Abstract We perform a study of the D-s(+) -> a(0)(980) (f(0)(980))e(+)nu(e) reactions investigating the different sources of isospin violation which make the production of the a0(980) possible. We find that loops involving kaons in the production mechanism provide a source of isospin violation since they do not cancel due to the different mass of charged and neutral kaons, but we also find that the main source comes from the breaking of isospin in the meson-meson transition T matrices, which contain information on the nature of the low lying scalar mesons. The reaction is thus very sensitive to the nature of the a(0)(980) and f(0)(980) resonances. Our results are consistent with the present upper bound for a(0)(980) production and only a factor three smaller, indicating that future runs with more statistics should find actual numbers for this reaction from where we can learn more about the origin of the scalar resonances and their nature.

Title The GALILEO gamma-ray array at the Legnaro National Laboratories Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Nuclear Instruments & Methods in Physics Research A Abbreviated Journal Nucl. Instrum. Methods Phys. Res. A

Keywords High-resolution gamma-ray spectroscopy; HPGe; Silicon; Neutron; Electronics; DAQ
Abstract GALILEO, a new 4 pi high-resolution gamma-detection array, based on HPGe detectors, has been developed and installed at the Legnaro National Laboratories. The GALILEO array greatly benefits from a fully-digital readout chain, customized DAQ, and a variety of complementary detectors to improve the resolving power by the detection of particles, ions or high-energy gamma-ray transitions. In this work, a full description of the array, including electronics and DAQ, is presented together with its complementary instrumentation.

Abstract We argue that high-quality data on the reaction e(+)e(-) -> pi(+) pi(-) eta will allow one to determine the doubly-virtual form factor eta -> gamma*gamma* in a model-independent way with controlled accuracy. This is an important step towards a reliable evaluation of the hadronic light-by-light scattering contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of themuon. When analyzing the existing data for e(+) e(-) -> pi(+) pi(-) eta for total energies squared k(2) > 1GeV(2), we demonstrate that the effect of the a(2) meson provides a natural breaking mechanism for the commonly employed factorization ansatz in the doubly-virtual form factor F-eta gamma*gamma* (q(2), k(2)). However, better data are needed to draw firm conclusions.

Title Cosmological radiation density with non-standard neutrino-electron interactions Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B

Keywords Neutrino interactions; Non-standard neutrino interactions; Cosmology; Neutrino oscillations
Abstract Neutrino non-standard interactions (NSI) with electrons are known to alter the picture of neutrino de coupling from the cosmic plasma. NSI modify both flavour oscillations through matter effects, and the annihilation and scattering between neutrinos and electrons and positrons in the thermal plasma. In view of the forthcoming cosmological observations, we perform a precision study of the impact of non universal and flavour-changing NSI on the effective number of neutrinos, Neff. We present the variation of Neff arising from the different NSI parameters and discuss the existing degeneracies among them, from cosmology alone and in relation to the current bounds from terrestrial experiments. Even though cosmology is generally less sensitive to NSI than these experiments, we find that future cosmological data would provide competitive and complementary constraints for some of the couplings and their combinations.

Title The negative-parity spin-1/2 A baryon spectrum from lattice QCD and effective theory Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
  Volume 820 Issue Pages 136473 - 8pp

Abstract The spectrum of the negative-parity spin-1/2 Lambda baryons is studied using lattice QCD and hadronic effective theory in a unitarized coupled-channel framework. A direct comparison between the two approaches is possible by considering the hadronic effective theory in a finite volume and with hadron masses and mesonic decay constants that correspond to the situation studied on the lattice. Comparing the energy level spectrum and SU(3) flavor decompositions of the individual states, it is found that the lowest two states extracted from lattice QCD can be associated with one of the two Lambda(1405)-poles and the Lambda(1670) resonance. The quark mass dependences of these two lattice QCD levels are in good agreement with their effective theory counterparts. However, as current lattice QCD studies still rely on three-quark operators to generate the physical states, clear signals corresponding to the meson-baryon scattering states, that appear in the finite volume effective theory calculation, are not yet seen.
