Title Measurement of lifetimes in Fe-62,Fe-64, Co-61,Co-63, and Mn-59 Type Journal Article

Abstract Lifetimes of the 4(1)(+) states in Fe-62,Fe-64 and the 11/2(1)(-) states in Co-61,Co-63 and Mn-59 were measured at the Grand Accelerateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL) facility by using the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) and the large-acceptance variable mode spectrometer (VAMOS++). The states were populated through multinucleon transfer reactions with a U-238 beam impinging on a Ni-64 target, and lifetimes in the picosecond range were measured by using the recoil distance Doppler shift method. The data show an increase of collectivity in the iron isotopes approaching N = 40. The reduction of the subshell gap between the nu 2p(1/2) and nu 1g(9/2) orbitals leads to an increased population of the quasi-SU(3) pair (nu 1g(9/2), nu 2d(5/2)), which causes an increase in quadrupole collectivity. This is not observed for the cobalt isotopes withN < 40 for which the neutron subshell gap is larger due to the repulsive monopole component of the tensor nucleon-nucleon interaction. The extracted experimental B(E2) values are compared with large-scale shell-model calculations and with beyond-mean-field calculations with the Gogny D1S interaction. A good agreement between calculations and experimental values is found, and the results demonstrate in particular the spectroscopic quality of the Lenzi, Nowacki, Poves, and Sieja (LNPS) shell-model interaction.

Abstract Two-neutrino double electron capture is a rare nuclear decay where two electrons are simultaneously captured from the atomic shell. For Xe-124 this process has not yet been observed and its detection would provide a new reference for nuclear matrix element calculations. We have conducted a search for two-neutrino double electron capture from the K shell of 124Xe using 7636 kg d of data from the XENON100 dark matter detector. Using a Bayesian analysis we observed no significant excess above background, leading to a lower 90% credibility limit on the half-life T-1/2 > 6.5 x 10(20) yr. We have also evaluated the sensitivity of the XENON1T experiment, which is currently being commissioned, and found a sensitivity of T-1/2 > 6.1 x 10(22) yr after an exposure of 2 t yr.

Abstract The exclusive charmonium production process in (P) over barp annihilation with an associated pi 0 meson (p) over barp -> J/psi pi(0) is studied in the framework of QCD collinear factorization. The feasibility of measuring this reaction through the J/psi -> e(+) e(-) decay channel with the AntiProton ANnihilation at DArmstadt ((P) over bar ANDA) experiment is investigated. Simulations on signal reconstruction efficiency as well as the background rejection from various sources including the (P) over barp -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) and (p) over barp -> J/psi pi(0)pi(0) reactions are performed with PANDAROOT, the simulation and analysis software framework of the (P) over bar ANDA experiment. It is shown that the measurement can be done at (P) over bar ANDA with significant constraining power under the assumption of an integrated luminosity attainable in four to five months of data taking at the maximum design luminosity.

Title Threshold effects in P-wave bottom-strange mesons Type Journal Article

Abstract Using a nonrelativistic constituent quark model in which the degrees of freedom are quarkantiquark and meson- meson components, we have recently shown that the Dd((*))K thresholds play an important role in lowering the mass of the c (S) over bar states associated with the physical D-s0(*)(2317) and D-s1(2460) mesons. This observation is also supported by other theoretical approaches such as latticeregularized QCD or chiral unitary theory in coupled channels. Herein, we extend our computation to the lowest P- wave Bs mesons, taking into account the corresponding J(P) = 0(+), 1(-) and 2(+) bottomstrange states predicted by the naive quark model and the BK and B* K thresholds. We assume that mixing with B-s((*))eta and isospin-violating decays to B-s((*))pi are negligible. This computation is important because there is no experimental data in the b (S) over bar sector for the equivalent j(q)(p) = 1/2(+) (D-s0(*)(2317), D-s1 (2460)) heavy-quark multiplet and, as it has been seen in the c (s) over bar sector, the naive theoretical result can be wrong by more than 100 MeV. Our calculation allows us to introduce the coupling with the D-wave B*K channel and to compute the probabilities associated with the different Fock components of the physical state.

Abstract MoEDAL is designed to identify new physics in the form of long-lived highly ionizing particles produced in high-energy LHC collisions. Its arrays of plastic nuclear-track detectors and aluminium trapping volumes provide two independent passive detection techniques. We present here the results of a first search for magnetic monopole production in 13 TeV proton-proton collisions using the trapping technique, extending a previous publication with 8 TeV data during LHC Run 1. A total of 222 kg of MoEDAL trapping detector samples was exposed in the forward region and analyzed by searching for induced persistent currents after passage through a superconducting magnetometer. Magnetic charges exceeding half the Dirac charge are excluded in all samples and limits are placed for the first time on the production of magnetic monopoles in 13 TeV pp collisions. The search probes mass ranges previously inaccessible to collider experiments for up to five times the Dirac charge.

