Title Constraints on subleading interactions in beta decay Lagrangian Type Journal Article
Year 2024 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 02 Issue 2 Pages 091 - 54pp
Keywords Effective Field Theories; Hadronic Matrix Elements and Weak Decays; Effective Field Theories of QCD; SMEFT
Abstract We discuss the effective field theory (EFT) for nuclear beta decay. The general quark-level EFT describing charged-current interactions between quarks and leptons is matched to the nucleon-level non-relativistic EFT at the OMeV momentum scale characteristic for beta transitions. The matching takes into account, for the first time, the effect of all possible beyond-the-Standard-Model interactions at the subleading order in the recoil momentum. We calculate the impact of all the Wilson coefficients of the leading and subleading EFT Lagrangian on the differential decay width in allowed beta transitions. As an example application, we show how the existing experimental data constrain the subleading Wilson coefficients corresponding to pseudoscalar, weak magnetism, and induced tensor interactions. The data display a 3.5 sigma evidence for nucleon weak magnetism, in agreement with the theory prediction based on isospin symmetry.

Title Measurement of the Λb0 → Λ(1520)μ+μ- Differential Branching Fraction Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.

Abstract The branching fraction of the rare decay Lambda(0 )(b)-> Lambda(1520)mu(+)mu(-) is measured for the first time, in the squared dimuon mass intervals q(2), excluding the J/psi and psi(2S) regions. The data sample analyzed was collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1). The result in the highest q(2) interval, q(2) > 15.0 GeV2/c(4), where theoretical predictions have the smallest model dependence, agrees with the predictions.

Title Casimir effect in a Lorentz-violating tensor extension of a scalar field theory Type Journal Article
Year 2024 Publication European Physical Journal Plus Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. Plus
  Volume 139 Issue 2 Pages 165 - 12pp

Abstract This paper investigates the Casimir energy modifications due to the Lorentz-violating CPT-even contribution in an extension of the scalar QED. We have considered the complex scalar field satisfying Dirichlet boundary conditions between two parallel plates separated by a small distance. An appropriate tensor parametrization allowed us to study the Casimir effect in three different configurations: isotropic, anisotropic parity-odd, and anisotropic parity-even. We have shown that the Lorentz-violating contributions can promote either an increase or a decrease in the Casimir energy evaluated in the isotropic configuration, depending on whether the violation parameters are taking as positive or negative values. On the other hand, for the anisotropic parity-even case the Casimir energy only decreases, while for the anisotropic parity-odd cases it only increases. Therefore, from these last two results it seems that the Casimir energy is sensitive to the parity of Lorentz-violating coefficients.

Title Evolution of compact states to molecular ones with coupled channels: The case of the X(3872) Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 108 Issue 11 Pages 114017 - 11pp
  Keywords
Abstract We study the molecular probability of the X(3872) in the D0 over bar D*0 and D+D*- channels in several scenarios. One of them assumes that the state is purely due to a genuine nonmolecular component. However, it gets unavoidably dressed by the meson components to the point that in the limit of zero binding of the D0 over bar D*0 component becomes purely molecular. Yet, the small but finite binding allows for a nonmolecular state when the bare mass of the genuine state approaches the D0 over bar D*0 threshold, but, in this case the system develops a small scattering length and a huge effective range for this channel in flagrant disagreement with present values of these magnitudes. Next we discuss the possibility to have hybrid states stemming from the combined effect of a genuine state and a reasonable direct interaction between the meson components, where we find cases in which the scattering length and effective range are still compatible with data, but even then the molecular probability is as big as 95%. Finally, we perform the calculations when the binding stems purely from the direct interaction between the meson-meson components. In summary we conclude, that while present data definitely rule out the possibility of a dominant nonmolecular component, the precise value of the molecular probability requires a more precise determination of the scattering length and effective range of the D0 over bar D*0 channel, as well as the measurement of these magnitudes for the D+D*- channel which have not been determined experimentally so far.

Title The Fuzzy Bit Type Journal Article
  Year 2023 Publication Symmetry-Basel Abbreviated Journal Symmetry-Basel
  Volume 15 Issue 12 Pages 2103 - 25pp
Keywords fuzzy sets; quantum logic; multivalued logic; Quantum Mechanics
Abstract In this paper, the formulation of Quantum Mechanics in terms of fuzzy logic and fuzzy sets is explored. A result by Pykacz, which establishes a correspondence between (quantum) logics (lattices with certain properties) and certain families of fuzzy sets, is applied to the Birkhoff-von Neumann logic, the lattice of projectors of a Hilbert space. Three cases are considered: the qubit, two qubits entangled, and a qutrit 'nested' inside the two entangled qubits. The membership functions of the fuzzy sets are explicitly computed and all the connectives of the fuzzy sets are interpreted as operations with these particular membership functions. In this way, a complete picture of the standard quantum logic in terms of fuzzy sets is obtained for the systems considered.
