Abstract |
A search is presented for pair production of a new heavy quark (Q) that decays into aW boson and a light quark (q) in the final state where one W boson decays leptonically (to an electron or muon plus a neutrino) and the other W boson decays hadronically. The analysis is performed using an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1) of pp collisions at root s = 8 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. No evidence of Q (Q) over bar production is observed. New chiral quarks with masses below 690 GeVare excluded at 95% confidence level, assuming BR(Q -> Wq) = 1. Results are also interpreted in the context of vectorlike quark models, resulting in the limits on the mass of a vectorlike quark in the two-dimensional plane of BR(Q -> Wq) versus BR(Q -> Hq). |

Abstract |
With an integrated luminosity of 2.47 fb(-1) recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, the exclusive decays B-s(0) -> J/psi phi and B-d(0) -> J/psi K*(0) of B mesons produced in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV are used to determine the ratio of fragmentation fractions f(s)/f(d). From the observed B-s(0) -> J/psi phi and B-d(0) -> J/psi K*(0) yields, the quantity (f(s)/f(d))[B(B-s(0) -> J/psi phi)/B(B-d(0) -> J/psi K*(0) )] is measured to be 0.199 +/- 0.004(stat) +/- 0.008(syst). Using a recent theory prediction for [B(B-s(0) -> J/psi phi)/B(B-d(0) -> J/psi K*(0))] yields (f(s)/f(d)) = 0.240 +/- 0.004(stat) +/- 0.010(syst) +/- 0.017(th). This result is based on a new approach that provides a significant improvement of the world average. |

Abstract |
The decay B-0 -> psi(2S)K+pi(-) is analyzed using 3 fb(-1) of pp collision data collected with the LHCb detector. A model-independent description of the psi(2S)pi mass spectrum is obtained, using as input the K pi mass spectrum and angular distribution derived directly from data, without requiring a theoretical description of resonance shapes or their interference. The hypothesis that the psi(2S)pi mass spectrum can be described in terms of K pi reflections alone is rejected with more than 8 sigma significance. This provides confirmation, in a model-independent way, of the need for an additional resonant component in the mass region of the Z(4430)(-) exotic state. |

Abstract |
We study the Lambda(c) decay process to pi(+) and the meson-baryon final state for the analysis of Lambda resonances. Considering the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawamatrix, color suppression, diquark correlation, and the kinematical condition, we show that the final meson-baryon state should be in a pure I = 0 combination, when the meson-baryon invariantmass is small. Because the I = 1 contamination usually makes it difficult to analyze Lambda resonances directly from experiments, the Lambda(c) decay is an ideal process to study Lambda resonances. Calculating the final-state interaction by chiral unitary approaches, we find that the pi Sigma invariant mass distributions have the same peak structure in the all charge combination of the pi Sigma states related to the higher pole of the two poles of the Lambda(1405). Furthermore, we obtain a clear Lambda(1670) peak structure in the (K) over bar N and eta Lambda spectra. |

Abstract |
The violation of CP symmetry between matter and antimatter in the neutral K and B meson systems is well established, with a high degree of consistency between all available experimental measurements and with the Standard Model of particle physics. On the basis of the up-to-now-unbroken CPT symmetry, the violation of CP symmetry strongly suggests that the behavior of these particles under weak interactions must also be asymmetric under time reversal T. Many searches for T violation have been performed and proposed using different observables and experimental approaches. These include T-odd observables, such as triple products in weak decays, and genuine observables, such as permanent electric dipole moments of nondegenerate stationary states and the breaking of the reciprocity relation. We discuss the conceptual basis of the required exchange of initial and final states with unstable particles, using quantum entanglement and the decay as a filtering measurement, for the case of neutral B and K mesons. Using this method, the BaBar experiment at SLAC has clearly observed T violation in B mesons. |
