Title Study of the soft dipole modes in Ce-140 via inelastic scattering of O-17 Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication (up) Physica Scripta Abbreviated Journal Phys. Scr.
Volume 89 Issue 5 Pages 054016 - 6pp
Keywords pygmy dipole resonances; inelastic scattering; AGATA detector; gamma spectroscopy
Abstract The main aim of this study was a deeper understanding of the nuclear structure properties of the soft dipole modes in Ce-140, excited via inelastic scattering of weakly bound O-17 projectiles. An important aim was to investigate the 'splitting' of the PDR into two parts: a low-energy isoscalar component dominated by neutron-skin oscillations and a higher-energy component lying on the tail of the giant dipole resonance of a rather isovector character. This was already observed for this nucleus, investigated in (alpha, alpha') and (gamma, gamma') experiments. The experiment was performed at Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro, Italy. Inelastic scattering of O-17 ion beam at 20 MeV A(-1) was used to excite the resonance modes in the Ce-140 target. Gamma-rays were registered by five triple clusters of AGATA-Demonstrator and nine large volume scintillators (LaBr3). The scattered O-17 ions were identified by two Delta E – E Si telescopes of the TRACE array mounted inside the scattering chamber. The telescopes consisted of two segmented Si-pad detectors, each of 60 pixels. Very preliminary data have shown a strong domination of the E1 transitions in the 'pygmy' region with a character more similar to the one obtained in alpha scattering experiment.

Title V P gamma radiative decay of resonances dynamically generated from the vector meson-vector meson interaction Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication (up) Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
Volume 690 Issue 4 Pages 376-381
Keywords Local hidden gauge; Radiative decays; Vector mesons; Dynamically generated resonances
Abstract We evaluate the radiative decay into a vector, a pseudoscalar and a photon of several resonances dynamically generated from the vector-vector interaction. The process proceeds via the decay of one of the vector components into a pseudoscalar and a photon, which have an invariant mass distribution very different from phase space as a consequence of the two vector structure of the resonances. Experimental work along these lines should provide useful information on the nature of these resonances.

Title Search for high-mass states with one lepton plus missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions sqrt(s)=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2011 Publication (up) Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
Volume 701 Issue 1 Pages 50-69
Keywords Exotics; Electroweak interaction; Particle and resonance production
Abstract The ATLAS detector is used to search for high-mass states, such as heavy charged gauge bosons (W'. W*), decaying to a charged lepton (electron or muon) and a neutrino. Results are presented based on the analysis of pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb(-1). No excess beyond standard model expectations is observed. A W' with sequential standard model couplings is excluded at 95% confidence level for masses below 1.49 TeV, and a W* (charged chiral boson) for masses below 1.35 TeV.

Title Search for high mass dilepton resonances in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS experiment Type Journal Article
Year 2011 Publication (up) Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
Volume 700 Issue 3-4 Pages 163-180
Keywords Grand unified theory; Narrow resonance; New gauge boson; Z '; Dilepton; Mass spectrum
Abstract This Letter presents a search for high mass e(+)e(-) or mu(+)mu(-) resonances in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV at the LHC. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment during 2010 and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of similar to 40 pb(-1). No statistically significant excess above the Standard Model expectation is observed in the search region of dilepton invariant mass above 110 GeV. Upper limits at the 95% confidence level are set on the cross section times branching ratio of Z' resonances decaying to dielectrons and dimuons as a function of the resonance mass. A lower mass limit of 1.048 TeV on the Sequential Standard Model Z' boson is derived, as well as mass limits on Z* and E(6)-motivated Z' models.

Title A search for high-mass resonances decaying to tau(+)tau(-) in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication (up) Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
Volume 719 Issue 4-5 Pages 242-260
Keywords Exotics; Z '; Ditau; Resonance; Search
Abstract This Letter presents a search for high-mass resonances decaying into tau(+)tau(-) final states using proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV produced by the Large Hadron Collider. The data were recorded with the ATLAS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb(-1). No statistically significant excess above the Standard Model expectation is observed; 95% credibility upper limits are set on the cross section times branching fraction of Z' resonances decaying into tau(+)tau(-) pairs as a function of the resonance mass. As a result, Z' bosons of the Sequential Standard Model with masses less than 1.40 TeV are excluded at 95% credibility.

