Abstract: Magnetic monopoles have been a subject of interest since Dirac established the relation between the existence of monopoles and charge quantization. The intense experimental search carried thus far has not met with success. The Large Hadron Collider is reaching energies never achieved before allowing the search for exotic particles in the TeV mass range. In a continuing effort to discover these rare particles we propose here other ways to detect them. We study the observability of monopoles and monopolium, a monopole-antimonopole bound state, at the Large Hadron Collider in the gamma gamma channel for monopole masses in the range 500-1000 GeV. We conclude that LHC is an ideal machine to discover monopoles with masses below 1 TeV at present running energies and with 5 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity.

Abstract: MoEDAL is designed to identify new physics in the form of stable or pseudostable highly ionizing particles produced in high-energy Large Hadron Collider (LHC) collisions. Here we update our previous search for magnetic monopoles in Run 2 using the full trapping detector with almost four times more material and almost twice more integrated luminosity. For the first time at the LHC, the data were interpreted in terms of photon-fusion monopole direct production in addition to the Drell-Yan-like mechanism. The MoEDAL trapping detector, consisting of 794 kg of aluminum samples installed in the forward and lateral regions, was exposed to 4.0 fb(-1) of 13 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHCb interaction point and analyzed by searching for induced persistent currents after passage through a superconducting magnetometer. Magnetic charges equal to or above the Dirac charge are excluded in all samples. Monopole spins 0, 1/2, and 1 are considered and both velocity-independent and-dependent couplings are assumed. This search provides the best current laboratory constraints for monopoles with magnetic charges ranging from two to five times the Dirac charge.

Abstract: The Hannay geometric phase is the classical analog of the well-known Berry phase. Its most familiar example is the effect of the latitude lambda on the motion of a Foucault pendulum. We describe an electronic network whose behavior is exactly equivalent to that of the pendulum. The circuit can be constructed from off-the-shelf components using two matched transconductance amplifiers that comprise a gyrator to introduce the non-reciprocal behavior needed to mimic the pendulum. One may precisely measure the dependence of the Hannay phase on lambda by circuit simulation and by laboratory measurements on a constructed circuit.

Abstract: The behavior of the nucleon structure functions in lepton nuclei deep inelastic scattering, both polarized and unpolarized, due to nuclear structure effects is reanalyzed. The study is performed in two schemes: an x-rescaling approach, and one in which there is an increase of sea quark components in the in-medium nucleon, related to the low-energy N-N interaction. In view of a recent interesting experimental proposal to study the behavior of the proton spin structure functions in nuclei we proceed to compare these approaches in an effort to enlighten the possible phenomenological interest of such difficult experiment.

Abstract: The graviton soft wall (GSW) model provides a unified description of the scalar glueball and meson spectra with a unique energy scale. This success has led us to extend the analysis to the description of the spectra of other hadrons. We use this model to calculate masses of the odd and even ground states of glueballs for various spins, and show that the GSW model is able to reproduce the Regge trajectory of these systems. In addition, the spectra of the rho, a(1 )and eta mesons will be addressed. Results are in excellent agreement with current experimental data. Furthermore such an achievement is obtained without any additional parameters. Indeed, the only two parameters appearing in these spectra are those that were previously fixed by the light scalar meson and glueball spectra. Finally, in order to describe the pi meson spectrum, a suitable modification of the dilaton profile function has been included in the analysis to properly take into account the Goldstone realisation of chiral symmetry. The present investigation confirms that the GSW model provides an excellent description of the spectra of mesons and glueballs with only a small number of parameters unveiling a relevant predicting power.

Abstract: We discuss the impact of recent Belle data on our description of the pion transition form factor based on the assumption that a perturbative formalism and a nonperturbative one can be matched in a physically acceptable manner at a certain hadronic scale Q(0). We discuss the implications of the different parameters of the model in comparing with world data and conclude that within experimental errors our description remains valid. Thus we can assert that the low Q(2) nonperturbative description together with an additional 1/Q(2) term at the matching scale have a strong influence on the Q(2) behavior up to very high values of Q(2).

Abstract: Models of hadron structure are associated with a hadronic scale which allows by perturbative evolution to calculate observables in the deep inelastic region. The resolution of Dyson-Schwinger equations leads to the freezing of the QCD running coupling (effective charge) in the infrared, which is best understood as a dynamical generation of a gluon mass function, giving rise to a momentum dependence which is free from infrared divergences. We use this new development to understand why perturbative treatments are working reasonably well despite the smallness of the hadronic scale.

Abstract: It has been recently confirmed that the magnitude of the EMC effect measured in the electron deep inelastic scattering is linearly related to the short-range correlation scaling factor obtained from electron inclusive scattering. By using a x-rescaling approach we are able to understand the interplay between the quark-gluon and hadronic degrees of freedom in the discussion of the EMC effect.

Abstract: A Hawking-Page phase transition between anti-de Sitter (AdS) thermal and AdS black hole was presented as a mechanism for explaining the QCD deconfinement phase transition within holographic models. In order to implement temperature dependence in the confined phase we use a hard-wall AdS/QCD model, where the geometry at low temperatures is described also by a black hole metric. We then investigate the temperature dependence of glueball states described as gravitons propagating in deformed background spaces. Finally, we use potential models to physically describe the implications of our study.

Abstract: The existence of monopoles is a characteristic signature of Kaluza-Klein multidimensional theories. The topology of these solutions is extremely interesting. The existence of a dipole solution, which we have associated to a monopole-anti-monopole bound state, is the leitmotiv of this investigation. The dipole in its lowest energy state, which we here call also monopolium, is electromagnetically inert in free space interacting only gravitationally. Monopolium when interacting with time dependent magnetic fields acquires a time dependent induced magnetic moment and radiates. We have analyzed the most favorable astrophysical scenario for radiative monopolium and found that the amount of radiation is so small that is not detectable by conventional equipments. These findings suggest that Kaluza-Klein monopolium, if existent, would be a candidate for a primordial dark matter constituent.
