J/psi resonance. We find no evidence for CP or lepton-flavor violation. The partial branching fractions and isospin asymmetries are consistent with the Standard Model predictions and with results from other experiments.

Title (down) Measurement of B (B -> Xs gamma), the B -> Xs gamma photon energy spectrum, and the direct CP asymmetry in B -> Xs+d gamma decays Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 86 Issue 11 Pages 112008 - 33pp
  Keywords
  Abstract The photon spectrum in B -> X-s gamma decay, where X-s is any strange hadronic state, is studied using a data sample of (382.8 +/- 4.2) x 10(6) e(+)e(-) -> Upsilon(4S) -> B (B) over bar events collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II collider. The spectrum is used to measure the branching fraction B(B -> X-s gamma) (3.21 +/- 0.15 +/- 0.29 +/- 0.08) x 10(-4) and the first, second, and third moments < E-gamma > = 2.267 +/- 0.019 +/- 0.032 +/- 0.003 GeV, <(E-gamma – < E-gamma >)(2)> = 0.0484 +/- 0.0053 +/- 0.0077 +/- 0.0005 GeV2, and <(E-gamma – < E-gamma)(3)> = -0.0048 +/- 0.0011 +/- 0.0011 +/- 0.0004 GeV3, for the range E-gamma > 1.8 GeV, where E-gamma is the photon energy in the B-meson rest frame. Results are also presented for narrower E-gamma ranges. In addition, the direct CP asymmetry A(CP)(B -> Xs+d gamma) is measured to be 0.057 +/- 0.063. The spectrum itself is also unfolded to the B-meson rest frame; that is the frame in which theoretical predictions for its shape are made.

Title (down) Measurement of atmospheric neutrino oscillations with the ANTARES neutrino telescope Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
  Volume 714 Issue 2-5 Pages 224-230
Keywords Neutrino oscillations; Neutrino telescope; ANTARES
Abstract The data taken with the ANTARES neutrino telescope from 2007 to 2010, a total live time of 863 days, are used to measure the oscillation parameters of atmospheric neutrinos. Muon tracks are reconstructed with energies as low as 20 GeV. Neutrino oscillations will cause a suppression of vertical upgoing muon neutrinos of such energies crossing the Earth. The parameters determining the oscillation of atmospheric neutrinos are extracted by fitting the event rate as a function of the ratio of the estimated neutrino energy and reconstructed flight path through the Earth. Measurement contours of the oscillation parameters in a two-flavour approximation are derived. Assuming maximal mixing, a mass difference of Delta m(32)(2) = (3.1 +/- 0.9) . 10(-3) eV(2) is obtained, in good agreement with the world average value.

Title (down) Measurement and resonance analysis of the Np-237 neutron capture cross section Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
  Volume 85 Issue 4 Pages 044616 - 15pp
  Keywords
Abstract The neutron capture cross section of Np-237 was measured between 0.7 and 500 eV at the CERN n_TOF facility using the 4 pi BaF2 Total Absorption Calorimeter. The experimental capture yield was extracted minimizing all the systematic uncertainties and was analyzed together with the most reliable transmission data available using the SAMMY code. The result is a complete set of individual as well as average resonance parameters [D-0 = 0.56(2) eV, <Gamma(gamma)> = 40.9(18) meV, 10(4)S(0) = 0.98(6), R' = 9.8(6) fm]. The capture cross section obtained in this work is in overall agreement with the evaluations and the data of Weston and Todd [Nucl. Sci. Eng. 79, 184 (1981)], thus showing sizable differences with respect to previous data from Scherbakov et al. [J. Nucl. Sci. Technol. 42, 135 (2005)] and large discrepancies with data Kobayashi et al. [J. Nucl. Sci. Technol. 39, 111 (2002)]. The results indicate that a new evaluation combining the present capture data with reliable transmission data would allow reaching an accuracy better than 4%, in line with the uncertainty requirements of the nuclear data community for the design and operation of current and future nuclear devices.

Title (down) Massless bound-state excitations and the Schwinger mechanism in QCD Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 85 Issue 1 Pages 014018 - 21pp
  Keywords
Abstract The gauge-invariant generation of an effective gluon mass proceeds through the well-known Schwinger mechanism, whose key dynamical ingredient is the nonperturbative formation of longitudinally coupled massless bound-state excitations. These excitations introduce poles in the vertices of the theory, in such a way as to maintain the Slavnov-Taylor identities intact in the presence of massive gluon propagators. In the present work we first focus on the modifications induced to the nonperturbative three-gluon vertex by the inclusion of massless two-gluon bound states into the kernels appearing in its skeleton expansion. Certain general relations between the basic building blocks of these bound states and the gluon mass are then obtained from the Slavnov-Taylor identities and the Schwinger-Dyson equation governing the gluon propagator. The homogeneous Bethe-Salpeter equation determining the wave function of the aforementioned bound state is then derived, under certain simplifying assumptions. It is then shown, through a detailed analytical and numerical study, that this equation admits nontrivial solutions, indicating that the QCD dynamics support indeed the formation of such massless bound states. These solutions are subsequently used, in conjunction with the aforementioned relations, to determine the momentumdependence of the dynamical gluon mass. Finally, further possibilities and open questions are briefly discussed.