Title Magnetic catalysis and inverse magnetic catalysis in nonlocal chiral quark models Type Journal Article

Abstract We study the behavior of strongly interacting matter under an external constant magnetic field in the context of nonlocal chiral quark models within the mean field approximation. We find that at zero temperature the behavior of the quark condensates shows the expected magnetic catalysis effect, our predictions being in good quantitative agreement with lattice QCD results. On the other hand, in contrast to what happens in the standard local Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model, when the analysis is extended to the case of finite temperature, our results show that nonlocal models naturally lead to the inverse magnetic catalysis effect.

Title On the structure observed in the in-flight He-3(K-, Lambda p)n reaction at J-PARC Type Journal Article

Abstract A theoretical investigation is done to clarify the origin of the peak structure observed near the K-pp threshold in the in-flight He-3(K-, Lambda p)n reaction of the J-PARC E15 experiment, which could be a signal of the lightest kaonic nuclei, i.e., the (K) over bar NN (I = 1/2) state. For the investigation, we evaluate the Lambda p invariant mass spectrum assuming two possible scenarios to interpret the experimental peak. One assumes that the Lambda (1405) resonance is generated after the emission of an energetic neutron from the absorption of the initial K-, not forming a bound state with the remaining proton. This uncorrelated Lambda (1405)p system subsequently decays into the final Lambda p. The other scenario implies that, after the emission of the energetic neutron, a (K) over bar NN bound state is formed, decaying eventually into a Lambda p pair. Our results show that the experimental signal observed in the in-flight He-3(K-, Lambda p)n reaction at J-PARC is qualitatively well reproduced by the assumption that a (K) over bar NN bound state is generated in the reaction, definitely discarding the interpretation in terms of an uncorrelated Lambda (1405)p s tate.

Title Isomers and high-spin structures in the N=81 isotones Xe-135 and Ba-137 Type Journal Article

Abstract The high-spin structures and isomers of the N = 81 isotones Xe-135 and Ba-137 are investigated after multinucleon-transfer (MNT) and fusion-evaporation reactions. Both nuclei are populated (i) in Xe-136+ U-238 and (ii) Xe-136+ Pb-208 MNT reactions employing the high-resolution Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) coupled to the magnetic spectrometer PRISMA, (iii) in the Xe-136+ Pt-198 MNT reaction employing the gamma-ray array GAMMASPHERE in combination with the gas-detector array CHICO, and (iv) via a B-11+ Te-130 fusion-evaporation reaction with the HORUS gamma-ray array at the University of Cologne. The high-spin level schemes of Xe-135 and Ba-137 are considerably extended to higher energies. The 2058-keV (19/2(-)) state in Xe-135 is identified as an isomer, closing a gap in the systematics along the N = 81 isotones. Its half-life is measured to be 9.0(9) ns, corresponding to a reduced transition probability of B(E2,19/2(-) -> 15/2(-)) = 0.52(6) W.u. The experimentally deduced reduced transition probabilities of the isomeric states are compared to shell-model predictions. Latest shell-model calculations reproduce the experimental findings generally well and provide guidance to the interpretation of the new levels.

Abstract The reaction gamma N -> eta N is studied in the high-energy regime (with photon lab energies E gamma(lab) > 4 GeV) using information from the resonance region through the use of finite-energy sum rules. We illustrate how analyticity allows one to map the t dependence of the unknown Regge residue functions. We provide predictions for the energy dependence of the beam asymmetry at high energies.

Abstract We have studied the production and decay of the f(1) (1285) into pi a(0)(980) and K* (K) over bar as a function of the mass of the resonance and find a shoulder around 1400 MeV, tied to a triangle singularity, for the pi a(0)(980) mode, and a peak around 1420 MeV with about 60 MeV width for the K* (K) over bar mode. Both of these features agree with the experimental information on which the f(1)(1420) resonance is based. In addition, we find that if the f(1)(1420) is a genuine resonance, coupling mostly to K* (K) over bar as seen experimentally, one finds unavoidably about a 20% fraction for pi a(0)(980) decay of this resonance, in drastic contradiction with all experiments. Altogether, we conclude that the f(1)(1420) is not a genuine resonance, but the manifestation of the pi a(0)(980) and K* (K) over bar decay modes of the f(1)(1285) at higher energies than the nominal one.
