Abstract |
Background: Stellar nucleosynthesis of elements heavier than iron is driven by neutron capture processes. Zr-92 is positioned at a strategic point along the slow nucleosynthesis path, given its proximity to the neutron magic number N = 50 and its position at the matching region between the weak and main slow processes. Purpose: In parallel with recent improved astronomical data, the extraction of accurate Maxwellian averaged cross sections (MACSs) derived from a more complete and accurate set of resonance parameters should allow for a better understanding of the stellar conditions at which nucleosynthesis takes place. Methods: Transmission and capture cross section measurements using enriched Zr-92 metallic samples were performed at the time-of flight facilities GELINA of JRC-Geel (BE) and nTOF of CERN (CH). The neutron beam passing through the samples was investigated in transmission measurements at GELINA using a Li-glass scintillator. The gamma rays emitted during the neutron capture reactions were detected by C6D6 detectors at both GELINA and nTOF. Results: Resonance parameters of individual resonances up to 81 keV were extracted from a combined resonance shape analysis of experimental transmissions and capture yields. For the majority of the resonances the parity was determined from an analysis of the transmission data obtained with different sample thicknesses. Average resonance parameters were calculated. Conclusions: Maxwellian averaged cross sections were extracted from resonances observed up to 81 keV. The MACS for kT = 30 keV is fully consistent with experimental data reported in the literature. The MACSs for kT less than or similar to 15 keV are in good agreement with those derived from the ENDF/B-VIII.0 library and recommended in the KADoNTS database. For kT higher than 30 keV differences are observed. A comparison with MACSs obtained with the cross sections recommended in the JEFF-3.3 and JENDL-4.0 libraries shows discrepancies even for kT less than or similar to 15 keV. |

Abstract |
We report on the first search for electron-muon lepton flavor violation (LFV) in the decay of a b quark and b antiquark bound state. We look for the LFV decay Upsilon(3S) -> e(+/-) mu(-/+) in a sample of 118 million gamma(3S) mesons from 27 fb(-1) of data collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II e(+) e(-) collider operating with a 10.36 GeV center-of-mass energy. No evidence for a signal is found, and we set a limit on the branching fraction B[Upsilon(3S) -> e(+/-) mu(-/+)] < 3.6 x 10(-7) at 90% C. L. This result can be interpreted as a limit Lambda(NP)/g(NP)(2) > 80 TeV on the energy scale Lambda(NT) divided by the coupling-squared g(NP)(2) of relevant new physics (NP). |

Abstract |
We present here two concrete examples of models where a sub-TeV scale breaking of their respective T-13 and A(5) flavor symmetries is able to account for the recently observed discrepancy in the muon anomalous magnetic moment, (g – 2)(mu). Similarities in the flavor structures of the charged-lepton Yukawa matrix and dipole matrix yielding (g – 2)(mu) give rise to strong constraints on low-scale flavor models when bounds from lepton flavor violation (LFV) are imposed. These constraints place stringent limits on the off- diagonal Yukawa structure, suggesting a mostly (quasi)diagonal texture for models with a low flavor breaking scale A(f). We argue that many of the popular flavor models in the literature designed to explain the fermion masses and mixings are not suitable for reproducing the observed discrepancy in (g – 2)(mu), which requires a delicate balance of maintaining a low flavor scale while simultaneously satisfying strong LFV constraints. |

Abstract |
The photoproduction of J/psi mesons at low transverse momentum is studied in peripheral lead-lead collisions collected by the LHCb Collaboration at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 210 μb(-1). The J/psi candidates are reconstructed through the prompt decay into two muons of opposite charge in the rapidity region of 2.0 < y < 4.5. The results significantly improve previous measurements and are compared to the latest theoretical prediction. |

Abstract |
Events containing a Z boson and a charm jet are studied for the first time in the forward region of proton-proton collisions. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb(-1) collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the LHCb detector. In events with a Z boson and a jet, the fraction of charm jets is determined in intervals of Z-boson rapidity in the range 2.0 < y(Z) < 4.5. A sizable enhancement is observed in the forwardmost y(Z) interval, which could be indicative of a valencelike intrinsic-charm component in the proton wave function. |