Title Study of the quasi-free np -> np pi(+)pi(-) reaction with a deuterium beam at 1.25 GeV/nucleon Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication (up) Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
Volume 750 Issue Pages 184-193
Keywords Two-pion production; np collisions; Resonance excitations
Abstract The tagged quasi-free np -> np pi(+)pi(-) reaction has been studied experimentally with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at GSI at a deuteron incident beam energy of 1.25 GeV/nucleon (root S similar to 2.42 GeV/c for the quasi-free collision). For the first time, differential distributions of solid statistics for pi(+)pi(-) production in np collisions have been collected in the region corresponding to the large transverse momenta of the secondary particles. The invariant mass and angular distributions for the np -> np pi(+)pi(-) reaction are compared with different models. This comparison confirms the dominance of the t-channel with Delta Delta contribution. It also validates the changes previously introduced in the Valencia model to describe two-pion production data in other isospin channels, although some deviations are observed, especially for the pi(+)pi(-) invariant mass spectrum. The extracted total cross section is also in much better agreement with this model. Our new measurement puts useful constraints for the existence of the conjectured dibaryon resonance at mass M similar to 2.38 GeV and with width Gamma similar to 70 MeV. (C) 2015 The Authors. Title Predictions for eta(c) -> eta pi(+)pi(-) producing f(0)(500), f(0)(980) and a(0)(980) Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication (up) Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
Volume 766 Issue Pages 59-64
Keywords Charmonium decays; Scalar meson states; Dynamically generated resonances
Abstract We perform calculations for the eta(c) -> eta pi(+)pi(-) decay using elements of SU(3) symmetry to see the weight of different trios of pseudoscalars produced in this decay, prior to the final state interaction of the mesons. After that, the interaction of pairs of mesons, leading finally to eta pi(+)pi(-), is done using the chiral unitary approach. We evaluate the pi(+)pi(-) and pi eta mass distributions and find large and clear signals for f(0)(500), f(0)(980) and a(0)(980) excitation. The reaction is similar to the chi(c1) -> eta pi(+)pi(-), which has been recently measured at BESIII and its implementation and comparison with these predictions will be very valuable to shed light on the nature of the low mass scalar mesons.

Title Two, three, many body systems involving mesons Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication (up) Progress in Particle and Nuclear Physics Abbreviated Journal Prog. Part. Nucl. Phys.
Volume 67 Issue 2 Pages 455-460
Keywords Meson many body; Chiral dynamics; Dynamically generated resonances
Abstract In this talk we show recent developments on few body systems involving mesons. We report on an approach to Faddeev equations using chiral unitary dynamics, where an explicit cancellation of the two body off shell amplitude with three body forces stemming from the same chiral Lagrangians takes place. This removal of the unphysical off shell part of the amplitudes is most welcome and renders the approach unambiguous, showing that only on shell two body amplitudes need to be used. Within this approach, systems of two mesons and one baryon are studied, reproducing properties of the low lying 1/2(+) states. On the other hand we also report on multirho and K* multirho states which can be associated to known meson resonances of high spin.

Abstract The last two decades have witnessed the discovery of a myriad of new and unexpected hadrons. The future holds more surprises for us, thanks to new-generation experiments. Understanding the signals and determining the properties of the states requires a parallel theoretical effort. To make full use of available and forthcoming data, a careful amplitude modeling is required, together with a sound treatment of the statistical uncertainties, and a systematic survey of the model dependencies. We review the contributions made by the Joint Physics Analysis Center to the field of hadron spectroscopy.

Abstract Using proton-proton collision data at centre-of-mass energies of root s = 7, 8 and 13 TeV recorded by the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1), the invariant mass spectrum of J/psi pairs is studied. A narrow structure around 6.9 GeV/c(2) matching the line-shape of a resonance and a broad structure just above twice the J/psi mass are observed. The deviation of the data from nonresonant J/psi-pair production is above five standard deviations in the mass region between 6.2 and 7.4 GeV/c(2), covering predicted masses of states composed of four charm quarks. The mass and natural width of the narrow X(6900) structure are measured assuming a Breit-Wigner lineshape.
