Abstract |
A measurement of the cross section for the production of an isolated photon in association with jets in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy root s = 7 TeV is presented. Photons are reconstructed in the pseudorapidity range vertical bar eta(gamma)vertical bar < 1.37 and with a transverse energy E-T(gamma) > 25 GeV. Jets are reconstructed in the rapidity range vertical bar y(jet)vertical bar < 4.4 and with a transverse momentum p(T)(jet) > 20 GeV. The differential cross section d sigma/dE(T)(gamma) is measured, as a function of the photon transverse energy, for three different rapidity ranges of the leading-p(T) jet: vertical bar y(jet)vertical bar < 1.2, 1.2 <= vertical bar y(jet)vertical bar < 2.8 and 2.8 <= vertical bar y(jet)vertical bar < 4.4. For each rapidity configuration the same-sign (eta(gamma)y(jet) >= 0) and opposite-sign (eta(gamma) y(jet) < 0) cases are studied separately. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 37 pb(-1), collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations are found to be in fair agreement with the data, except for E-T(gamma) <= 45 GeV, where the theoretical predictions overestimate the measured cross sections. |

Abstract |
While the baryon asymmetry of the Universe is nowadays well measured by cosmological observations, the bounds on the lepton asymmetry in the form of neutrinos are still significantly weaker. We place limits on the relic neutrino asymmetries using some of the latest cosmological data, taking into account the effect of flavor oscillations. We present our results for two different values of the neutrino mixing angle theta(13), and show that for large theta(13) the limits on the total neutrino asymmetry become more stringent, diluting even large initial flavor asymmetries. In particular, we find that the present bounds are still dominated by the limits coming from big bang nucleosynthesis, while the limits on the total neutrino mass from cosmological data are essentially independent of theta(13). Finally, we perform a forecast for Cosmic Origins Explorer, taken as an example of a future cosmic microwave background experiment, and find that it could improve the limits on the total lepton asymmetry approximately by up to a factor 6.6. |

Abstract |
A QCD analysis is reported of ATLAS data on inclusive W-+/- and Z boson production in pp collisions at the LHC, jointly with ep deep-inelastic scattering data from HERA. The ATLAS data exhibit sensitivity to the light quark sea composition and magnitude at Bjorken x similar to 0:01. Specifically, the data support the hypothesis of a symmetric composition of the light quark sea at low x. The ratio of the strange-to-down sea quark distributions is determined to be 1:00(-0:28)(+0.25) at absolute four-momentum transfer squared Q(2) = 1: 9 GeV2 and x = 0: 023. |

Abstract |
A search is presented for gluinos decaying via the supersymmetric partner of the top quark using events with two same-sign leptons, jets, and missing transverse momentum. The analysis is performed with 2: 05 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity from pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. No excess beyond the standard model expectation is observed, and exclusion limits are derived for simplified models where the gluino decays via the supersymmetric partner of the top quark and in the minimal supergravity and constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model framework. In those scenarios, gluino masses below 550 GeV are excluded at 95% C.L. within the parameter space considered, significantly extending the coverage with respect to existing limits. Depending on the model parameters, gluino masses up to 750 GeV can also be excluded at 95% C.L. |

Abstract |
In this paper we present the connection between scattering amplitudes in momentum space and wave functions in coordinate space, generalizing previous work done for s-waves to any partial wave. The relationship to the wave function of the residues of the scattering amplitudes at the pole of bound states or resonances is investigated in detail. A sum rule obtained for the couplings provides a generalization to coupled channels, any partial wave and bound or resonance states, of Weinberg's compositeness condition, which was only valid for weakly bound states in one channel and s-wave. An example, requiring only experimental data, is shown for the rho meson indicating that it is not a composite particle of pi pi and K (K) over bar but something else. |

Abstract |
Recent studies of the interaction of vector mesons with nuclei make possible and opportune the study of the interaction of the J/psi with nuclei and the investigation of the origin of the J/psi suppression in its propagation thorough a nuclear medium. We observe that the transition of J/psi N to VN with V being a light vector, rho, omega, phi, together with the inelastic channels, J/psi N -> (D) over bar Lambda(c) and J/psi N -> (D) over bar Sigma(c), leads to a particular shape of the inelastic cross section. Analogously, we consider the mechanisms where the exchanged D collides with a nucleon and gives pi Lambda(c) or pi Sigma(c). The cross section has a peak around root s = 4415 MeV, where the J/psi N couples to a resonance predicted recently. We study the transparency ratio for electron-induced J/psi production in nuclei at about 10 GeV and find that 30-35% of the J/psi produced in heavy nuclei are absorbed inside the nucleus. This ratio is in line with depletions of J/psi through matter observed in other reactions. |

Abstract |
We report a set of measurements of inclusive invariant p(T) differential cross sections of Lambda(0), (Lambda) over bar (0), Xi(+/-), and Omega(+/-) hyperons reconstructed in the central region with pseudorapidity vertical bar eta vertical bar < 1 and p(T) up to 10 GeV/c. Events are collected with a minimum-bias trigger in p<(p)over bar> collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV using the CDF II detector at the Tevatron Collider. As p(T) increases, the slopes of the differential cross sections of the three particles are similar, which could indicate a universality of the particle production in p(T). The invariant differential cross sections are also presented for different charged-particle multiplicity intervals. |

Abstract |
A search is presented for heavy-quark pair production (Q (Q) over bar) under the decay hypothesis Q (Q) over bar -> W(+)qW(-)(q) over bar with q = d, s, b for up-type Q or q = u, c for down-type Q. The search is performed with 1.04 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity from pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the CERN LHC. Dilepton final states are selected, requiring large missing transverse momentum and at least two jets. Mass reconstruction of heavy-quark candidates is performed by assuming that the W boson decay products are nearly collinear. The data are in agreement with standard model expectations; a heavy quark with mass less than 350 GeV is excluded at 95% confidence level. |

Abstract |
This Letter presents a search for pair production of heavy down-type quarks decaying via b' -> Wt in the lepton + jets channel, as b'(b) over bar' -> W(-)tW(+)(t) over bar -> b (b) over barW(+)W(-)W(+)W- -> l(+/-) nu b (b) over barq (q) over barq (q) over barq ($) over barq. In addition to requiring exactly one lepton, large missing transverse momentum, and at least six jets, the invariant mass of nearby jet pairs is used to identify high transverse momentum W bosons. In data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.04 fb(-1) from pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector, a heavy down-type quark with mass less than 480 GeV can be excluded at the 95% confidence level. |

Abstract |
We present a search for the lepton flavor violating decay modes B-+/- -> h(+/-)tau l (h = K, pi; l = e, mu) using the BABAR data sample, which corresponds to 472 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs. The search uses events where one B meson is fully reconstructed in one of several hadronic final states. Using the momenta of the reconstructed B, h, and l candidates, we are able to fully determine the tau four-momentum. The resulting tau candidate mass is our main discriminant against combinatorial background. We see no evidence for B-+/- -> h(+/-)tau l decays and set a 90% confidence level upper limit on each branching fraction at the level of a few times 10(-5). |