Abstract |
We study the correspondence that connects the space of solutions of general relativity (GR) with that of Ricci-based gravity theories (RBGs) of the f(R, Q) type in the metric-affinc formulation, where Q = R(mu nu)R(mu nu). We focus on the case of scalar matter and show that when one considers a free massless scalar in the GR frame, important simplifications arise that allow one to establish the correspondence for arbitrary f (R, Q) Lagrangian. We particularize the analysis to a quadratic f (R, Q) theory and use the spherically symmetric, static solution of Jannis-Newman-Winicour as seed to generate new compact objects in our target theory. We find that two different types of solutions emerge, one representing naked singularities and another corresponding to asymmetric wormholes with bounded curvature scalars everywhere. The latter solutions, nonetheless, are geodesically incomplete. |

Abstract |
We study the evolution of the energy distribution and equation of state of the Universe from the end of inflation until the onset of either radiation domination (RD) or a transient period of matter domination (MD). We use both analytical techniques and lattice simulations. We consider two-field models where the inflaton (/) has a monomial potential after inflation V((/)) proportional to i(/) – vip (p 4, and of order similar to 50% for p 4. The system goes to MD at late times for p = 2, while it goes to RD for p > 2. In the later case, we can calculate exactly the number of e-folds until RD as a function of g2, and hence predict accurately inflationary observables like the scalar tilt ns and the tensor-to-scalar ratio r. In the scenario (ii), the energy is always transferred completely to X for p > 2, as long as its effective mass m2X = g2((/) – v)2 is not negligible. For p = 2, the final ratio between the energy densities of X and (/) depends strongly on g2. For all p > 2, the system always goes to MD at late times. |

Abstract |
The analysis of azimuthal correlations in multiparticle production can be useful to uncover the existence of new physics beyond the Standard Model, e.g., Hidden Valley, in e(+)e(-) annihilation at high energies. In this paper, based on previous theoretical studies and using the PYTHIA8 event generator, it is found that both azimuthal and rapidity long-range correlations are enhanced due to the presence of a new stage of matter on top of the QCD partonic cascade. Ridge structures, similar to those observed in hadronic collisions at the LHC, show up providing a possible signature of new physics at future e(+)e(-) colliders. |

Abstract |
We study the D*s over bar D* system in connection with the J=psi K* in coupled channels and observe that, within reasonable values of the cutoff used to regularize the loops, the system does not develop a bound state. However, the JP = 2+ channel has enough attraction to create a strong cusp structure that shows up in the J=psi K+ invariant mass distribution in the B+ -> J=psi phi K+ decay at the D*s over bar D* threshold. Such structure is results should stimulate further measurements around this region, given the fact that cusp effects provide as valuable information on hadron dynamics as resonances themselves. |

Abstract |
Direct lifetime measurements via gamma -gamma coincidences using a fast timing detector array consisting of LaBr3(Ce) scintillators has been applied to determine the lifetime of low-lying states in the semimagic (N = 50) nucleus Ru-94. The experiment was carried out as the first in a series of “FAIR-0” experiments with the DESPEC experimental setup at the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR). Excited states in Ru-94 were populated primarily via the beta-delayed proton emission of Pd-95 nuclei, produced in the projectile fragmentation of an 850 MeV/nucleon Xe-124 beam impinging on a 4 g/cm(2) Be-9 target. While the deduced E2 strength for the 2(+) -> 0(+) transition in the yrast cascade follows the expected behavior for conserved seniority symmetry, the intermediate 4(+) -> 2(+) transition exhibits a drastic enhancement of transition strength in comparison with pure-seniority model predictions as well as standard shell model predictions in the f pg proton hole space with respect to doubly magic Sn-100. The anomalous behavior is ascribed to a subtle interference between the wave function of the lowest seniority v = 2, I-pi = 4(+) state and that of a close-lying v = 4 state that exhibits partial dynamic symmetry. In addition, the observed strongly prohibitive 6(+) -> 4(+) transition can be attributed to the same mechanism but with a destructive interference. It is noted that such effects may provide stringent tests of the nucleon-nucleon interactions employed in state-of-the-art theoretical model calculations. |
