Abstract |
We study the perturbative renormalizability of chiral two-pion exchange in nucleon-nucleon scattering for p and d waves within the effective field theory approach. The one-pion exchange potential is fully iterated at the leading order in the expansion, a choice generating a consistent and well-defined power counting that we explore in detail. The results show that perturbative chiral two-pion exchange reproduces the data up to a center-of-mass momentum of k(cm) similar to 300 MeV at next-to-next-to-leading order and that the effective field theory expansion converges up to k(cm) similar to 350 MeV. |

Abstract |
The resolution of Dyson-Schwinger equations leads to the freezing of the QCD running coupling (effective charge) in the infrared, which is best understood as a dynamical generation of a gluon mass function, giving rise to a momentum dependence which is free from infrared divergences. We calculate the interquark static potential for heavy mesons by assuming that it is given by a massive One Gluon Exchange interaction and compare with phenomenologyical fits inspired by lattice QCD. We apply these potential forms to the description of quarkonia and conclude that, even though some aspects of the confinement mechanism are absent in the Dyson-Schwinger formalism, the spectrum can be reasonably reproduced. We discuss possible explanations for this outcome. |

Abstract |
Excited states in the Z = 19, N = 29 neutron-rich (48)K isotope have been studied using deep-inelastic transfer reactions with a thick target at Gammasphere and with a thin target at the PRISMA-CLARA spectrometer. The lowest excited states were located; they involve a proton hole in the s(1/2) or d(3/2) orbital coupled to a p(3/2) neutron. A new 7.1(5)-ns, 5(+) isomer, the analog of the 7/2 isomer in (47)K, was identified. Based on the observed gamma-decay pattern of the isomer a revised spin-parity assignment of 1(-) is proposed for the ground state of (48)K. |

Abstract |
A search for a Higgs boson has been performed in the H -> WW -> l nu jj channel in 1.04 fb(-1) of pp collision data at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess of events is observed over the expected background and limits on the Higgs boson production cross section are derived for a Higgs boson mass in the range 240 GeV < m(H) < 600 GeV. The best sensitivity is reached for m(H) = 400 GeV, where the 95% confidence level upper bound on the cross section for H -> WW production is 3.1 pb, or 2.7 times the standard model prediction. |

Abstract |
We report an analysis of charmless hadronic decays of charged B mesons to the final state K(+) pi(0)pi(0), using a data sample of (470.9 +/- 2.8) x 10(6) B (B) over bar events collected with the BABAR detector at the Y(4S) resonance. We observe an excess of signal events, with a significance above 10 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties, and measure the branching fraction and CP asymmetry to be B(B(+) -> K(+) pi(0)pi(0)) = (16.2 +/- 1.2 +/- 1.5) x 10(-6) and A(CP)(B(+) -> K(+) pi(0)pi(0)) = -0.06 +/- 0.06 +/- 0.04, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Additionally, we study the contributions of the B(+) -> K*(892)(+) pi(0), B(+) -> f(0)(980)K(+), and B(+) -> chi(c0)K(+) quasi-two-body decays. We report the world's best measurements of the branching fraction and CP asymmetry of the B(+) -> K(+) pi(0)pi(0) and B(+) -> K(+)(892)(+) pi(0) channels. |

Abstract |
We use a consistent SU(6) extension of the meson-baryon chiral Lagrangian within a coupled channel unitary approach in order to calculate the T matrix for meson-baryon scattering in the s wave. The building blocks of the scheme are the pi and N octets, the rho nonet and the UDELTA; decuplet. We identify poles in this unitary T matrix and interpret them as resonances. We study here the nonexotic sectors with strangeness S = 0, -1, -2, -3 and spin J = 1/2, 3/2 and 5/2. Many of the poles generated can be asociated with known N, UDELTA;, sigma, Lambda, Xi and Omega resonances with negative parity. We show that most of the low-lying three and four star odd-parity baryon resonances with spin 1/2 and 3/2 can be related to multiplets of the spin-flavor symmetry group SU(6). This study allows us to predict the spin-parity of the Xi (1620), Xi (1690), Xi (1950), Xi (2250), Omega (2250) and Omega (2380) resonances, which have not been determined experimentally yet. |

