Abstract: In this paper we perform an amplitude analysis of eta ' -> pi(+)pi(-)gamma and confront it with the latest BESIII data. Based on the final-state interaction theorem, we represent the amplitude in terms of an Omnes function multiplied by a form factor that corresponds to the contributions from left-hand cuts and right-hand cuts in the inelastic channels. We also take into account the isospin violation effect induced by rho-omega mixing. Our results show that the anomaly contribution is mandatory in order to explain the data. Its contribution to the decay width of Gamma(eta ' -> pi pi gamma) is larger than that induced by isospin violation. Finally we extract the pole positions of the rho and omega as well as their corresponding residues.

Abstract: Measurements of ZZ production in the l(+)l(-)l'(+)l'(-) channel in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV center-of-mass energy at the Large Hadron Collider are presented. The data correspond to 36.1 fb(-1) of collisions collected by the ATLAS experiment in 2015 and 2016. Here l and l ' stand for electrons or muons. Integrated and differential ZZ -> l(+)l(-)l'(+)l'(-) cross sections with Z -> l(+)l(-) candidate masses in the range of 66 GeV to 116 GeV are measured in a fiducial phase space corresponding to the detector acceptance and corrected for detector effects. The differential cross sections are presented in bins of twenty observables, including several that describe the jet activity. The integrated cross section is also extrapolated to a total phase space and to all standard model decays of Z bosons with mass between 66 GeV and 116 GeV, resulting in a value of 17.3 +/- 0.9 [+/- 0.6(start) +/- 0.5 (syst) +/- 0.6 (lumi)] pb. The measurements are found to be in good agreement with the standard model. A search for neutral triple gauge couplings is performed using the transverse momentum distribution of the leading Z boson candidate. No evidence for such couplings is found and exclusion limits are set on their parameters.

Abstract: A detailed study of multiparticle azimuthal correlations is presented using pp data at root s = 5.02 and 13 TeV, and p+Pb data at root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV, recorded with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The azimuthal correlations are probed using four-particle cumulants c(n){4} and flow coefficients v(n){4} = (-c(n){4})(1/4) for n = 2 and 3, with the goal of extracting long-range multiparticle azimuthal correlation signals and suppressing the short-range correlations. The values of c(n){4} are obtained as a function of the average number of charged particles per event, < N-ch >, using the recently proposed two-subevent and three-subevent cumulant methods, and compared with results obtained with the standard cumulant method. The standard method is found to be strongly biased by short-range correlations, which originate mostly from jetswith a positive contribution to c(n){4}. The threesubevent method, on the other hand, is found to be least sensitive to short-range correlations. The three-subevent method gives a negative c(2){4}, and therefore a well-defined v(2){4}, nearly independent of < N-ch >, which implies that the long-range multiparticle azimuthal correlations persist to events with low multiplicity. Furthermore, v(2){4} is found to be smaller than the v(2){2} measured using the two-particle correlation method, as expected for long-range collective behavior. Finally, the measured values of v(2){4} and v(2){2} are used to estimate the number of sources relevant for the initial eccentricity in the collision geometry. The results based on the subevent cumulant technique provide direct evidence, in small collision systems, for a long-range collectivity involving many particles distributed across a broad rapidity interval.

Abstract: We report measurements of charm-mixing parameters based on the decay-time-dependent ratio of D-0 -> K+pi(-) to D-0 -> K-pi(+) rates. The analysis uses a data sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb(-1) recorded by the LHCb experiment from 2011 through 2016. Assuming charge-parity (CP) symmetry, the mixing parameters are determined to be x'(2) = (3.9 +/- 2.7) x 10(-5), y' = (5.28 +/- 0.52) x 10(-3), and R-D = (3.454 +/- 0.031) x 10(-3). Without this assumption, the measurement is performed separately for D-0 and (D) over bar (0) mesons, yielding a direct CP-violating asymmetry A(D) = (-0.1 +/- 9.1) x 10(-3), and magnitude of the ratio of mixing parameters 1.00 < vertical bar q/p vertical bar < 1.35 at the 68.3% confidence level. All results include statistical and systematic uncertainties and improve significantly upon previous single-measurement determinations. No evidence for CP violation in charm mixing is observed.

Abstract: In this work, we analyze the spatial and time variation of the fine structure constant (alpha) upon the theoretical framework developed by Bekenstein (Phys. Rev. D 66, 123514 (2002)). We have computed the field psi related to alpha at first order of the weak-field approximation and have also improved the estimation of the nuclear magnetic energy and, therefore, their contributions to the source term in the equation of motion of psi. We obtained that the results are similar to the ones published in L. Kraiselburd and H. Vucetich, Int. J. Mod. Phys. E 20, 101 (2011) which were computed using the zero order of the approximation, showing that one can neglect the first order contribution to the variation of the fine structure constant. Through the comparison between our theoretical results and the observational data of the Eotvos-type experiments or the time variation of alpha over the cosmological time scale, we set constraints on the free parameter of the Bekenstein model, namely the Bekenstein length.

