Title Search for phenomena beyond the Standard Model in events with large b-jet multiplicity using the ATLAS detector at the LHC Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication (up) European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
  Volume 81 Issue 1 Pages 11 - 29pp
  Keywords
Abstract A search is presented for new phenomena in events characterised by high jet multiplicity, no leptons (electrons or muons), and four or more jets originating from the fragmentation of b-quarks (b-jets). The search uses 139fb(-1)of s root = 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider during Run 2. The dominant Standard Model background originates from multijet production and is estimated using a data-driven technique based on an extrapolation from events with low b-jet multiplicity to the high b-jet multiplicities used in the search. No significant excess over the Standard Model expectation is observed and 95% confidence-level limits that constrain simplified models of R-parity-violating supersymmetry are determined. The exclusion limits reach 950 GeV in top-squark mass in the models considered.

Title Measurements of the Higgs boson inclusive and differential fiducial cross sections in the 4l decay channel at root s=13 TeV Type Journal Article

Abstract Inclusive and differential fiducial cross sections of the Higgs boson are measured in the H -> ZZ* -> 4l (l = e, mu) decay channel. The results are based on proton-proton collision data produced at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS detector from 2015 to 2018, equivalent to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1). The inclusive fiducial cross section for the H -> ZZ* -> 4l process is measured to be sigma(fid) = 3.28 +/- 0.32 fb, in agreement with the StandardModel prediction of sigma(fid,SM) = 3.41 +/- 0.18 fb. Differential fiducial cross sections are measured for a variety of observables which are sensitive to the production and decay of the Higgs boson. Allmeasurements are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions. The results are used to constrain anomalous Higgs boson interactions with StandardModel particles.

Title Search for a scalar partner of the top quark in the all-hadronic t(t)over-bar plus missing transverse momentum final state at root s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2020 Publication (up) European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
  Volume 80 Issue 8 Pages 737 - 44pp
  Keywords
Abstract A search for direct pair production of scalar partners of the top quark (top squarks or scalar third-generation up-type leptoquarks) in the all-hadronic t (t) over bar plus missing transverse momentum final state is presented. The analysis of 139 fb(-1) of root s = 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected using the ATLAS detector at the LHC yields no significant excess over the Standard Model background expectation. To interpret the results, a supersymmetric model is used where the top squark decays via (t) over tilde -> t(*) (chi) over tilde (0)(1), with t(*) denoting an on-shell (off-shell) top quark and (chi) over tilde (0)(1) the lightest neutralino. Three specific event selections are optimised for the following scenarios. In the scenario where m((t) over tilde) > m(t) + m((chi) over tilde 10), top squark masses are excluded in the range 400-1250 GeV for (chi) over tilde (0)(1) masses below 200 GeV at 95% confidence level. In the situation where m((t) over tilde) similar to m(t) + m((chi) over tilde 10), top squarkmasses in the range 300-630 GeV are excluded, while in the case where m((t) over tilde) < m(W) + m(b) + m(<(chi)over tilde>10) (with m((t) over tilde) – m((chi) over tilde 10) >= 5 GeV), considered for the first time in an ATLAS all-hadronic search, top squark masses in the range 300-660 GeV are excluded. Limits are also set for scalar third-generation up-type leptoquarks, excluding leptoquarks with masses below 1240 GeV when considering only leptoquark decays into a top quark and a neutrino.

Title Measurements of WH and ZH production in the H -> b bbar decay channel in pp collisions at 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication (up) European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
  Volume 81 Issue 2 Pages 178 - 41pp

Abstract Measurements of the Standard Model Higgs boson decaying into a b bbar pair and produced in association with a W or Z boson decaying into leptons, using proton-proton collision data collected between 2015 and 2018 by the ATLAS detector, are presented. The measurements use collisions produced by the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb-1. The production of a Higgs boson in association with a W or Z boson is established with observed (expected) significances of 4.0 (4.1) and 5.3 (5.1) standard deviations, respectively. Cross-sections of associated production of a Higgs boson decaying into bottom quark pairs with an electroweak gauge boson, W or Z, decaying into leptons are measured as a function of the gauge boson transverse momentum in kinematic fiducial volumes. The cross-section measurements are all consistent with the Standard Model expectations, and the total uncertainties vary from 30% in the high gauge boson transverse momentum regions to 85% in the low regions. Limits are subsequently set on the parameters of an effective Lagrangian sensitive to modifications of the WH and ZH processes as well as the Higgs boson decay into b bbar.

Title Differential cross-section measurements for the electroweak production of dijets in association with a Z boson in proton-proton collisions at ATLAS Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication (up) European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
  Volume 81 Issue 2 Pages 163 - 42pp

Abstract Differential cross-sectionmeasurements are presented for the electroweak production of two jets in association with a Z boson. These measurements are sensitive to the vector-boson fusion production mechanism and provide a fundamental test of the gauge structure of the Standard Model. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by ATLAS at root s = 13 TeV and with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1). The differential cross-sections are measured in the Z -> l(+)l(-) decay channel (l = e, mu) as a function of four observables: the dijet invariant mass, the rapidity interval spanned by the two jets, the signed azimuthal angle between the two jets, and the transverse momentum of the dilepton pair. The data are corrected for the effects of detector inefficiency and resolution and are sufficiently precise to distinguish between different state-of-the-art theoretical predictions calculated using Powheg+Pythia8, Herwig7+Vbfnlo and Sherpa 2.2. The differential cross-sections are used to search for anomalous weak-boson self-interactions using a dimension-six effective field theory. Themeasurement of the signed azimuthal angle between the two jets is found to be particularly sensitive to the interference between the Standard-Model and dimension-six scattering amplitudes and provides a direct test of charge-conjugation and parity invariance in the weak-boson self-interactions.