Abstract |
We present a new framework for the extraction of the strong coupling from hadronic tau decays through finite-energy sum rules. Our focus is on the small, but still significant nonperturbative effects that, in principle, affect both the central value and the systematic error. We employ a quantitative model in order to accommodate violations of quark-hadron duality, and enforce a consistent treatment of the higher-dimensional contributions of the operator product expansion to our sum rules. Using 1998 OPAL data for the nonstrange isovector vector and axial-vector spectral functions, we find the n(f) = 3 values alpha(s)(m(tau)(2)) = 0.307 +/- 0.019 in fixed-order perturbation theory, and 0.322 +/- 0.026 in contour-improved perturbation theory. For comparison, the original OPAL analysis of the same data led to the values 0.324 +/- 0.014 (fixed order) and 0.348 +/- 0.021 (contour improved). |

Abstract |
We present the results of a search for pair production of a heavy toplike (t') quark decaying to Wq final states using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.6 fb(-1) collected by the CDF II detector in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV. We perform parallel searches for t' -> Wb and t' -> Wq (where q is a generic down-type quark) in events containing a lepton and four or more jets. By performing a fit to the two-dimensional distribution of total transverse energy versus reconstructed t' quark mass, we set upper limits on the t'(t) over bar' production cross section and exclude a standard model fourth-generation t' quark decaying to Wb (Wq) with mass below 358 (340) GeV/c(2) at 95% C. Abstract |
The Z -> tau tau cross section is measured with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in four different final states determined by the decay modes of the tau leptons: muon-hadron, electron-hadron, electron-muon, and muon-muon. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb(-1), at a proton-proton center-of-mass energy of root s = 7 TeV. Cross sections are measured separately for each final state in fiducial regions of high detector acceptance, as well as in the full phase space, over the mass region 66-116 GeV. The individual cross sections are combined and the product of the total Z production cross section and Z -> tau tau branching fraction is measured to be 0.97 +/- 0.07(stat) +/- 0.06(syst) +/- 0: 03(lumi) nb, in agreement with next-to-next-to-leading order calculations. |

Abstract |
We report updated branching fraction measurements of the color-suppressed decays (B) over bar (0) -> D(0)pi(0), D*(0)pi(0), D(0)eta, D*(0)eta, D(0)omega, D*(0)omega, D(0)eta', and D*(0)eta'. We measure the branching fractions (x 10(-4)): B((B) over bar (0) -> D(0)pi(0)) = 2.69 +/- 0.09 +/- 0.13, B((B) over bar (0) -> D(0)pi(0)) = 3.05 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.28, B((B) over bar (0) -> D(0)eta) = 2.53 +/- 0.09 +/- 0.11, B((B) over bar (0) -> D(0)eta) = 2.69 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.23, B((B) over bar (0) -> D(0)eta) = 2.57 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.14, B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(0)omega) = 4.55 +/- 0.24 +/- 0.39, B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(0)omega) = 1.48 +/- 0.13 +/- 0.07, and B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(0)eta') = 1.49 +/- 0.22 +/- 0.15. We also present the first measurement of the longitudinal polarization fraction of the decay channel D*(0)omega, f(L) = (66.5 +/- 4.7 +/- 1.5)%. In the above, the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The results are based on a sample of (454 +/- 5) x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected at the Gamma(4S) resonance, with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings at SLAC. The measurements are the most precise determinations of these quantities from a single experiment. They are compared to theoretical predictions obtained by factorization, Soft Collinear Effective Theory (SCET) and perturbative QCD (pQCD). We find that the presence of final state interactions is favored and the measurements are in better agreement with SCET than with pQCD. |