Abstract: ACoulomb-excitation experiment to study electromagnetic properties of Ca-42 was performed using a 170-MeV calcium beam from the TANDEM XPU facility at INFN Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. gamma rays from excited states in Ca-42 were measured with the AGATA spectrometer. The magnitudes and relative signs of ten E2 matrix elements coupling six low-lying states in Ca-42, including the diagonal E2 matrix elements of 2(1)(+) and 2(2)(+) states, were determined using the least-squares code GOSIA. The obtained set of reduced E2 matrix elements was analyzed using the quadrupole sum rule method and yielded overall quadrupole deformation for 0(1),(+)(2) and 2(1,2)(+) states, as well as triaxiality for 0(1,2)(+) states, establishing the coexistence of a weakly deformed ground-state band and highly deformed slightly triaxial sideband in Ca-42. The experimental results were compared with the state-of-the-art large-scale shell-model and beyond-mean-field calculations, which reproduce well the general picture of shape coexistence in Ca-42.

Abstract: We have investigated the cross section for the pi(-) p -> K-0 pi Sigma and pp -> pK(+) pi Sigma reactions, paying attention to a mechanism that develops a triangle singularity. The triangle diagram is realized by the decay of a N* to K* Sigma and the K* decay into pi K, and the pi Sigma finally merges into Lambda (1405). The mechanism is expected to produce a peak around 2140 MeV in the K Lambda (1405) invariant mass. We found that a clear peak appears around 2100 MeV in the K Lambda (1405) invariant mass, which is about 40 MeV lower than the expectation, and that is due to the resonance peak of a N* resonance which plays a crucial role in the K* Sigma production. The mechanism studied produces the peak of the Lambda (1405) around or below 1400 MeV, as is seen in the pp -> pK(+) pi Sigma HADES experiment.

Abstract: We study the impact of assumptions about neutrino properties on the estimation of inflationary parameters from cosmological data, with a specific focus on the allowed contours in the n(s)/r plane, where n(s) is the scalar spectral index and r is the tensor-to-scalar ratio. We study the following neutrino properties: (i) the total neutrino mass M-i = Sigma(i)m(i) (where the index i = 1, 2, 3 runs over the three neutrino mass eigenstates); (ii) the number of relativistic degrees of freedom N-eff at the time of recombination; and (iii) the neutrino hierarchy. Whereas previous literature assumed three degenerate neutrino masses or two massless neutrino species (approximations that clearly do not match neutrino oscillation data), we study the cases of normal and inverted hierarchy. Our basic result is that these three neutrino properties induce < 1 sigma shift of the probability contours in the n(s)/r plane with both current or upcoming data. We find that the choice of neutrino hierarchy (normal, inverted, or degenerate) has a negligible impact. However, the minimal cutoff on the total neutrino mass M-v,M-min = 0 that accompanies previous works using the degenerate hierarchy does introduce biases in the n(s)/r plane and should be replaced by M-v,M-min = 0.059 eV as required by oscillation data. Using current cosmic microwave background (CMB) data from Planck and Bicep/Keck, marginalizing over the total neutrino mass M-v and over r can lead to a shift in the mean value of ns of similar to 0.3 sigma toward lower values. However, once baryon acoustic oscillation measurements are included, the standard contours in the n(s)/r plane are basically reproduced. Larger shifts of the contours in the n(s)/r plane (up to 0.8 sigma) arise for nonstandard values of N-eff. We also provide forecasts for the future CMB experiments Cosmic Origins Explorer (COrE, satellite) and Stage-IV (ground-based) and show that the incomplete knowledge of neutrino properties, taken into account by a marginalization over M-v, could induce a shift of similar to 0.4 sigma toward lower values in the determination of ns (or a similar to 0.8 sigma shift if one marginalizes over N-eff). Comparison to specific inflationary models is shown. Imperfect knowledge of neutrino properties must be taken into account properly, given the desired precision in determining whether or not inflationary models match the future data.

Abstract: We study the process e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-)eta gamma, where the photon is radiated from the initial state. About 8000 fully reconstructed events of this process are selected from the BABAR data sample with an integrated luminosity of 469 fb(-1). Using the pi(+)pi(-)eta invariant mass spectrum, we measure the e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-)eta cross section in the e(+)e(-) center-of-mass energy range from 1.15 to 3.5 GeV. The cross section is well described by the Vector-Meson dominance model with four.-like states. We observe 49 +/- 9 events of the J/Psi decay to pi(+)pi(-)eta and measure the product Gamma B-J/Psi -> e+e-(J/Psi ->pi+pi-eta) = 2.34 +/- 0.43(stat) +/- 0.16(syst) eV.

Abstract: We study discovery prospects for long-lived sterile neutrinos at the LHC with multitrack displaced vertices, with masses below the electroweak scale. We reinterpret current displaced vertex searches making use of publicly available, parametrized selection efficiencies for modeling the detector response to displaced vertices. We focus on the production of right-handed WR bosons and neutrinos N in a left-right symmetric model, and find poor sensitivity. After proposing a different trigger strategy ( considering the prompt lepton accompanying the neutrino displaced vertex) and optimized cuts in the invariant mass and track multiplicity of the vertex, we find that the LHC with root s = 13 TeV and 300 fb(-1) is able to probe sterile neutrino masses between 10 GeV < m(N) < 20 GeV ( for a right-handed gauge boson mass of 2 TeV < m(WR) < 3.5 TeV). To probe higher masses up to m(N) similar to 30 GeV and m(WR) < 5 TeV, 3000 fb(-1) will be needed. This work joins other efforts in motivating dedicated experimental searches to target this low sterile neutrino mass region.
