Title Search for single production of vector-like T quarks decaying into Ht or Zt in pp collisions at √s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 08 Issue 8 Pages 153 - 69pp
Keywords Hadron-Hadron Scattering; Vector-Like Quarks
Abstract This paper describes a search for the single production of an up-type vector-like quark (T) decaying as T -> Ht or T -> Zt. The search utilises a dataset of pp collisions at root s = 13 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector during the 2015-2018 data-taking period of the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1). Data are analysed in final states containing a single lepton with multiple jets and b-jets. The presence of boosted heavy resonances in the event is exploited to discriminate the signal from the Standard Model background. No significant excess above the Standard Model expectation is observed, and 95% CL upper limits are set on the production cross section of T quarks in different decay channels. The results are interpreted in several benchmark scenarios to set limits on the mass and universal coupling strength (kappa) of the vector-like quark. For singlet T quarks, kappa values above 0.53 are excluded for all masses below 2.3 TeV. At a mass of 1.6 TeV, kappa values as low as 0.35 are excluded. For T quarks in the doublet scenario, where the production cross section is much lower, kappa values above 0.72 are excluded for all masses below 1.7 TeV, and this exclusion is extended to kappa above 0.55 for low masses around 1.0 TeV.

Title Measurement of the polarisation of W bosons produced in top-quark decays using dilepton events at √s=13TeV with the ATLAS experiment Type Journal Article

Abstract A measurement of the polarisation of Wbosons produced in top-quark decays is presented, using proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of v s= 13TeV. The data were collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139fb(-1). The measurement is performed selecting t tevents decaying into final states with two charged leptons (electrons or muons) and at least two b-tagged jets. The polarisation is extracted from the differential cross-section distribution of the cos theta* variable, where theta(*) is the angle between the momentum direction of the charged lepton from the Wboson decay and the reversed momentum direction of the b-quark from the top-quark decay, both calculated in the Wboson rest frame. Parton-level results, corrected for the detector acceptance and resolution, are presented for the cos theta* angle. The measured fractions of longitudinal, left- and right-handed polarisation states are found to be f(0) = 0.684 +/- 0.005 (stat.)+/- 0.014 (syst.), f(L)= 0.318 +/- 0.003 (stat.)+/- 0.008 (syst.) and f(R)=-0.002 +/- 0.002 (stat.)+/- 0.014 (syst.), in agreement with the Standard Model prediction.

Title Thermodynamical properties of an ideal gas in a traversable wormhole Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Classical and Quantum Gravity Abbreviated Journal Class. Quantum Gravity
Volume 40 Issue 24 Pages 245001 - 20pp
Keywords wormhole; thermodynamic properties; Ellis wormhole
Abstract In this work, we analyze the thermodynamic properties of non-interacting particles under influence of the gravitational field of a traversable wormhole. In particular, we investigate how the thermodynamic quantities are affected by the Ellis wormhole geometry, considering three different regions to our study: asymptotically far, close to the throat, and at the throat. The thermodynamic quantities turn out to depend strongly on parameter that controls the wormhole throat radius. By varying it, there exist an expressive modification in the thermodynamic state quantities, exhibiting both usual matter and dark energy-like behaviors. Finally, the interactions are regarded to the energy density and it seems to indicate that it “cures” the dark energy-like features.

Title Torsional birefringence in metric-affine Chern-Simons gravity: gravitational waves in late-time cosmology Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics Abbreviated Journal J. Cosmol. Astropart. Phys.
Volume 01 Issue 1 Pages 026 - 28pp
Keywords Gravitational waves in GR and beyond: theory; modified gravity; Cosmological perturbation theory in GR and beyond; Exact solutions; black holes and black hole thermodynamics in GR and beyond
Abstract In the context of the metric-affine Chern-Simons gravity endowed with projective invariance, we derive analytical solutions for torsion and nonmetricity in the homogeneous and isotropic cosmological case, described by a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker metric. We discuss in some details the general properties of the cosmological solutions in the presence of a perfect fluid, such as the dynamical stability and the emergence of big bounce points, and we examine the structure of some specific solutions reproducing de Sitter and power law behaviours for the scale factor. Then, we focus on first-order perturbations in the de Sitter scenario, and we study the propagation of gravitational waves in the adiabatic limit, looking at tensor and scalar polarizations. In particular, we find that metric tensor modes couple to torsion tensor components, leading to the appearance, as in the metric version of Chern-Simons gravity, of birefringence, characterized by different dispersion relations for the left and right circularized polarization states. As a result, the purely tensor part of torsion propagates like a wave, while nonmetricity decouples and behaves like a harmonic oscillator. Finally, we discuss scalar modes, outlining as they decay exponentially in time and do not propagate.

Title Limits on the nuclearite flux using the ANTARES neutrino telescope Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics Abbreviated Journal J. Cosmol. Astropart. Phys.
Volume 01 Issue 1 Pages 012 - 19pp
Keywords dark matter detectors; neutrino detectors
Abstract In this work, a search for nuclearites of strange quark matter by using nine years of ANTARES data taken in the period 2009-2017 is presented. The passage through matter of these particles is simulated taking into account a detailed description of the detector response to nuclearites and of the data acquisition conditions. A down-going flux of cosmic nuclearites with Galactic velocities (beta = 10(-3)) was considered for this study. The mass threshold for detecting these particles at the detector level is 4 x 10(13) GeV/c(2). Upper limits on the nuclearite flux for masses up to 10(17) GeV/c(2) at the level of similar to 5 x 10(-17) cm(-2) s(-1) sr(-1) are obtained. These are the first upper limits on nuclearites established with a neutrino telescope and the most stringent ever set for Galactic velocities.
